A vital partner in the region suffered collateral damage because of a conflict we initiated. We are considering compensating them for the damage as an act of good will to further strengthen a coalition that could dramatically change the region for good.

What are people acting like they don't understand this?

I like this guy's videos. If his take is correct though, we are not winning.

Preston Stewart is Ukraine biased and hates President Trump so take what he says with a grain of salt and know his biases.

He's definitely pro-Ukraine, anti-Russia. But I never got the vibe that he was anti-Trump. I felt he gave praise when it was due and called people out when necessary. Regardless, I don't feel like anything he said in his video is incorrect.

His podcast "Unclassified" is pure one sided, anti Trump about geopolitics. his partner doing most of the snot slinging but Preston goes along with it.

I have not heard the podcast, just watched the YouTube channel. He finds and presents obscure reports that you don't hear on the MSM, and I think he makes a reasonable assessment of it.

It is problematic if someone doesn't listen to on side of the news because they think the guy presenting it doesn't like their guy in office.

The strait was open prior to us initiating this conflict also! So
are we going to compensate everyone that is losing money because of this too?

If you can't understand the difference between paying higher oil prices and having your buildings hit by bombs and missiles then I doubt we can have a productive conversation on the topic.

Color me skeptical it would take that long. Other nations have minesweepers too and incentives to reopen the Strait ASAP.

Also from what I understand mining the straight is particularly difficult because of the topography and currents. Not an expert there however.

My understanding is the type of mine makes a huge difference. Back in 1988 when the Iranians mined the strait, those were not held in place just drifted into other shipping lanes. Which is how one our naval ships hit one.

Since then, they have developed a tether type system with sensors that release it when a ship is passing overhead, or something like that.

Huh thats weird, I was told 2 pages ago that I'm a gaslit sucker for believing those reports, now the President himself says its under consideration. I wonder if there will be any crow eaten?

You'd think by now people would 'get' extemporaneous Trump. I really hope people don't make investment decisions, etc based on a 30 minute, off the cuff interview with the Prez.

Well, it looks like they could have closed it at any time then...

They just hadn't decided to yet.

But, when they have 100K missiles and 50K drones and close it (let alone a nuke), NOW what do you do?

The concept here is to make it so they can't hold the strait hostage EVER...

Ah there it is.....the real story behind the headlines

UAE to Trump Administration: "You started this war; if we run short of USDs as a result of it, either you will give us USD swap lines, or we will be forced to start transacting oil and gas in CNY and other currencies." -WSJ

For the slow kids.... "CNY primarily stands for the Chinese Yuan, the official currency of the People's Republic of China, often abbreviated as RMB (Renminbi) and symbolized by or . It is commonly used in international banking and forex markets to denote the Chinese currency. "

It has not happened yet. If it does happen, it will be a currency swap like we did for Argentina. We make money on those. Google is your friend...or you can just whine at any headline published.

I'm sure you would have goaltended the same for biden

Had this been going on in the Biden admin, you wouldn't have known about it. Biden was catatonic and unable to speak on financial or any other issues. As for the vehicle used; if a D was in power, it would have never been reported this dishonest way.
“It was miraculous. It was almost no trick at all, he saw, to turn vice into virtue and slander into truth, impotence into abstinence, arrogance into humility, plunder into philanthropy, thievery into honor, blasphemy into wisdom, brutality into patriotism, and sadism into justice. Anybody could do it; it required no brains at all. It merely required no character.”

Cool...

Get a buttload of CNY as China slowly bleeds due to lack of cheap Iranian oil...

If the petro dollar collapses, the US is in big trouble. The dollar has the purchasing power it does mostly because of the petro dollar. We won't be able to afford oil if demand for dollars isn't there. China, on the other hand, would be able to out bid us for oil.

I guess good thing we have Venezuelan oil, and Texas.

That is the biggest IF in the entire world.

If you think the rest of the world would abandon the US economy to support the Chinese economy, I want to meet your dealer and get some of the stuff you're smoking...

China's economy exists largely because the US buys **** tons of cheap Chinese *****

Good thing we have our own oil and are largely energy independent and can be fully energy independent if we wanted to be. Also another reason why owning the western hemisphere is the strategic move to make right now.

China has to buy all of theirs. We make ours.

Agreed nobody cares about soccer. Bigger issue is Meloni never was on board with attacking Iran.

Trump speaking again repeatedly saying Iran's military is completely decimated with no Navy or Air Force.

I have yet heard anyone ask him what makes Iran different at this point than the Taliban that didn't have a Navy or Air Force?

I remember the pearl clutching when West and East Germany were reunifying was about also rebuilding their military. Germany might have been able to stand up a military back then. But now?

Tusk can piss right off. I think he faces defeat electorally this year anyway. Maybe not. Iran conflict has once again shown (I guess on a daily basis) that our Nato-member rivals are not our allies.

Do you really believe that us attacking Iran because they were maybe going to have a nuclear weapon meets the criteria for Nato article 5 to be invoked? I don't.

I never stated anything (here or elsewhere) about Article 5. It's irrelevant to the discussion (outside of Turkey and Greece, as well as Diego Garcia (the UK) being attacked by Iranian missiles. Those attacks being collectively waived off by Nato betrayed yet again how feckless and pointless the whole organization is).

Europe is run by TDS-suffering cowards who are also raging hypocrites. That's my point.

The political impact of the conflict is that this has been made crystal clear, and our diplomatic posture should adjust accordingly (which I anticipate it will).

That's not surprising. I sort of understood the concerns during the reunification because East Germany was heavily militarized by the Soviets. (Or so was the conventional wisdom back then. Probably was just as much a paper tiger back then as well.)

But I also think Germany will face the same dilemma the UK is, not enough for a volunteer force and conscription would include migrants lacking allegiance to Germany.
