Please include a rule that forces auto companies to offer a free software update to permanently remove this feature in existing vehicles.
This times a million!
What vehicle doesn't allow you to turn off auto-stop-start?

Im not aware of one that doesnt default to "on" every restart of you vehicle. That's different that permanently turning it off
My 2018 Ram 2500 and my wife's 2019 Tahoe both have options in the menu to permanently turn off the auto start crap. 99% certain my daughters little Jetta has the same option.

I get that is in jest...but, the point was determining what the minimum safety requirement should be.

So- lights, indicators, wipers, mirrors, maybe seat belts and airbags probably are all necessary at the to safely operate a vehicle at the bare minimum level. That is where the govt mandates should end, imo.

Back up cameras, blind spot indicators, auto turn off of engine, auto stopping, stopped obstacle warnings, look in rear reminder pings, auto lowering of volume until seat belt is buckled, et all, shouldn't be required. They should be optional upgrades that each consumer can add to the vehicle.

Otherwise, it's just a tax and additional barrier to using a public good.

Air bags are not. They do not assist in control of the vehicle. All of those others do.

Bring back wing windows, and dimmer switch on floor.
Make sun roofs an option on a truck that may actually leave asphalt on a regular basis.
Make rubber mat interiors an option, not a special expensive upgrade.
When a rear camera can be viewed while driving, it will be worth having. You know those times when you hit the road with a trailer or something in the bed, and then wonder down the road if you latched trailer or secured that item in bed?
Pretty sure Dodge can view the camera while driving (I've had several rentals for work).
As for securing your trailer and your load. Do a proper 360 and pre-trip inspection and you won't have to worry about it.

I despise this on my new F150. Stupidest feature ever.
https://www.4dtech.com/products/ford/f-150/2025/

I got the 4dtech plug for our 22 Expedition, takes 5 minutes to install in the passenger kick panel, works great. Ford changed some things in 22 (at least on the Expys) to where Forscan couldn't permanently disable A.S.S anymore, hence the need for these modules.

Ordered a 2023 Expedition back in Feb. '23 and the salesman worked up the quote, I noticed Auto Stop Delete and a $75 credit on line item order sheet. He told me he does that on every vehicle that he orders for a customer because no one ever said, "make sure you get that auto-stop on my new car!" I thought about giving him my $75 credit in cash for being such a smart, thoughtful guy.

Had this on a rental car once and quickly figured out how to disable it completely. Do newer cars not allow this?

This was so ridiculous for so many obvious reasons but the one I hated the most, only when I was unlucky enough to drive one as a rental, is it was so damn disconcerting to have it sound like the engine died at every red light. It's such an uneasy feeling, especially in a rental, where you're already not familiar with your surroundings.

on the BMW it is not just every red light- it's every time you try to park, or you are trying to turn at a stop sign and the engine cuts out when you are trying to gun it...

AWFUL!!
...you can code the car to retain the last auto start/stop setting with ~$75 in hardware/software. Plus you can enable a bunch of other features BMW doesn't want you to have

Of course I'm in the market for a new car now. How fast can this get implemented? I'd consider waiting if it could be done swiftly. Such a stupid "feature"

You want to save gas at stoplights, improve stop light technology. Most should be blinking either four way stop or yellow from 8:00pm to 6:30am or traffic controlled. And freaking time them correctly on streets.

Did they ever demonstrate that it could save an appreciable amount of fuel in typical driving patterns?

The only time I could think it would remotely make sense is city driving in a properly designed hybrid that can do a fair amount of slow speed driving electric only.

Probably not. And I've always wondered about the wear and tear of stopping the engine and starting it like that. Is that a concern?!

It's the government. The same group that did Covid and makes people take shoes off at airports. Oh, but you're no longer a terrorist suspect if you pay the fee to keep your shoes on.

Adding a huge number of cycles in mixed or boundary lube is asking for problems, especially with 0w20 or lower viscosity.

Regardless of what small amount of fuel savings it may provide, the idiots at the epa clearly didn't consider the tradeoff of battery and starter early replacement.

They likely did but didn't care because global warming.

I freaking despise roundabouts. Fun? FUN!!??!!! Seriously? People handle these worse than they do 4-way stops or blinking lights, and I would be one of the worst participants if driving in one.

I drive in Mexico frequently and have learned to like them. Mexican drivers in Mexico are superior to US drivers. In US. Since we can't remember the basic rules of ROW at a four way, from drivers Ed, I think it's time that we put a real challenge out there.

Mexican drivers are indeed superior drivers because Mexico sends all their bad drivers to San Antonio to operate gravel trucks.
