And I went to the Notre Dame game and stayed in Chicago. It was awesome. Clean, no homeless, no cops on corners. Went from downtown to Wrigleyville and bar hopped in between. I understand South Chicago is a different area, much like parts of Dallas in San Antonio and other major cities. But downtown Chicago was very impressive.

Midwest liberal cities are still working on the social contract of '"Don't go harass the nicest areas and generally you can do whatever you want in your crappy neighborhood'. Any lapse in that contract is just related to police getting soft on crime in their nice areas. Doesn't take long for that to correct itself though.

Chicago in the warm sunny months is very nice and the impending blanket of winter puts pressure on everyone A) to go out and enjoy the summer and B) not put up with over the top BS from parts of society that make it miserable to drink in public.

Its too cold for massive amounts of homeless to stick around midwest cities so open drug use and pestering homeless is easy to manage compared to the west coast. After every winter you get to start over with enforcement.

One of the safest areas public areas I've experienced was in a St. Louis suburb that was deep in the middle of the safe zone. Everyone was nice. The parks and trails were nice. No pitbulls. Lots of kids running around. No melting pot of cultures. Everyone operating under the same social contract. I can't remember the last time I experienced that in Houston without it being a paid experience.

Was very shire-like looking back on it. And mordor was just a 20 minute drive eastward.

which stats are you using that show Chicago as among the most dangerous cities per capita? Everywhere I look, I see Memphis at the top, and Chicago way down the list.

houston and several other texas cities have higher violent crime rates than chicago. when are we sending in the army to clean those cities up?

I've lived in both Houston (downtown) and Chicago (downtown). You absolutely can't compare the two.

turns out you actually can with this cool thing called data! 2024 violent crime rates per 100k:

houston: 1148
chicago: 540

it's obvious the national guard deployments are not about curbing crime at all (except for memphis - that's a legit problem), but rather intimidating the standard blue city punching bags and feebly projecting military strength to mask the administration's incompetence with distractions

I think it's about time to flag for derail. The influx of NG has no direct connection to per capita crime. It has to do with protecting federal employees and property as has been duly noted here multiple times.
ice agents were shot at in dallas, yet no NG deployments there. why?

once again, it's because the NG deployments are about intimidating the standard blue city punching bags and feebly projecting military strength to mask the administration's incompetence with distractions

Seems like some are conflating two different things on this thread:

1) Use of NG to support ICE and federal police in arresting, deportation of illegals where ICE and feds/fed buildings are coming under attack from organized and funded brown shirt Antifa types and other rabble while being aided and abetted by local politicians who are telling local police to stand down. This is being considered for Portland and Chicago and happened in LA a few months back.

2) Use of NG and federal law enforcement to help clean up crime in select cities. This is happening in DC and Memphis.

For #1, I think the use of the NG is entirely appropriate to protect federal property and law enforcement as the local and state and in some cases national politicians from those areas are enabling criminals to break the law with no consequence and no help from local law enforcement.

For #2, its a more difficult call but in the case of DC was OK because of federal jurisdiction there and in the case of Memphis, they were asked to support by TN Gov Bill Lee. I think its a more dicey proposition to unilaterally send in troops in a crime clean up effort and should tread very carefully.

Because Dallas is not opposing ICE. Texas law enforcement works with ICE.

Portland's government is basically run by antifa. They fully support antifa and would gladly standby and watch all the federal buildings get burned down and every ICE agent be publicly killed.

Chicago is attempting to obstruct ICE as much as they can.

Of course, you already knew the answer to your question.
"If you will not fight for right when you can easily win without blood shed; if you will not fight when your victory is sure and not too costly; you may come to the moment when you will have to fight with all the odds against you and only a precarious chance of survival. There may even be a worse case. You may have to fight when there is no hope of victory, because it is better to perish than to live as slaves." - Sir Winston Churchill

Ok, that makes the connection, rather than sending us on a tangent about the specifics of ICE and whether the courts should be allowing them to round people up the way they are.

Yes, ICE and other law-enforcement agencies have the authority to operate in the US, subject to some limitations. And the feds have the authority to use law-enforcement powers to enforce that authority.

Where it gets messy is when they arguably exceed constitutional authority, and the courts have to sort it out, but the events on the ground move faster than the courts.

And obviously, the lawless and violent street takeovers are not constitutionally protected speech, just to get that clear before you ask.

Deploying the National Guard should be very rare, and only if they truly have exhausted civilian options. And regular and reserve troops should not be used unless have actually descended into Civil War already.

well, are you reading the comments by the State and local leadership in Portland and Chicago? One has declared an "Ice Free Zone". Sorry, he can't do that.

Here is the simple facts. ICE is a federal agency that is operating with in 'it's limits' of authority. Find and detain illegal immigrants. These laws are on the books, they are federal laws, And no city can declare itself an independent sanctuary against federal law.

So these state and local authorities are encouraging an attack on ICE that is an attack on a US Government agency that is actually doing what it is created and paid to do. Find and remove illegal immigrants.

An attack on ICE is an attack on the US Government.

So when local authorities seek to block a federal agency from doing it's job it is already on the verge insurrection, when it actively declares certain areas ICE Free or a Sanctuary for illegal aliens it is in rebellion. Ask South Carolina how this went in 1832.

The root of the issue here is very simple.

ICE has a job mandated by the laws of the country, They seeking to do their job.

There are state and local authorities that are actively breaking the laws that ICE is created to do. And not only that they are now seeking stir up attacks against this federal agency. For what reason!?

To protect illegal aliens!

Johnson should be arrested, immediately.

People crossing the U.S. border without authorization violate Title 8, Section 1325 of the U.S. Code-improper entry by an alien.

Repeat offenders or those sneaking in should face felony charges under Section 1326-reentry after deportation.

People here violating Title 8, Section 1325 that commit other crimes deserve swift removal.

People who overstay visas or expired work permits break other immigration laws.

The federal government has a Homeland Security Department that houses the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) division. It's their job to do exactly that: enforce immigration laws.

The American people voted for them to do their one job- the one they've been ignoring for years under the direction of the Biden admin.

This is not Gestapo rounding up minorities for a fascist regime. And this is not an insurrection.

And give me a break with this "zzzzomg it was the plan all along!! I knew this was always the plan reeeee"

If you didn't intentionally open the border and invite the whole world in unfettered with offers of free stuff, allowing 20 million migrants from over 180 different countries in four years, there would be no need for any plan whatsoever.

Why did you want this? Why are open borders good for us? Why is the next elected admin "fascist" for trying to clean up your mess by enforcing existing laws you chose to ignore? Why do you need your foot soldiers attacking and taking shots at agents doing their jobs?
