I got Flu A after being in Ft. Worth for a week for the steer show. It was pretty brutal 104 plus fever, insane body aches, cough, sore throat, Nausea, respiratory issues from a secondary bacterial infection. I was messed up for over a week. Still feeling it a little bit. I didn't get the flu vaccine. Haven't had the flu shot in years and had been lucky not getting flu.

Got so bad had to go to the minor emergency clinic. Got put on IV's, Toradol shot, Xofluza flu medication, Zofran, albuterol for breathing, and Doxycycline for the respiratory infection.

Xofluza is pretty incredible, too bad insurance won't cover it

Yea I could tell it started working fast after taking it. I have pretty good insurance PPO and it was going to be $100. I ended up using the savings card off the Xofluza website and it knocked it down to $50.

got it when I was in Manhattan 1 Jan-4 January

only took three days off of work but symptoms lasted for more than 3 weeks!!

Have you been in a coma? It's been all over the news and social media for months. Running amuck in central TX.

Flu turned into pneumonia which I'm currently battling. Doesn't help that I haven't taken care of myself so I'm having a hard time recovering. Guess I should complain until the world shuts down. Who cares, it's a sickness…comes and goes.

Got it 12/23 and was laid up in bed until 12/26. Pretty miserable 4 days. Got up to watch the kids open presents and went straight back to bed for two more days. High fever, body aches, throwing up , chills. Horrible cough for a couple weeks after.

I'm 36 and as far as I know that's the first time I've ever had the flu. Probably won't get a vaccine unless I get it again. Kids got it a couple weeks later and immediately took them to their doc and they were only really sick for 24 hours since we caught it so early.

I have had one flu shot when I was 66, if I remember correctly, and like you I have never had the flu. I am 76 now but succumbed to the recommendation of my Family Care Physician when I retired.
Maybe playing the dirt in the Florida swamps around Tyndall Air Force Base, the forests in Alaska until I was 10 years old made me immune.
I have had a veritable plethora of other vaccines given by Airmen 2nd class in military hospitals though.
Among the latter, under pretence of governing they have divided their nations into two classes, wolves and sheep.”

Damn, that sounds pretty bad. I am not too much up on medicines and drugs, I have seldom taken anything, not even aspirin but a half dozen times (have taken antibiotics though). Seeing you mention Toradol reminded me when I did take Toradol when I had a suspected kidney stone. Pretty amazing stuff. Left the ER with prescriptions for 20 Toradol tablets and 90 Vicodin, forget the strength, but still have all of them! Several times I thought about the feeling I had when I took the Toradol but read the side effects so didn't try to recreate that feeling.

What newspapers do you read? What tv news? I see flu talked about multiple times daily. Everyone in my work, church, and social circles have been sick lately. My niece and nephew's school in the Dallas suburbs had over 30 teachers out sick Friday before last.

I had Covid 3 times from Dec 2020 to oct 2021. They tested me for Antibodies after the first, which I tested positive for. So I saw no need to take any of the Fauci poison. However the antibodies didn't keep me from getting it again. So that didn't work as some said it would. Yes I believe it took a long time to fully recover from the first and worst time I had it.

Fortunately the last two bouts of it weren't that bad. And the last time I had it they wouldn't even test for it. I guess there wasn't any money in it at that time. Plus they never prescribed any oral medication to take after I got it either. It was all about whether you got the government shot or not.

Fortunately I never did take any of the prescribed covid vaccines. Since then I havent taken any flu shot, nor the old folks pneumonia shot, either. Knock on wood, I Haven't even had a cold since.

Yet I've been shocked by the number of once healthy people that have been either debilitated or died from a stroke or heart attack in the last four years. It's almost unnerving. I no longer trust anything the doctors or the federal government prescribe vaccine wise. I'll get a 2nd or 3rd opinion from the doctors, if necessary. And I certainly don't trust anything Big Pharma advertises on TV. So please RFKjr get the off the air. They are worse and more detrimental to your well being than the cigarette ads in the 60's & 70's.

