Give me a couple of examples of waste or fraud you saw in your department, including employees or co-workers who collected a paycheck and did nothing, and what steps you took to eliminate the waste and I will root for you. If you saw nothing or did nothing, then unfortunately you are part of the problem and why most are celebrating someone finally standing up for us, the American taxpayers. Hopefully you can respect that many of us wrote checks to the IRS last year for 6 or 7 figures and we are literally sick to our stomachs seeing how much waste and fraud exists and how this money was completely wasted.
Bingo...

Wanted or did? Because one POTUS is randomly sweeping up (out) employees and one may have made the statement you claim.

Keystone Pipeline and learn to code, I am pretty sure that happened.

Tell you what OP, maybe it's time to get a real job. Some of us wake up every day to make payroll for our employees and hope to have something left over for ourselves. We are taxed beyond reason so that people like you can enjoy cush bull**** jobs with 100% security and benefits.

I wish you no ill will, but don't forget, the purpose of the federal government is to serve the needs of the taxpayers, not to provide you a job.

It's a rare night that I don't wake up worried how I'm going to pay my payroll taxes and income taxes.

He very well could have been deeply concerned for you in your hard times. You are assuming he was not. When my good buddy that works for FMC Energy has gone through this, I have been very concerned and spent alot of time on the phone with him and put up alot of prayers for him and his family. I don't work in oil in gas. The bottom line is no one should gloat about misery loving company when it comes to people you don't even know. Some people in the gvt have some reaping coming from their prior sowing. Some people are just getting a raw deal just like what happens in the private sector. For the raw deal people, this really sucks like it does in the private sector. Fair enough for the dead weight, though. But assuming people deserve their bad fortune or were rooting against you in the past is not right and gloating in people's misfortune goes against part b of the Big Guy's command to love your neighbor as yourself.

I am sorry that the OP faces financial uncertainty about whether he can adopt his foster children.

On the other hand, when I compare this to the devastation of private small business owners from a not at all optional government imposed lockdown it pales in comparison. Federal employees collected reliable paychecks from home while small businesses were forced to shut down as big box stores remained open across the street.

There is no comparison between the personal tragedies facing government workers that have been offered 8 months of severance to those private business owners and employees who were forced to shut down and be confined to home without a federal direct deposit. To add insult to injury, many of those small business owners weren't even eligible for the $1200 COVID stimulus check because they earned too much in 2019.

I don't root against the OP or other federal employee who face layoffs but I do compare them to those employed in the private sector who had their livelihoods crushed, with only hours of advanced notice, by the suspension of the Bill of Rights imposed on them by essential workers in the federal bureaucracy. I support the disassembly of a two-tiered society where millions of bureaucrats collect paychecks from Indefinite WFH and the private sector faced arrest for opening a restaurant or a gym. Take apart that bureaucracy in a way that it can't be put back together.

No one is rooting against federal workers. But there's massive bloat with an almost unrecoverable deficit. Like any organization there have to be cuts. I feel for the honest federal employees who may get axed because of corruption and incompetence, but it's unavoidable at this point.

I've been at USGS since 2019, prior to that I was with the VA for a decade. Between my jobs with the VA, USGS Department of the Army, and my time in the Army, I've done a lot of work for a lot of agencies. My worry wasn't for my job, it was for my kids. As you all root against federal workers, I was just a service connected Veteran who became a foster family. Politics aside, come this summer, I had hoped to adopt my foster children, that won't happen if the democrats get their way, and that is trueing most Republicans as well
Oh Boo frickin whooo. Welcome to the real world. I have never seen such whining in my life. Do you sit down to pee?

You know i've lurked on this site for years and when there were downturns in the oilfield, I didn't see folks who got laid off cry like you. Grow a pair and get a job. They are out there if you look. It sucks yes, but don't come here looking for sympathy. Especially using this idea you were going to adopt a kid to garner sympathy. Home Depot is hiring. When I lost my oilfield job in 2016, I was 52 years old. I was terrified, but I went to work looking for a job. At one point I worked at Home Depot to provide. That is what you do, not whine on a website.

Remind me of how many federal employees were forced out of their job because of covid?
My wife and I left our jobs because of the COVID crackdown. No vax for us. We trained for our class A CDL then hit the open road as contract team truck drivers to get away from it all - Fed Ex Custom Critical. It wasn't an ideal situation but, we stayed in it long enough for the COVID insanity to finally pass. She's back to nursing and I'm back to IT.

We actually made more money truck driving than we did in our regular professions. However, trucking is a tough, very dangerous line of work. I-80 through Wyoming is one of the most terrifying places in the world to drive a big truck during the winter because of the ice and wind but, we did it numerous times. We gained a fantastic appreciation for the people delivering groceries and other goods to market.

All of that to say, "smart people find a way". Be willing to step out of your comfort zone.

