I wish I could find the article again, but it was talking about how slow playing the talks was not just to move assets into the area. Iran's leadership has been moving anything of value out of the country. They were pillaging every state resource that they could move. The thought was why slow them down? Let them rip apart their country and then chop it's head off.

With this line of thinking, who would be left to pay these people in America? If the leadership that told you to do something was no longer around, would they keep going? Who is going to pay them now? If you had a kush student life in America, why pop your head up for a regime that doesn't exists anymore?

I would agree with this line of thinking if you could expect radical Islamists to behave rationally like normal human beings. But being a radical Islamist by definition means that their motivations are likely entirely different than you would expect. Dying in jihad for the glory of Allah for instance may outweigh a cushy American lifestyle.

2025 was clearly negotiated. We didn't pursue the regime, we didn't attempt to really cripple them. We attacked nuclear sites pretty much exclusively. They responded with a theatrical retaliatory response.

If we really go after the regime, it will be interesting to see what they can do. Will they really empty their missile reserves? Will they attempt to close the strait? Will they use their proxies as much as they can?

Well it depends on what our goals are. Because what our elected officials say varies and what we are negotiating with them seems to also vary. If our goal is "regime change", which we have lately been implying, then it's going to take sustained air strikes over years while funding proxies until the government collapses (the Syria model). I don't think the Venezuelan model (assassinating or abducting the Ayatollah) will work because the next man up will not be any different. We could also theoretically accomplish regime change with an invasion (the Iraq model).

If our goal is no enrichment, then we could just continue to bomb their enrichment sites.

Israel's goal is regime change so I think we are going to go that route.

Our elites are compromised. This is not a good war for our nation.

Iran did NOT "get through" most of their missiles.

In the "June War" (Operation Rising Lion) of June 2025, the Iron Dome and Israel's broader multi-layered air defence systems (including Arrow and David's Sling)

maintained an overall success rate of approximately 86% to 90% against more than 500 Iranian ballistic missiles and 1,000 drones

See if you can find the data between when they changed the trajectory. I remember at the time they were getting more total missiles through after the change and were launching about a 1/10 of the previous amount

the reason "more" seemed to get through was that Iran was volley firing more ballistic missiles at one time

which overloaded the defenses.

all told, a small percentage of drones and missiles actually hit ANY target much less a military target.

a literal handful of 1000 drones and missiles actually hit a valid military target.

They were firing far less not more. And some of the air bases are even less protected that Israel, like the one in Jordan.
