As stated earlier, I would now welcome a 3 person primary.

Cornyn, Paxton, and Chip Roy.

Chip would be seen as the centrist of those 3. Would be a debate for the ages.

Chip!

Not a completely worthless dip**** like Paxton and Cornyn.

As much as I love Chip, I wonder if he thinks has more power influence in the House with the Freedom Caucus.

As RINO as he is, Cornyn will win in a landslide against any Dem. The vast majority of GOP will vote for him as will the moderates and independents. Even most of the folks on here that hate him will reluctantly vote for him.

But, Paxton will be more controversial than Cruz (who shouldn't be controversial, but whatever, that's another thread so argue that there). Which will make his election tight like Cruz v Beto. That means money will need to be poured into the election to ensure the GOP wins - money that could otherwise be spent on more important things...

Exactly what evidence do you have for any of this?

In 2022, Paxton, with the same voters voting in the election that will be voting in the Senate election (relatively speaking), won by 9+% and won 233 counties.

In 2018, he won by 3.5 percent, which was better than Cruz that year.

In 2014, he won by over 20%.

In the latter 2 elections, people (mostly) knew about the allegations. I would venture, AT WORST, in a hypothetical 2026 general, he'd win by 5%, barring catastrophic politics between now and then.
Paxton does very well in elections...always much better than the biased polls...he will give Cornyn a big test.

Honestly the frustrating thing about this is that Paxton knows he will run a close race.

Cornyn (like him or hate him) absolutely destroys the Dems in elections. They don't waste much effort or money in even trying most times.

With Paxton, the Dem machine will come down on Texas the same way they did with Beto because he is vulnerable. He might well win, but I guarantee you it will cost down ballot races throughout the state.

Paxton knows that and doesn't care. Too much ambition.
Cornyn has been a senator since his 40's. Paxton is just now running for Senate. So no...not too much ambition.

You have to laugh out loud at Cornyn's release yesterday about Paxton that he Cornyn is a true blue supporter of Trump.

The gall of his staff...they're posting that and meanwhile trying to harm Trumps agenda at every available step.

1. There is a reason Soros spends so much money going after Cruz.
2. There is a reason Soros will spend millions to keep Coryn elected.
3. Crossover voting will be a thing in this one.

Don't be shocked if there are some voter irregularities in this one.

I should move back to Texas so I can get involved in dethroning Cornyn.... who sold out Texans and Americans on signing onto a Biden gun control bill.

Roy and Paxton would split the non-Cornyn vote. They would damage each other in ads and debates.

Either vs Roy vs Cornyn or Paxton vs Cornyn. Straight up.

Now Chip Roy winning the primary would be good. He doesn't have the baggage that Paxton has and he's more conservative than Cornyn.

So, he'd probably have the same chance to win as Cornyn. Paxton's baggage would make that race harder for the GOP.

Cornyn was 49 while running. And Ken Paxton is currently 58....so the POINT IS TRUE. Ken isn't overly ambition. He's built a long career as a litigator, a corporate lawyer for JC Penney, a Texas House Rep, the Texas Senate, and the Texas AG.

I agree with you but I think you need to have one more variable in your math.

If…….if………the market and purchasing power of the dollar has not recovered in 17 months……….i think things are going to be a bloodbath for Republicans. Perhaps as much as a 2-3 pt swing could easily occur. Then every last .1% could make the difference.
Sure, a lot can happen and things could be very negative in some scenarios. That said Texas has gotten more Red not less so if that seat is in danger we have a lot bigger problems. It's going to take more than 2-3 points though for either of them to lose. For context Cornyn beat a very well funded and well packaged MJ Hegar in a bad cycle for the GOP in 2000 by 10 points. In the strong cycle of 2014 he won by 17. Ted Cruz had a solid challenge by Allred and still won by 9 in '24.

It's just a lot of headwinds to take out a GOP Senator in Texas. It takes serious depression of the GOP vote combined with serious enthusiasm among D's just to make it remotely competitive.

Or she wanted to put out a statement and wanted it in her own words. As much as you guys do not want to admit it, Twitter is a PR form these days as well. Just because it has some lunatics on it doesn't mean it's not legit on how most companies and people get their news out these days. The days of faxing press releases are over.

Cornyn's goose is still cooked for the primary. We might have a little trouble getting Paxton over the line in the general but I hope not.

A little? Who else might jump in to be the leading candidate to beat Cornyn right now though? The Paxton divorce news is only going to get uglier over the next 6 months (primary in February). I honestly have no clue, and expect him to luck into no decent opponents yet again.

There's no way Paxton/Fallon beat him at this point. And note, I want to be wrong, I just don't know of any credible threats within the party.

Yes, that is what I think. I believe Paxton has no shot now. His divorce news saga will kill financial donations and his shot not just in the primary but also the general.

These allegations are nothing new, having been public knowledge for at least five years. The divorce announcement just stirs **** up again.

I really don't see how this impacts the primary. The MAGA base already hates Cornyn and loves Paxton. And anything that looks like an organized attack I think would only bolster him with the base.

I agree it could have large impacts in November. Cornyn, were he to survive the primary, would be a shoe-in with RINOs, CMs, and moderates voting for him. Paxton was already a question mark for the general, and stirring this stuff up again just reminds many voters why they never liked him in the first place.

There is a reason why unlike Tillis and NC, Trump has not intervened in this race.
