And like John McCain and Mitch McConnell, they're not really on the R side. McConnell is on the CCP side, just like Joe Biden was.

Paxton v Talarico (if that is where we end up) is going to bring in a ton of D $. It might be worth it just to watch that money vaporize. I don't think they'll spend as much going after Cornyn.
Why is Cornyn going to have an easier time in the general election?
Statistically, incumbents always have an advantage.

You and I are talking to different independents.
Wes97 said:
Most people that post on this board define independents as college educated upper middle class people that run in their same social circle. That is also how they define "moderates" too, interestingly enough. If that is how you define independent/moderate, then yes, Cornyn is obviously the favorite.
But in the real world, off of the internet, that segment of the population is very small. There are a lot more independents in the non-college educated crowd out there and they tend to not be fans of old school big money Republicanism that define the most important issues as social liberalism, a neoconservative global foreign policy, and cutting capital gains and the highest marginal tax rates.

He says what he needs to during election season, but go back and check how he actually governs. Do not trust anything Cornyn says during elections.ravingfans said:
I spoke with Cornyn tonight on his town hall.
I said this is the most pivotal election in my lifetime, and we must do what it takes to win. Asked him what he is willing to commit to do on securing a vote for the SAVE Act and overcoming the filibuster.
He said the filibuster is not sacrosanct and he is working to and confident he can get the act to the senate floor for a vote. His main concern is whether all the R's will vote to support it and that he is working that.
Said something about the Talking Filibuster. I need to read up on that.
Other callers asked about what he could do to stop sharia law--I don't think he had a crisp answer on that and mainly talked about deporting illegals and states like Texas creating laws to block.
Plenty other topics--I did not take notes...

Wesley Hunt got my vote. FJCornyn, I met him in high school back in 2002 near the Galleria in Dallas as the president of the teenage republicans from my high school and he was a ***** even then. Holier than thou, Lip Service D-bag.
Gonna vote for Paxton to shake up the circus.

His record and comments speak for themselves. He's often on the wrong side.
Paxton is no more immoral than this charlatan. Cornyn doesn't even represent his own constituents. There is nothing he can point to that would justify his getting my vote.

I voted for Cornyn in the primary as I think he had a much better chance of beating the dem than Paxton. Recently the R's have a bad history of nominating poor candidates that then go on lose winnable seats, and this looked to be the same thing.
But the SAVE Act has been a real eye opener. If the R senate leadership can't get something through with over 80% approval then they are beyond useless. And they clearly do NOT want to pass it.
So at this point it's simple to me. DC is about horse trading, and if it means getting the SAVE act in exchange for Cornyn staying, I'll take that deal.
But it MUST pass the senate and be on Trump's desk by the runoff. If not (don't care why) I'm all in on Paxton.
π¨ HOLY SMOKES. President Trump just LIT A FIRE under Senate Leader John Thune, demanding he "BE A LEADER" and go get the votes for the SAVE America Act
— Eric Daugherty (@EricLDaugh) March 11, 2026
Q: Thune says he doesn't have the votes.
TRUMP: "Well, HE'S GOTTA BE A LEADER! If he's the leader, he's gotta get 'em!"
