As a practicing Catholic I'm not thrilled about the IVF EO. Wish it was to make the adoption process more streamlined and affordable for married couples that wish to have a family.
But this was expected from Trump where he is more liberal on this topic.
Outside of hardcore Catholics and some other highly devout sects, I am not sure many people see supporting IVF is a liberal position.
I mean as a personal choice it is still perfectly acceptable to choose adoption over IVF if your religious beliefs are such that IVF is ungodly.
I just don't understand trying to outlaw IVF in the name of Catholicism.
I didn't say it had to be outlawed. I don't think it is something the federal government should be concerned about. I think it is a moral issue that each person has to consider. I dont think people have a right to conceive a child but rather it is a gift from God and part of His plan.
I don't want to derail this thread getting into a religious morality discussion. My views are this and I will leave it at that.
1) God intended for life to be created naturally from the love and man and woman. IVF skips that step
2) IFV is not just an option for married heterosexual couples but for single women, same-sex copules, surrogates, and can be used for research purposes. This is not how God intended for life to be created.
3) IVF usually involves transplanting multiple embryos which can all become viable. If the patient or doctor don't want multiple they can be selectively reduced (aborted).
4) many embryos are created at one time and then frozen. Many of which will never be used and at some point discarded or used for other purposes. If you believe life begins at conception (when the egg is fertilized) then you have human life that has been set aside with no respect for their rights.
