You may not agree with his view, but that doesn't make following the law wrong. Write better laws.
100% agree. This was a very poorly written law.GenericAggie said:Legal Custodian said:

He relaying information of how the General Counsel is advising to apply the anti-DEI law the house passed. He said that student groups are still allowed (presumably under freedom of speech, my words not his, and even though I am against DEI I would agree here) and that the law states that research can still be conducted that would have been regarded as DEI. That's literally all that video is.

This is how CEOs hide from reality. They say, our GC said….. they abdicate their ownership of a topic.
It's why our USSC has been in the middle of so many ridiculous lawsuits. Congress has abdicated their jobs. Same same.
Wasn't great but not terrible until the last sentence.ProgN said:Watch the video in the first X post when you take a break from chasing ambulances.GeorgiAg said:

"I am not pleasantly surprised by anything in this bill"
Paraphrasing...but it's pretty close...As long as you don't have DEI in the title, you can recruit exactly how you want

I am actually OK for Universities to keep this stuff in libraries.ProgN said:

I am anti DEI. But having books in the library doesn't mean you support everything written there. I'm sure there is a copy of Mein Kampf there.
I support the law - nondiscrimination is one thing, DEI is bad bull.

Same. Wasn't great, it's very clear that Welsh is a DEI proponent and that nothing has changed. That is depressing and pathetic.GeorgiAg said:Wasn't great but not terrible until the last sentence.ProgN said:Watch the video in the first X post when you take a break from chasing ambulances.GeorgiAg said:

Agreed. Sully's KKK robe is in Cushings library and I'm fine with preserving history. You can't pick and choose what happened in history.

Doesn't "targeted recruiting" = DEI in a nutshell? He was saying you can still do that.
Seems like they've been right about everything, including the Phelanites being liberals.Charpie said:

Targeted recruiting is trying to appeal to a certain subset of people. It could be used to indicate targeting with DEI but it targeting people that live in or are from a certain area, attended a certain University or type of program, are part of an industry trade group, have certain certifications, etc. are all examples of it. It's a very broad term.
There isn't anything significant in this accusation...it's just Harrison stirring **** up like he likes to do.

Which the law has a specific carveout for recruiting. Which we just went through back in January after someone tried to get Welsh in another gotcha. This is an incredibly poorly written law with so many DEI carveouts that it's hard to even portray what the spirit of the law actually was. How do they literally write in the law that recruiting is not subject to this ban and then get pissed at someone following through with that.
Do I like that he didn't put a stop to that stuff earlier? No. But this is such a poorly constructed law, that we all need to get pissed at the state legislature. I'm not saying you're not so I hope you don't take my post as criticizing you.
This is literally the first video after Counsel was able to give initial guidance and Welsh is conveying that guidance on how to not break the law. So this is what, 2ish years old as guidance has to be given before the law is implemented which makes this sometime in 2023. Which puts this in the first 3 months of Welsh taking the job and in the transitionary (is that a word) period. And that's just him as an interim, he didn't officially get the job or was considered a shoe-in until very late 2023 if memory serves.
So an interim president with no promise of permanency and is just treading water until the hiring process is started and finished is telling his people how not to break the law.

Never seen one if these meetings but looks exactly how I expected it to and am sure it's been like this for 15+ years. Welsh needs to go, he's obviously not on board with where the governor and voters want him to go. Haven't and won't give any money to the university at large until this is fixed, we need a Trump 47 at A&M asap (45 wasn't bloodthirsty enough). ETA Sharp needs to go too. Way too long pulling the levers for that guy.
