everybody deals with stress differently. dark humor is a very big part of military service and helps them deal with the stress of the situations they face

Almost every IED or firefight that we were in, we laughed. You have to get the fire out some how. The only time we wouldn't is if one of our own was down, but there's no way any of those people knew if that got one of them or not. There's nothing wrong with what they did.

Interesting because most of us have probably read over the years that Iran would be challenging in the water because their little fast attack boats would give our larger ships hell. I believe I've see war game outcomes where this was the case.

That all seems to have been bull***** I was always skeptical anyway. If you can't get your boats out of port in the first place, then there is not much threat on the water.

That could be true if the ships were in the Persian Gulf, but they're not, they in the Arabian Sea, much more room to maneuver and in open conflict, the gunboats can't get close without being destroyed.

As others have posted, tense situation and likely a way of letting off steam. The missile didn't appear to hit anything of consequence other than maybe some porta potties. The laughter seemed to be along the lines of "you missed, morons!!"

But is attacking the French vessel really bringing them into it? I doubt Macron has much appetite to respond in any way other than a strongly worded letter or speech.

Edit, I will put that on politics.

Edit 2: surprised to see the Brits supporting the Qatari's here, but they signed a contract to do so I guess last year. Clever way for Starmer to be quasi useful I guess without supporting anything Trump does.

Is a ballistic missile even a realistic weapon to use to target an aircraft carrier? My understanding is it takes several minutes between launch and missile strike and I didn't think these missiles could correct course once theyre on a downward trajectory, thus the term ballistic missile. Couldn't the aircraft carrier just move? I also thought that Iran's ballistic missiles weren't exactly accurate.
