High school bands are pretty terrible. All these contemporary bull**** "marches" prepping for "competitions" during halftime... play some party music and engage the crowd. Thank God for the FTAB keeping it real. The crap I get to see on Friday nights... Boo.

You band parents hate it, you just can't admit it.

I didn't hate watching my son march. I enjoyed it, and left after half time, because I feel the same about high school football as you do about high school band. To each their own. But it provided community to my kid and it still does in college. It's cool when I see him on TV if I can't go in person.

It does look neat. Totally a different thing. They don't play much, so from a musical perspective, it's pretty elementary.

And yes, I enjoy high school football immensely and am said to see its north Texas demise.

What demise? It's as big as it ever has been. At least where we are.

Well you're not in north Texas cause it's pretty clear that there's a demographic tsunami on the horizon. Our high school football team is a no-cut sport which is great because it gives every boy on opportunity to participate and be involved in at least one sport. But of the 90 or so kids on that field last year, there was one Indian kid. My daughter's band is like 50% indian.

When we moved here a decade ago this town was like 90% white and 10% Asian. It's like 30% Asian now and not slowing down. I've got two houses for sale on my cul de sac and I'll be shocked if they're not both bought by Indians on visas.

I know your bleeding heart won't let you see the obvious cultural shift being forced upon this country. But that doesn't make it not true.

I'm not sure where you get bleeding heart. I don't really disagree with the h1b issue we have. I'm just saying that *****ing on a board won't make it better and we need to prepare our kids to be competitive. If that means leaning in to academics more than being the 3rd string tight end, do it.
As far as football's demise, I am in Allen, and despite a large Asian population, we are doing ok. And if your place was 90% white 10% Asian, you were missing out on black athletes so your team was probably already trash.

Fair enough. I apologize for my bleeding heart assumption. Nah, the high school football team here in southlake is pretty good. And we do have a few black athletes on the squad, their dads all played in the league though.

HS band parents were super sensitive when we'd get up and leave our seats as soon as it was halftime. A HS marching band halftime show is brutal to anyone who's not a parent or grandparent of someone in the band. Absolutely unwatchable.

Isn't your complaint properly directed towards white parents that aren't putting their boys in scouting?

At least these Indians are attempting to assimilate into American society. It seems many of them do not.

Im not disagreeing with you. But I don't know a single band parent that cares if you stay for halftime to watch them perform. Just don't stand in the section and chat across rows over our heads with your buddies while we're trying to watch our kids. It's simply a courtesy thing. No one's asking you to like it. Hell, do you think I'm gonna go to a marching band competition once my kids graduate, hell no.

Now that my kids can drive I leave most games after halftime anyways. Five score leads mean it's time for drinks.

Also, not exactly Houston. That's a Sugarland troop per their number. Sugarland's been Mumbai for 20 years. But hey at least they're trying to assimilate. Still need to turn off the spigot though and send any non-citizens home.

When you play in a district with North Shore, Atascocita, and Summer Creek, you get a lot of drinks in the 3rd quarter...and heck, we even made state quarters last year, but dang, that district is SEC ready.

It would be nice if they wore the uniform properly, at least tuck the shirt in. I realize kids forget the neckerchief often, but if you are going to wear a Class A, wear it properly.

You all speaking about population growth and white people numbers not going down and all this other noise are just idiots. Frisco is crap now. I work with tons of people from India and they're great, smart, work hard.

But GD, their yards look like crap. They don't weed their beds. They don't plant flowers. Their glass always looks bad. Mostly it just becomes weeds. Check out Turnbridge neighborhood on Independence just south of Rolator. Beautiful park. 4000 square foot houses. Some of them leave Diwali light up on their roofs all year. They halfway fall off their roofs and look so bad. Paint their house? We have neighbors - 15 years later. Not one painted. The chimneys are rotting.

There are 50 Indian restaurants in Frisco. There are 3 big mosques! That number is growing.

They're also doing some weird stuff with H1-Bs. There's a new shopping center on Rolater - Desi Chowrastha. Behind that they have like 30 small businesses that to me look like fraud going on. It's sketchy. Tiny offices. If you live here, go behind that restaurant and tell me what you see.

Great speech and it sucks to hear. Unfortunate truth. All of those companies she mentioned have one thing in mind and that's profit. They care about hiring cheaper labor and that's where H1B's come into play. R's and D's alike are to blame (we all are) when you see record profits and the stock market skyrocket it signals to those companies that what they are doing is clearly working. This is an unfortunate consequence.

F'ing A.

The homes with weed filled beds, stone bed borders knocked over, trees lining the street untrimmed that look like 25 feet tall bushes, empty garbage cans that sit in the street empty all week until they fill them with trash right before the truck arrives, etc. , are 100% Indians in my hood.

This is a nice neighborhood with homes ranging from $1.4M - $2.5M.

There are 3 that pay services to maintain very nice yards and beds, nicer than mine. The rest treat their homes like they live in a weekly rental trailer park with the trailers on blocks.

The HOA clearly has no teeth.

They also love to leave their garage doors open all day when they leave. Might as well have a sign that says "nobody watches, take what you want." It's only a matter of time before homes start getting burglarized. If you don't want rats, don't do anything that tempts them to come.

Don't use blinkers, don't know right of way, don't check mirrors before switching lanes, don't come close to driving the speed limit, don't know how to navigate medians.

Good to see more and more people coming to realize what I have said here for long.

US corporations are crooks. US politicians are crooks.

H1Bs are a convenient punching bag but they are not at fault. We let them in. H1Bs came here legally.

All the professional corporation boot-lickers will realize it when they lose their shirts to these scammy corporations.

Funny people here are blaming Indians for doing this or doing that.

Not too many have the courage to say corporations are shipping them in by bribing the politicians.

Sad.

Immigration/H1B is a federal issue, so there's only so much states can realistically do beyond restricting its use in public agencies.

Congress could end or massively overhaul the H1B program, but there's no bipartisan consensus, which is why these H1B reform bills introduced over the past several years tend to die in committee.

H1B itself came out of the Immigration Act of 1990 with bipartisan consensus, and any substantive changes would need that same kind of alignment, which just isn't there right now -- even Trump's relatively limited changes faced legal pushback.

So it's less about "no one having the stomach" and more that the political alignment just isn't there to do anything major.

I've seen H1B abuse firsthand, so I get the frustration and think the program needs to be ended.
Ozzy Osbourne
How long do you want to ignore this user?
You don't have to end the program, just change the quota of visa approvals to something much much smaller. I don't know if any legislation is required to do that.
