Is early voting in Texas a warning of things to come?

If Grok is correct, we had the following early voting totals.
2022: ~Dem 625k, Rep 1,026k
2018: ~465,000 for Democrats and ~420,000 for Republicans

There's still a lot of time left in the primaries, but you have to wonder how much republicans should be concerned for the general election later this year.

Republicans in Congress have done absolutely nothing. That doesn't inspire voters who elected Trump with a huge mandate in 2024. They're an impotent party and they probably will get their teeth kicked in.

They refuse to do what they're elected to do.

Or how many GOP voted in the dem primary, just to be a disrupter. Did it back in 2008 when I voted for Obama just to erase a Clinton vote.

First it's always been the case that dims are more likely to vote early, and republicans more likely to vote on Election Day.

Add in that in the senate race in particular, we have a massively unpopular senator, going against a massively unpopular challenger.

I will vote for the republican nominee in the general, but I'm not really motivated to give a crap about the primary.

I think it's because many of the Republican positions are pretty much set, especially at the top spots.

I think GOP is in big trouble. Judging by many on here they are clueless as to why

No, it means nothing whatsoever.

If one looks at the map, most of the counties with higher turnout for both parties are the same (a few exceptions here and there).

Since several of the largest, and thus heavily Democrat counties are having high turnout, no surprise Democrats are getting more votes.

I would also guess a lot of Republicans haven't made up their minds yet.

Other then the Senate race, the Democrats probably don't really care about anything else, and likely most of their voters already know which candidate they're voting for.

Not enough to make any appreciable difference.

Congrats on the Obama vote.

Too soon to tell on EV In my opinion. Let's see the final primary totals.

Most folks only base opinions on what makes headlines and news and have no idea the many bills that get passed on the federal, state and local level that make a real difference in people's lives but never make headlines. Do you have an idea how many bills have been voted on and passed in the Texas legislature or your local government besides the 100's in the federal level this year?

People not voting in primaries is how crappy candidates end up running for offices. Lots of people have died for our right to vote.
It's the Duty of a citizen to be informed and educated on all candidates and vote on the local, state and federal levels.
If not, then no right to complain.

Whoever the GOP nominee is, will win by 5-8% points in the general. Y'all can stop wetting the bed…no Democrat is going to win the Senate race, or the gubernatorial one as well.

The Dems are undoubtedly super-inspired by their candidates for the Senate. Republicans aren't voting because they intend to vote Dem this time around too in November. Who wouldn't jump at this rare opportunity to elect either of these highly intelligent, honest candidates who will actually fix our country.

They have an outstanding white gentleman and POC woman who have long lists of ideas for how they will improve all of America. These are truly exciting times with such a positive outlook for our future.

Lol, what an embarrassment that this is the best and brightest the Dems have to offer.

Because the unspoken truth of vast majority of today's Republican party is that they would rather be in the minority and be able to fundraise off of all the things they would do if only they had a majority versus be in the majority and actually get stuff done.

Hate to agree with that, but the evidence shows your unspoken truth is correct. It is shameful.

Ron DeSantis has been damn close to it in Florida since 2018, record speaks for itself.

As to the OP it is a small sign of enthusiasm among the base but it's irrelevant. These are very small numbers and have no real bearing on the General. Dems are in their excited mode of dreaming of making Talarico into Beto or they love them some Crockett.

Does that mean there is nothing to worry about? Wouldn't go that far but close to it. Texas is still a +10-14 GOP state so a lot more has to go right for the Dems and wrong for the GOP to get worried. Last Dem to win statewide was 1994 and they have had far better candidates with far better environments than this one.

My wife and I decided today to vote in the Democratic Primary because we have severa local races that will be decided in that primary. Our 2 votes in that one primary can have more of an impact than in a state wide race. Before we made that decision we looked at the Democratic ballot. Easy call for us to decide that we will vote in the local races only and not even participate in the state wide Democratic races.

Admittedly, I'm less enthused this time than I've been in years. The Republicans led another bloated session in the Texas legislature this year and passed a disastrous school choice bill that will be used to control curriculum for home schools and private schools for years. Nationally, the party is feckless and spent way too much time and money on Israel and Ukraine instead of domestic issues.

I want to see Abbott, Patrick, and Cornyn gone and I'm happy to vote for their challengers. Reitz will do great at carrying on Paxton's legacy, but the Ag Commissioner position has an Abbott endorsee and a crook, so I left it blank.

The SREC went weak and Abbott didn't follow through with his promise to close the Primaries so we'll get RINOs again. I want to believe but the Rs just keep letting us down.

Besides a million executive orders very little has been accomplished. Sure we hear all the reasons yet when Dems have the same margins it's not the same story.