Yeah I'm sorry you are dealing with that and wish you luck but welcome to the real world. I've been through about a dozen layoffs (only got let go in one, fortunately). Most of us have experienced it or will at some point. It's stressful for sure but if you bust your ass I bet you'll come out better off. Unless you were a lazy parasite government worker… in that case you may not find something that suits your work ethic (not saying that is the OP).

We're laying off federal workers we don't need. There are thousands upon thousands of them. The layoffs would be more targeted, if not for federal worker unions, which should not exist.

Y'all can't both hamstring the president's ability to fire and complain that the wrong people are being laid off.

I root against the career federal employees who are in it to fly under the radar until they can get their pension, and do more to enable big bloated gov rather than reduce it.

This covers a significant portion of career federal workers in my opinion.
I have no empathy for any federal worker no matter how noble their personal life. None.

I dont read it that way. The dude is spooked and concerned for his family if you cant get that you are either a would be internet bad ass or just broken.

Most of us have been there. My case 1995, 33 years old- mom dies, I lose my job, 2 small kids at home with a mortgage and 2 car payments typical of my age and demographic.

When you are in that spot there are no alternatives but fight your way out of it. Started an IT business in Austin as a well thought out but desperate play. Didn't make a dime first 2 months back against the wall. Then boom that planning and hard work begins to hit home. Ended up being the best thing ever for my career and financial well being.

Point is dont give up hope, come up with a plan and dont panic. Work your butt off. Put your faith in the Lord, then literally take the attitude that there are wolves at the door and you have to kill them to save your kids. That will give you all the motivation you need.

During the campaign, pa24 was diehard trump and trolled DeSantis supporters constantly.

Now, pa24 is practically a liberal.

OP, I hope you can find employment if you are fired. Remember, it happens all the time in the private sector.

Remember when Biden callously told the unemployed coal miners: learn to code. Remember when Biden shut down Keystone and 1000s lost their jobs? Remember when he stopped frak'ing on Fed lands and many in the oil field lost their jobs? Remember when Biden fired anyone and everyone that would not take the experimental vaccine?

You have an anecdote and so do I. My son and daughter in law were trying to get pregnant during the covid vax period. Biden told the hospitals that if any worker was not vaxed, they would lose all their Medicare and Medicaid funding. My daughter in law was a nurse for a hospital. She was told: get the vax or you are fired. She was in tears because she was concerned about the vax and how it would affect her unborn child. No liberal gave two ****s about it.

I don't remember any news stories or liberal crying about any of it. They were cheering if I recall correctly.

Talk to God before texags.
That being said, it happens.
Dad got fired as principal because Drs daughter didn't get cheerleader.
Math teachers with rooms full of clowns got fired for test scores.
I bought a house and got fired with head coach for a 2-8 season after lots of injuries.
Elementary teachers in Lufkin are facing layoffs because enrollment is down and closing two schools.
And of course everyone knows what happened to East Texas when Lone star steel closed.
Lots of work - everywhere. You may not like it, but work is honorable.

But don't forget ESG reporting that cut a significant amount of funding to Oil and Gas exploration (driven by democrats, and we're seeing now, USAID), and more draconian environmental rules for flaring.

For about the last ten years, my annual federal income tax has been more money than what I had hoped as my eventual net worth, when I was in school. That enormous tax burden coviscates my hard earned money and prevented me from providing many things for my family.

Others may believe my family should pay for drag operas in Ireland or Afghani lectures on early 20th century American shock art, but I do not.

Don't hitch your wagon to a corrupt horse and expect sympathy from me.

I wish I got 8 months when I was laid off from CVX in 2016. At the time my wife wasn't working and staying at home with our 2 young sons and I was the sole provider. Had to pack our bags, sell our home in The Woodlands, and move to safe shelter near where we both grew up in the RGV for a few years. Ended up in food and beverage and never looked back.

Like everybody else has said, buckle up and quit moaning. We have all been through it if you have worked long enough in the private sector.

I'm sorry to hear that your plans of fostering children, which is a noble undertaking that I applaud you for, is in jeopardy due to potential job loss.

But it sounds like you have been in government for several decades and this is your first time to think that your job may be in jeopardy. Those of us in the private sector have dealt with that reality several times over in the last couple of decades. Try being in a start up that has 3 RIFs in under 6 months, or O&G when oil prices tank, or in a company you plan on making a career out of getting bought by a multi national.

Fear of losing your job sucks, but the private sector deals with it all the time. I'm sure most federal workers will find a spot somewhere

As a former Fed I am rooting that as many can be fired as possible.

let's not act like leftists and pretend this is some calamity like 20,000 workers in Pennsylvania being thrown out of their jobs and entire communities destroyed in fracking or coal mining or oil pipelines

these government workers are THE MOST entitled workers in the entire world.

the VAST majority have salaries which dwarf your own salary- have houses valued at more than $850K and many are corrupt and getting paid for two jobs or kickbacks from another USG program

is there ANYONE on this board who has never been fired/laid off/ downsized in a 30 year career in the private sector?!?!
