Is there, or more accurately was there, anything special or historic about the East Wing?

My prediction is the Rose Garden will be restored by the next president, but the ballroom will become a much-used and well-known part of the White House.

So Vance turns it into a giant still for White House moonshine or Rubio builds a bunch of cash chinas for weekly pig roasts. I am fine with those options.

No. Built in 1902 as extra office space. Offices for the First Lady, White House theater.

He and some friends. Libs believe he is selling influence by allowing his friends contribute.

Well that's rich. Nothing like your son painting crappy art for $500,000

I think Biden installed lights so they could rainbow it up for pride. Trump should turn on the gold color and project his family crest.

Liberal dears will never end.

Lots of other Major renovation projects are happening in DC; where is the outrage over taxpayer spending?

Did not recall the libs being so upset over the Fed Reserve renovations.

The addition, which looks amazing, is being paid for by private donations - not taxpayer dollars.

Presidents have been renovating and expanding the White House for more than a century.

1: In 1902, Teddy Roosevelt built the West Wing.

2: In 1909, William Howard Taft added the first Oval Office. Taft also had the stables, which had housed the White House's horses, converted to make room for the first presidential fleet of four cars

3: In 1933, FDR expanded again adding a second floor, moving the Oval Office, completing the East
Wing, and even building an indoor pool.

4: In 1948, Harry Truman went big, gutting and rebuilding the entire interior of the White House from the ground up.

5: In the 1970s, Richard Nixon turned that old pool into the press briefing room and added a bowling alley.

6: In 2009, Barack Obama swapped the tennis court for a basketball court.

President Trump commandeered the construction of the grand ballroom, an addition that many of his predecessors contended the White House desperately needed.

Whiners gonna whine. The libs are beyond help.

Trump could be putting in a St Jude wing to treat kids with cancer and the libs would freak out about it. Its what they do. Reflexively being against anything that Trump does has created a massive "boy who cried wolf" from them and honestly they still do not get why a ton of Americans are tuning out their whining.

I think it's tacky the speakers only play God Bless the USA and YMCA, but maybe something can be done about that in the future.

I am 90% certain it's not just satirical but also making fun of some leftist that posted something like this on behalf of their child during the campaign...

that's disgusting!

The roses are still there. They just paved the lawn where all the events take place. Most of the White House functions as an event venue. It's more practical to have a paved area for outdoor events.

Not really. It's mostly just offices which can be moved to a new location.

The East Wing of the White House traditionally housed the offices for the First Lady and her staff, including the social secretary, correspondence staff, and calligraphers. It also includes the President's Theater and the visitor's entrance for White House tours. As of October 2025, parts of the East Wing are being demolished to make way for a new ballroom, and the staff has been temporarily relocated.

  • The First Lady's Office:
This has been the primary and most traditional occupant of the East Wing for many years.
  • First Lady's Staff:
The wing provided office space for staff members such as the chief of staff, social secretary, and the press secretary for the First Lady.
  • Correspondence and Calligraphy:
The East Wing also housed the White House Graphics and Calligraphy Office and offices for correspondence staff.
  • Public and Ceremonial Areas:
It contains the visitor's entrance, a lobby for receptions and state dinners, and the Jacqueline Kennedy Garden.
  • Other Offices:
It also included a conference room and has been used for various staff offices

If Trump had been smart about it, he would have demolished the East Wing in a way that maximizes the ability to sell pieces of it like Truman did in 1950.

This would have given time for democrats to file 50 lawsuits to liberal judges.

They've got their marching orders and are throwing hissy fits over the renovations going onto the White House. Harry Truman did one of the largest ever at the White House funny how that didn't bother anyone.

Did they really think it was going to stay the same the next hundred years or so it's not costing them a thing but now all of a sudden they care about establishment stuff? The last decade or so they have literally had their supporters out there, pulling down statues, burning buildings, assaulting, cops, assaulting, conservatives, killing conservatives, not giving a rats ass over what they vandalized, but this all of a sudden puts them over the edge. A coordinated rebuild.

And I'm not talking about just average weirdos. I'm talking about it's become the push now with the congressional Democrats as well.

Literally losing their **** over it.

It's always something with these nut jobs.

JFK added a near Olympic sized swimming pool, then Nixon paved it over for a new press room. Johnson was never happy with the force of the water from the shower. Eventually they got some engineers to install the most powerful shower on earth. Nixon's first shower and it nearly knocked him down, so he had it all ripped out.

Jackie made a ton of changes to the WH during JFK term

And IIRC, she solicited donations to do that. The White House was not in great shape when they arrived. Some of the fireplaces didn't even work. Wallpaper was faded and torn. Jackie also saw where there was a lot of antique furniture and art from the WH stored in warehouses. She curated from those warehouses as to what was brought back into the WH.

A few years later, she used that knowledge to use the Lincoln catafalque and among other things, for JFK's funeral procession, with the rider less horse. And she planned all of that after her husband was murdered in her presence and it was her son's birthday I think the next day. She went back to the WH for John John's birthday party.

Lady Bird also solicited donations for her anti-litter campaign of Make America Beautiful.
