I remember on the math I missed one. My score was like 780 or something.

Then there were those ****ing analogies. __ is to __ as __ is to __. This country bumpkin usually knew 2 of the 4 words. My score was around 400, if that, on that part.

There is a reason I'm an engineer.

Graduated at the top of my high school class in the 80s. My SAT was not super-impressive, 12-something. I only really planned on attending A&M, so I wasn't really concerned about it.

Initially I didn't get any scholarship offers from A&M. I figure the offers initially went out to the National Merit Scholars, who applied to A&M along with dozens of other schools but never actually planned to attend. Eventually those offers were declined, and they got to my name on the list.

I wound up with Lechner Fellowship, $6000 that pretty much covered four years of tuition and books.

I always hated that multiple choice where you had two or three clear answers. Then you had two that were saying a&b a&c, none of the above. Etc.

Sometimes you knew one of them was right, but you weren't sure about the other one so do you pick the flat out answer or do you pick c. a&b.

I inevitably picked the wrong one usually or do the dreaded changing my answer thing from the correct one to the wrong one.

Standardized tests pissed me off. The more straightforward questions were fine and at least on the essays you could sometimes BS way through.

The nightmare was that stupid army/militsry/whatever test. Had different subjects.

One was to look at a line full of o's and c's and tell how many c's there are.

Lines and lines. I felt like I was being tortured. So I started just marking answers.

Well, my score fell into the range that had me as a prime candidate for enlistment. Not genius and not borderline ******ed. The recruiting dude met with me twice and set up a third before I said to leave me alone.
