Your tag line says:

I will no longer discuss politics with you. I reject your premises and world view. I am finished trying to compromise with you.

Pretty sure that combined with the "**** YOU TOO" means you're looking to vent and for pity.

Yeah Pam Bondi is an idiot for what she said. Super disappointed in that. But jawboning is legal according to the Supreme Court. I refuse to fight a (increasingly less) Cold Civil War against people who hate me, my religion, my way of life and who will kill you and beat you for your opinion with one hand tied behind my back.

You know when the Marquis of Queensbury rules work? When both sides will agree and live up to them. Usually with a referee to call the infractions. Do we have that now? Do you honestly believe that is the attitude of the left? You're sad your side has drawn the line at the cold blooded assassination of one of their own followed by wide spread celebrations by the other side? I'm sorry, but sometimes you have to use the rules and play the game as it is. When one side has rejected the conventions, you fight them where they are and not where you wish they were. This isn't the Tip O'Neil Democrats, it's not Newt and Bill working things out while being deeply opposed. No, we're a few millimeters away from there being Bloody Kansas across the whole country. If Trump or JD got shot, maybe even Elon, this country would explode. And the left desperately wants it in far too high a percentage of it's adherents.

So you can ask for pity. You can vent about your beliefs. Fine. But sitting on the sidelines isn't much of an option anymore because they'll come for you. In some cases they'll murder you in the street for doing your job and lionize you. Or for talking to someone and post celebratory dances on Tic Tok. Youth pastors did it. The left is so soaked in this that leftist pastors were celebrating publicly. They'll go on TV and lie about it, blame you and double, triple, quadruple down. Know the hour. If you want an off ramp you get on sides or you acquiesce to the coming chaos.

The right does not want to censor speech. The right wants a culture that isn't using bombastic language and gaslighting to drive people to assassinations.

The left continues to do it anyway.

Kenneth posted this a couple days ago, and needs to continually be posted...

Quote:

The left wants you canceled, silenced, and shut down for not agreeing with them.

The right wants to see you face consequences for inciting or supporting violence and criminal acts.

We are not the same.

There have been thread after thread listing the real cancel culture and silencing of conservatives, by the actual US Government.

Kimmel losing his job for being an idiot is not remotely the same as Biden's admin instructing the FBI to investigate 92 conservative groups, or Obama using the IRS to shut down groups he disagreed with. Or banks being forced to de-bank conservative groups, or people fired for disagreeing with the CDC, etc, etc, etc.

THOSE are actual examples of Free Speech being impeded.

Equating the two is extremely disingenuous.

Freedom of speech is a fundamental right.

Also, companies/corporations have the right to fire folks who speak in a way that reflects poorly on their employers, on either side.

Already posted, but can't be said enough, because some people are too dumb to get it:

Freedom of speech is NOT freedom from responsibility and consequences.

Mark Zuckerberg, in a letter to the House Judiciary Committee, stated that senior officials from the Biden administration "repeatedly pressured" his teams for months to censor "certain COVID-19 content," including humor and satire. He also said that officials expressed "a lot of frustration" when the company didn't agree.

I'm sure it had nothing to do with a pending multi-billion dollar merger and the one footing the bill didn't want their brand to become absolutely worthless like msnbc and sold off for the value of the camera equipment.

The left wants to censor speech. The right wants to censor speech. People on the right decried cancel culture and yet here they are cancelling away. You know who you are.

I have always voted conservative because I saw it as the best option to avoid authoritarianism. I dismissed people saying the right was authoritarian. But, after the last few days and Bondi's statement, I really don't know anymore. To hear a conservative AG spew **** about hate speech sent a chill up my spine. Sure I despise the left and what they say, but they have the right to say it.

I'm sure many will reply with "are you concerned?" and the standard braindead mocking replies. Others will engage in ad hominem attacks. People will say that private companies have the right to censor - sure they do…and I'd probably have bought that argument until I heard what Bondi said. I've been outspoken about the leftists, but if you support this stuff, **** YOU TOO.

If you support this, you are no better than the leftists that quelled free speech the last decade.

I feel like a dog without a home.

Well. The right may want you fired for making light of someone's assassination but the left will kill you for trying to have a conversation if they disagree with what you're saying. So tell me again how this is a "both sides" thing

I'm guessing he's referring to Trump's comments about stripping FCC licenses from media companies that oppose him. That is legitimately concerning long-term although I don't understand the real impact of it because it's just the broadcast networks that have one.

Example: FNC does not have an FCC license like ABC, NBC, and CBS do because it's not an OTA channel. Having an FCC license seems like a dinosaur at this point considering cable, satellite, and streaming markets we have now.

In theory, if I'm one of the latter and lost my license, then I simply move my national news departments to a cable satellite format like FNC and run an end around. However, they also probably already know that is a massive money losing venture since Democrat eyeballs are already split across a half dozen networks whereas conservative eyeballs are all on one network.

Someone who understands the FCC much better than me will weight in, I'm sure.

What Trump said:

Quote:

"They give me only bad press, but they're getting a license," Trump said while speaking to reporters on Air Force One. "I would think maybe their license should be taken away, it will be up to Brendan Carr," referring to the Federal Communications Commission chairman.

Add in Brendan Carr "suggesting" that ABC's license be looked into. The media gets to say mean things about the president that may give him a case of the asschafe. That's core 1A protected speech.

The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) is a U.S. government agency that regulates interstate and international communications by radio, television, wire, satellite, and cable. For network television, the FCC's rules are primarily based on the principle of serving the "public interest, convenience, and necessity."

Content Regulation: This is one of the most well-known aspects of FCC rules. The agency prohibits the broadcast of obscene material at all times.

Just stop.

Kimmel, like Colbert saw a massive ratings drop YoY and escalating production costs. His contract was reaching it's end and when he popped off, it was the affiliates, not the FCC that went ballistic. It was the affiliates that caused this. Now the FCC and Trump and for sure spiking the football, but they were never the cause of this and we have video after video of Carr confirming this.

The affiliates pressured ABC hours after Carr went on Benny Johnson's podcast and said "Frankly, when you see stuff like this I mean, we can do this the easy way or the hard way, these companies can find ways to change conduct and take action, frankly, on Kimmel, or there's going to be additional work for the F.C.C. ahead"
