That feature is mandated by the EPA-expense for no benefit. My 22 Bronco has button to deactivate the motor shutdown, but there is an aftermarket part that can be installed to permanently disable it which is what I am going to do.

Prediction: U.S. will lag and then will reach majority electric mileage on roads faster than any other country outside of China.

This is such a loaded prediction. Come on, man.

Of course we will. No other country has the driving culture that we do. We will win this by default and is not a fair metric.
Majority meaning >50% of miles driven on our roads being electric.

Most of this "growth" is not because of more acceptance, but rather more government interference. Electric cars were being forced down the consumers throats in Europe, Asia, and places like California in the good old USA.

Europe and China drive half as much as an American driver. They abandoned EV subsidies before the US. California bought them because they both drive a decent amount and have the money to. EV prices in China are now comparable to ICE vehicles and represents 33% of the market.

Nope. Nearly all electric generation will be sapped for AI. That's the better, more lucrative money play. Capital follows the safer, more lucrative path. Because I am old and have seen this crap before, am reminded of the dotcom boom that was not based on earnings, even performance. AI is in that stage, in my view. But capital will chase it anyway.

For a different reason, capital is fleeing California, now NYC and New Jersey.
Yup. It will be multiple decades before any country reaches >50% EV mileage, more than enough time to build out electric capacity. I'd we're worried about energy generation in 2035 we're a truly stupid country and Erik be showing Chinese.

The driver of that adoption is going to be one of the most profitable use cases for AI and is the furthest along towards driving real profitability from AI, autonomous driving.

Europe is nanny state/cautious and they will lag the U.S. in approval and adoption. China will win because in terms of aggression/technological adoption they're the U.S. before the finger waggers started gaining power. Much less regulation when the aim matches CCP desires.

Yeah, but even focusing on the US hitting that milestone first means nothing. Regardless of when it happens, we will be the first by default simply because of our geography, existing infrastructure, and our driving culture.

It's a hollow metric. We could plug and play any energy tech we could dream up when it comes to moving vehicles and we are going to be first because we are a car culture above all.

This is like when people complete a task and then they retroactively log the task so they can check it off that they did it.

Exclusive | Ford Considers Scrapping F-150 Lightning EV Pickup - WSJ

Which EV will be next? This vehicle was a non-starter from the get-go. IIRC, its mileage capability dropped to less than 100 miles on a full charge if it was pulling any kind of load.

The Dodge Recharger

Soon you will be able to get a Charger with a proper Hemi V-8. And for a cool quarter million, with production limited to 50.

https://www.motor1.com/news/777610/dodge-charger-hustle-stuff-drag-pack/

Though truthfully, the Hurricane inline-6 versions will be available in 420 or 550 hp.

The vast majority of 1/2 ton truck owners never or rarely tow anything. I've only owned a truck for the past 32 years and I've only done a U Haul trailer a handful of times. Next truck will likely be electric or the Ram hybrid since i use my truck as an office so much and being able to run AC without idling an ICE is appealing.

I think you think I'm saying U.S. electric miles > German electric miles. I'm saying 50% electric U.S. miles before 50% electric German miles.

Ford's entire electric program has been a colossal waste.

From what I'm told, the Mustang Mach E is actually a decent car, but Ford had to price it so low to sell, they it lost money on every car. Not to mention the abomination of calling it a Mustang.

Yet reading their marketing BS, they're bragging about how they're outselling regular gas powered Mustangs now.

A quick look on my local Ford Dealer's web site and it looks like you've got:
Mustang EcoBoost ~ $34k
Mustang MachE ~ $40k
Mustang GT ~ $44k

I would love to know the profitability by model.

a decently equipped GT is over 50K. It is ridiculous they took the "everyman" muscle car and made it so expensive it is out of reach for so many who would be in the market for one.

Bro, I feel the same way about my $60,000 Jeep Wrangler that's been my daily driver for the past 5 years. How does a freaking Jeep cost that much?

What's always cracked me up on Mustangs is that you can get a vanilla entry level one and then spend 2x as much on an optioned up GT.

It costs $60K due to climate-changer freaks and mandatory auto-shutoff BS like was discussed earlier. That and I assume $100/hour union tire installers(nothing personal to those guys of course).

Not to derail but I'm curious on what is the ceiling relative to income, for automobiles? This ridiculous trend ain't gonna work for most folks.

Even if electric trucks did get acceptable range towing, good luck finding a trailer-friendly pull-through charging station on the road.

Hybrids just make a ton more sense for a truck than an EV. Huge amounts of torque available, a powerful worksite generator with you at all times, long range when towing, and decent mileage.

Agreee but Not if it's a traditional Prius style hybrid where truck primarily runs on piss ant motor and then charges as a secondary design criteria. Needs to be a dedicated generator motor and a dedicated electric drivetrain motor…with some small batteries for quiet city cruising. Small quiet inverter diesel generator being ideal in this setup.

I believe it's close $60k when I recently priced one out. It's on my list because I want a V8 sports car/coupe for my next vehicle, but I'm not going to have many options by 2027 when I'm due.

The Lexus IS500 was on that list but it's now been discontinued based on other thread I just read.
