If trump can mediate an end in which the war ceases and Russia gets a little land to save the rest of Ukrainian men and women from being killed, Zelenskyy and the world ought to see that as a win at this point.

Ukraine isn't going to win the war, I don't care how much money we send them. Putin is crazy and won't quit so anything remotely reasonable should be offered to end it.

If Zelenskyy thinks, Ukraine can somehow win without nato putting boots on the ground, he's as crazy as Putin.
Yup. And if we really , truly gave a **** about Ukraine, we'd put boots on the ground. Ukraine let themselves be played. Electing Zelensky and trying to join Nato was, in hindsight, a devastating decision.

There is no good side in this war. Putin is a thug everyone knows that. For anyone to think Zelensky is a warrior for democracy has not done any research beyond watching CNN or MSNBC. He has used the war to call for martial law and suspend any civil liberties, he has jailed his political opposition, and he has become rich off skimming foreign aid. If anyone claims to be interested in democracy the only logical answer for you is to want the US to end aid to Ukraine and force both countries to end the war with a deal neither will like.

None of that is why Russia invaded. They simply wanted Ukraine to be a part of Russia.

I still expect you overestimate Ukrainian support for the current situation. 2 years without a material change in battle lines. Just more dead and maimed sons. What's best for Ukraine: an unending meat grinder or officially losing land that's already been captured?
And yet they are still fighting hard while being grossly outgunned and outmanned at nearly every minute of this war. They have destroyed the very army that was built to dominate Europe and kept our parents awake at night and they did it while everyone expected them to lose in mere days. They did it while taking gruesome losses themselves to boot and still fight for their land and families that die every night in Russian strikes.

Why do you discount all of that? That's the simplest check for resolve in my book.
The best men die first. The cowards and grifters and politicians stay home and Jody all the ladies. History is replete with this horror.

But let's not fall for a sunk cost fallacy. None of us cared much about Ukraine's borders in 1991 or 2008 or even in 2012. Ukrainians may have: and that's their prerogative, but i still want no part in funding the perpetuation of a European death machine when it can end with a redrawing of lines that I don't care about. Let Zelensky appeal to Europe.
It is their prerogative and exactly what my point was. You then just extended the goal posts here.
Well, that's because you can't take their honor in a vacuum. They're like a boxer who managed to survive the first round and has subsequently been held up as an unconscious punching bag by American weapons and taxpayers. Their young men's honor: our foisting. They'd not be in this position but for Putin and Biden*.

What "we" do to their young men with the complicity of Zelensky sickens me. I have no personal desire to see Russia collapse. I don't see how that improves the world. Or keeps nuclear weapon stockpiles properly protected and maintained.

With its oil, minerals, thriving agriculture sector, ……….

He's going to end up with a chunk of it, but he wanted it all. Instead, he's going to end up with a larger, better armed NATO, a more precarious northern fleet station, a freshly western armed Ukraine, 300,000 fewer laborers, a decimated army, ………. Quite a victory over Nazis and Biolabs. Yep, the master strategist achieved all his goals.

This kind of specious logic, and corrupt politicians sending money to a corrupt Ukraine regime is exactly why Trump was elected.
We send billons to Ukraine, but $700 dollars to Americans whose houses were burnt down.

I'm going to go with the "Trump speak" easiest answer here which is that he meant Zelensky is underwater in actual approval by 4 percent. Though, it's tough to know because Ukraine doesn't have a free press, of course, so this is interpreting Trump's language and the likelihood of intelligence reports he gets.

The 'truth' is that there are a plethora of reports of disapproval among Ukrainians of Zelensky, and have for years.

I do have some sympathy for the situation Zelenski is in. NATO and the West did promise to protect Ukraine from Russian aggression when they agreed to give up their nukes. You can make a valid argument on whether or not we have done enough to fulfill the obligation we gave them.

Additionally, a peace agreement was on the table early in the war. Biden and company trashed it so they could cash in with their military industrial complex buddies. Russia deserves a vast majority of the blame this debacle, but we shouldn't pretend to be innocent as the fresh snow.

In the end, there will be no winners in this mess. Only farmlands full of corpses and daisies.
The Ukes were invaded after making a deal to give up their nukes in the 90's. Russia at that time was interested in joining NATO and the west. True story.

But Clinton said no. Then pissed in Russia's wheaties. THAT is where the mistake was made.If that moron had given Russia the chance to join the West it changes everything:

Ukraine and Russia both become NATO and guess what...Never is even a war.
China would be strategically screwed.
Iran isolated.
The world at peace- well at least better off than now.

History in time will show this to be the biggest blunder of the last half of the 20th C

The intellectual, moral, and ethical decay of the MAGA movement on full display here. Lots of those who are complete slaves to the MAGA algorithm - the terminally online right.

This is not the party of Reagan for those of you who still blindly vote Republican. This is something entirely different. America's strength, resolve, and moral clarity are on the line and Donald Trump is failing miserably. The collapse of American power and influence will lead to a deterioration of quality of life - including in America. It will make wars much more likely. And it substantially increases the odds of global conflict between great powers. None of this is good if you actually think about it and are a student of history.

We are entering a much darker, dangerous, and turbulent world. Some of these trends were already happening. But instead of delaying, reversing or slowing this process down, Donald Trump is speedrunning this decline.

I never want to hear from somebody who isnt an algorithm slave again that Trump is a good negotaitor. He may be for himself but not America. He will almost certainly be standing side by side with Xi and Putin on May 9th in Moscow. Some of you may think that's so badass (this narcissist desperately wants to be just like Putin and Xi). Those that still love what America used to and should stand for will be horrified. Maybe you'll wake up then. Maybe you'll still be in denial and pretend this is still Ronald Reagan's party.

Also, for those that think Ukraine will collapse, I think you're just as wrong now as you were when you predicted this war would be over in 2 weeks. Russia is not doing well right now from a capacity to sustain their invasion and manage their economy and I think this is too much of an existential threat to Europe (particularly Germany and East) for them to ignore. America has given away a lot of political capital, and I'm still waiting for what we've gained.
