The left's hypocrisy and ignorance are unlimited. They lost their minds over the White House renovations, but they tore down many statues over the past 4 years.

Agree

Also, I want that shower

The pressure was so high the plumbing burst and it flooded the rooms below.

So was johnson really looking for a powerful shower or was this a typical eff you present from an outgoing dem president for the incoming Republican? They didn't have any keyboards they could remove the "N" key off of so they had to do something

Pretty sure if I move in to the White House after Clinton I would ask for a new, clean keyboard and phone headset.

Back in the day I was at an O&G client and they had some desk phones that were a bit aged. I could barely hear so I unscrewed the earpiece cover.

25 years later I will barely touch a desk phones. Speaker or my cell only.

To have any criticism of what Trump is doing here is top level TDS. Nitpicking the design and scale as some have done either indicate folks who will never be happy with anything or folks who will me er be happy with anything Trump says or does.

The high pressure was per LBJ's request. For the entire duration of his presidency he was never satisfied with the shower, no matter what changes were made.

1934 FDR renovated the West Wing during the depression when folks were literally starving and standing in bread and soup lines for nourishment.

FDR did this at 100% taxpayer dollars during a time when the taxpayers were starving. So STFU about the Trump renovation going on during a self imposed government shutdown on the part of the Senate Democrats and Trump is funding this privately

Jasper, like all lefties, need a serious history lesson.

He has not been very transparent about it.

He started out saying they were going to add to the original and it would cost 200 million.

Now he's saying they are replacing the entire thing and it will cost 300 million.

My complaint is that the new version looks as if it will dominate the WH campus and dwarf the actual White House, which I do not like.

i'll give him credit though. Pretty dang smart of him.

He won't go to school until the WH is restored? Seems like he just exempted himself from school for a long time

What other president has received this type of scrutiny over the WH?

None. This is just more ginned up outrage over nothing. The left continues to roll out rage bait and people like you continue to bite.

And Adam's WH was burned to the ground in 1812. It was in such disrepair, it had to be completely gutted and rebuilt by Truman. This is like the 3rd or 4th iteration of the main house.

Not to mention near continual additions and subtractions to the property throughout nearly every president.

I am perfectly able to have my own opinion of whatever Trump does. I don't need to "bite" at anything.

As for reactions, as others have said, there was quite a bit of pushback when Truman decided to add a balcony.

Unlike Trump, Truman actually consulted others before he acted. Many opposed him and Congress refused to pay for it, so he paid for it with some "household funds."

After it was completed, a number of critics wrote him and told him the WH looked better with the new balcony.

If you look at the overhead view, it doesnt appear that way at all.

I'm actually glad he's rebuilding the existing structure, so it's all one congruent building. I think the way it was initially proposed it would have been a bit disjointed. And, it's likely time the offices were updated.

is he knocking down the entire east wing or just the portico and then adding the ball room? Commenters on X are saying they're just removing the portico. Others are saying he changes his mind and is tearing it all down.

Whats the truth?

The entire east wing is being demolished, and photos confirm it. Trump previously said the building would not be affected - that the ballroom would be near, but not touch the existing east wing.

Jasper's being taught by morons.

Jasper learned during his 1619 Project indoctrination that all nice things built in America were designed and constructed by enslaved Africans. All remodeling, expansion and even current staffing rely on the involuntary servitude of Africans.

Its like people don't even pay attention to corrected history and still go with what Whitey Teach taught them in the 80's.

Washington did approve the final design of the building and ordered its construction, so he is ultimately responsible for it being built, but no, Washington never so much as stepped foot on the construction site.

When renovating buildings, especially old ones, plans changed. Watch some This Old House for reference.

I heard that they ran into issues with the structure during demotion of the portico. I also imagine the East Wing was substandard for HVAC, power, lighting, plumbing, fire suppression, security, etc. There is nothing historic about old mechanical systems, asbestos, and concrete painted white.

Roof also looked in poor condition. Finally, they may be better able to manage the overall aesthetic and scale of ballroom by reworking the East Wing.

Thank God Trump is managing this.

And Im glad they changed their mind. Looking at the plans, the entire wing/ballroom will be much nicer this way. It all flows together now, instead of being disjointed.

Anyone who's ever built anything, even a house, knows plans change.

People acting like they were 'lied to' is really disingenuous. Unless, of course, they were intimately concerned with every step, of every former President's alterations to the property as well.

If you think I don't know how renovating old buildings works, you should spend more time on the Home Improvement board.

I've also been studying the White House since I was 12 and was waitlisted for consideration for a job in the WH Chief Usher's office.

What a non-story. You aren't paying for it, and there is nothing he is doing that's out of the ordinary, except that you aren't paying for it.