I've chosen to make my own health decisions from here on in, and will not be herded into a government cattle chute and given a jab prescribed by an imp like Fauci. In fact the Trump admin missed a golden opportunity to send Fauci to Russia in trade for the Russian prisoner. That one move could have gone a long way to ending the Ukraine war.

It has peaked already in central Texas but it was booming for a few weeks. Seeing 30ish patients a day is great for productivity but I'm glad to be back down to low 20s this week.

Flu vax is basically a coin flip in efficacy. I only recommend it for high risk kids. I get it because I'm guaranteed to be exposed daily for weeks and don't want to miss work if I can help it. From my point of view this year's vaccine actually seems very effective.
I've gotten the flu shot every year since 1986 cause I had a BAD case that year - like "laying in bed wishing I'd die" bad.

This year, I had the fly for the first time since then even though I'd had a flu shot. According to ER nurses I know, they said this year's shot wasn't as effective as previous years. But that's. of course, anecdotal.

It's a bad flu season

People are dying from flu like they always do

But we aren't panicking because we accept that there is nothing we can realistically do to stop it, particularly when it's a strain that deviated from the annual flu vaccine

Because we accept reality, there's no political gain to be made from pretending this is unusual and we need to shut down society to hide from it
Exactly…..our children are all grown now, but prior to COVID….their schools would shut down from time to time during a bad flu season. And, flu deaths would greatly multiply at nursing homes.

I have dozens of experiences in my life for both flu and the Vid…

Experiences where I know for a fact, that the person/people I had been around less than 24 hours before all got sick with one of the viruses…this includes people I shared a roof with and subsequently cared for face-to-face when they were down…

I've never come down with either…

And that's known exposures…no way of knowing how many times I've been exposed unknowingly…

Still…nada…

Literally the only time I have ever been "I feel like I'm on my deathbed" was when I had spinal meningitis as an elementary school kid…

Well, I don't live in Central Texas and I don't watch the alphabet news. I suppose the other news sites have focused on governmental and worldwide events.

Point was that yesterday was the first time they posted a ticker on the news scroll. Remember when we had 'no flu' and literally everything was Covid? It just caught my attention for the first time.

Still would like explanation of how during peak covid there was virtually no flu. 700 deaths compared to tens of thousands the previous couple of years. Explained that it must be "hand washing and social distancing" but was a lot of flu deaths chalked up to Covid instead? Seems like it.

The COVID measures had some impact on reduction, as flu is less contagious/transmissible than COVID and doesn't have an airborne component so the same measures have greater impact on inhibiting its spread. But viral interference was the biggest factor in the bottoming out of flu cases at the height of the pandemic.

In the most basic explanation I can give, COVID outcompeted the flu for hosts and then primed cells/immune systems had a greater ability to inhibit the viral replication of other viruses. We saw the same phenomenon with COVID vs most other respiratory viruses, and in bad flu seasons we see the same thing with flu decreasing the rate of many other viral illnesses. For instance, the worst rhinovirus years usually coincide with the mildest flu years.

Saw it on Fox News yesterday morning - but there was no story, just the scroll.

But it's like the pre-Covid world where the flu was almost taken for granted and the numbers were what the numbers were. Considering the numbers reported, I would've expected more coverage.

No flu here but I did test hot for Covid last weekend. It was very different than previous Covid. Allergy symptoms, general fatigue, extreme night sweats, no fever. Wore off in like 4 days. Gone as quick as it came and no lingering effects.

The flu vaccine only protects against 3 or so of the most common strains, right? Well after the first few weeks of flu season, shouldn't we know if we guessed right on the strains? Yet I've never heard of any doctor saying "well we guessed wrong on the strains so no point in getting the flu shot this year."

Seems like that's pretty basic and would go along way in gaining some trust on vaxes.

It's my belief that there is a segment of the population out there that is simply immune to these viruses…or at a very minimum, they are immune to the symptoms and thus never get sick from them, and never get diagnosed…

It blows my mind that more studies haven't been done to understand why certain folks are seemingly immune to flu and the Vid…
