I can't link it because the interview just happened. But look up the interview with the kid who scored the winning goal in ot.

It was all for the country, so proud of the USA, etc.

A nice change from the skiers and figure skaters trashing their own country.

Hockey players from the US are overwhelmingly conservative, for the same reasons a majority of professional American baseball players and golfers are conservative. They're all high barrier to entry sports.

Daughter played volleyball. Every now and again there would be a tournament in one of those big sports centers that had ice rinks and we got to watch parents hauling in wagonloads of gear for their hockey kids.

Been there, done that! I've got a great story about what happens when teams of 15-16 year old boys are staying in the same hotel as 15-16 year old girls for tournaments. Don't want to derail thread. Another time, maybe.

Pretty cool story on Brock Nelson

Brock Nelson (Colorado Avalanche/NY Islanders) carries a historic Team USA Hockey legacy into the 2026 Winter Olympics in Milan, marking a three-generation family tradition of Olympic excellence. He follows his grandfather, Bill Christian (1960 gold), and uncle, Dave Christian (1980 "Miracle on Ice" gold), both of whom are Olympic gold medalists from Warroad, Minnesota.

The Nelson/Christian Family Legacy
  • Grandfather (Bill Christian): Member of the 1960 U.S. Olympic team that won the nation's first-ever gold medal in Squaw Valley.
  • Great Uncle (Roger Christian): Member of the 1960 U.S. Olympic gold medal team.
  • Uncle (Dave Christian): Played on the legendary 1980 "Miracle on Ice" team that won gold in Lake Placid.
  • Great Uncle (Gordon Christian): Won silver in the 1956 Olympic Games.
  • Brock Nelson: A 34-year-old forward appearing in his second Olympic Games in 2026, looking to add to this legacy.
2026 Olympic Context
  • Nelson was named to the 2026 U.S. roster, continuing the legacy by competing in the first Olympics with NHL players in 12 years.
  • He scored two goals in the 2026 Olympic opener against Latvia, wearing number 29 to honor his family's history.
  • The 2026 tournament highlights his aim to join his family in winning Olympic gold, a feat only accomplished by his family members in men's USA hockey history.

The 1980 men's hockey victory was after 3 years of Jimmy Carter destroying the American farmer, the energy industry, the military. Living with double digit inflation and interest rates, and in the fourth month of Iran taking over our embassy and holding diplomats hostage..

People chanting "USA" in 1980 were definitely not celebrating the worst presidency of the 20th century (after Wilson)

They were celebrating the country, in spite of who was flying on AF1 at the time.

A concept that is lost on wimpy, deranged leftists

That win in 1980 literally changed the world. We were able to finally show the Soviets that we could beat them in anything, even what they were best at. And Reagan ran with the message of American exceptionalism and never looked back. The Berlin Wall was gone by the end of the decade and the Soviets were done by 1991.

If I read a news headline, and I see an elementary school level word word like "Yucky", I appreciate seeing it.

It lets me know not to waste another second on any content.

Can you imagine how some of the resident libtards that regularly get their little brains bashed in here are feeling this morning? Normals celebrating Americans winning while also preparing for church with their familieswhile they couldn't watch Meet the Press because of the Olympics showing said American win over the country they wanted to win today, while petting their cats…

This is why we have watched hardly any of the Olympics this year. We don't want our kids to see all of those a-hole athletes bleeding their gender ideologies and anti-American rhetoric, and think that they are people to look up to.

I am a former North Texas volunteer hockey coach and one of the US Women Hockey Olympians I got to coach in summer league when she was 8-9 years old.

Seeing USA Hockey sweep gold from Canada in both Men and Women's hockey is a dream. In the context of the current political malaise with Canada, and coming a year after Trudeau's trash talking, it's even sweeter.

But the Jack Hughes interview after the game was AMAZING.

The tribute to the late Johnny Gaudreau also was touching as well.

What a great day for hockey. But mostly, what a great day for AMERICA.

Hockey in the United States is a bastion of mostly patriotic and conservative people and a great sport.

If I was a billionaire I would donate the millions and millions needed to get TAMU NCAA men's and women's hockey teams.

Shortly after WWII, one of my father's Canadian aunts came to visit my parents in Austin. She lectured them about how the Americans would not have been successful winning the war in Europe without help from the superior Canadian troops. She said this knowing that my father was an American veteran and his brother (serving in the US Army) was KIA in Germany on 7 April 1945. I thought this woman was an anomaly, but perhaps there are many of them.

It's true that the Canadians were badass in World War II, but obviously they weren't essential.
