It's just pure evil at this point to require this of anyone with everything we now know.
For those that say the organ should go to the child because she needs it and essentially nothing else matters, should she get it if her parents on religious grounds (or for any other reason) also refuse to allow her to be given anti rejection meds?
I wouid say she should not get a transplant in that situation.
Now a question for you. Would it be okay to deny the girl if the hospital said the girl must also take the HPV vaccine and any and all other vaccines on the market before getting a transplant, but the parents didn't want to give all those?

Yes, it's okay. It's their ****ing facility and staff. Don't like it, go elsewhere.
If it's a public facility, then they should only be requiring what's medically necessary to reduce chances of rejection and survival in a weakened immune state.
First, virtually all transplant centers I have looked at have ended the COVID vaccine requirement and I don't know of any that require short acting vaccines like the flu although all strongly recommend a number of vaccines pre and post transplant due to the substantially weakened immune system post transplant. For example, the shingles vaccine is one usually recommended pre transplant because you develop better antibodies then and the risk of shingles is greatly increased.BMX Bandit said:

That said, I think each facility should have the ability to set their own standards and requirements as they are risking reputations and liability with what is a high risk procedure and also due to the insufficient supply of organs. For instance, giving organs to those that are most likely to comply with post surgery instructions and requirements like anti rejection meds, not eating certain foods that react with the meds like grapefruit and pomegranates, etc. if they view certain vaccines as necessary, I am ok with it because people can register with a different hospital if they don't like the requirements.

There are a lot bigger controversies in the transplant world than the one being discussed in this topic such as should organs be distributed on a national basis to those deemed in most need by UNOS or should they stay in regions. There is a major discrepancy in people registering as donors on their IDs with Texas and California at the bottom and Colorado, Michigan and Arkansas on top.BMX Bandit said:

The really sad thing is there shouldn't be a shortage of kidney donors because millions and millions of people could donate their spare kidney yet this is the leading organ in shortage that leads to the most deaths while people are on the transplant waiting list.

Like I said, I'm talking about 5 doctors across 3 cities. It's almost like they are all just reading a script. Most endos will tell you that you can eat what you want since you are on an insulin pump. Just use more insulin. Without giving any regard to the dangers of insulin resistance and high insulin use bring.

Yes, COVID vaccines are entirely unnecessary for young children. Even in children with transplants the evidence for benefit is scant at best.

That's the full story. I'm a type 1 diabetic, my A1C was 6.3 and I told my endo that I had been intermittent fasting. She was concerned about ketoacidosis. What a joke. I'm not sure what you're hinting at with your comment, but none of my endos have pushed a low/no carb diet. I had to learn it from YouTube.

It's just not particularly believable that an endocrinologist told a type 1 diabetic that a low carb diet was bad for them or wouldn't help them. That's like me telling a patient with streptoccocal pneumonia that antibiotics won't help them.

It wasn't the low carb that she was concerned about, it was the fasting. Nonetheless, only one of my endos ever mentioned "controlling carbs" and she mentioned to keep it around 100 carbs/day. Which is 100 more than you need and 70-80 more than what is best for a diabetic. Not to mention, NONE ever discussed the downsides to insulin.
I don't know what to say other than sorry you've had such bad luck then. I'm years out from general internal medicine and that is common knowledge for me.
Now I will say intermittent fasting can potentially be dangerous for type 1 diabetics if they don't know what they're doing. You have to have firmly established whether or not you have any basal endogenous insulin production anymore and if so, how much. You have to also really understand how the type of insulin you take works. But a good reliable patient should be able to do it without much issue.
