For those who don't know, 'being crucified with Christ' and 'dying to self' are common phrases in Christianity. It stems from Paul, who writes to the Galatians (2:20), "I have been crucified with Christ; it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me."

It's the basic tenant of our faith, which says we turn away from our former sinful self (ie. it has died), we're reborn (saved by Christ's death), and we now live for Christ. It's the Gospel message...it's Christianity.

It would be difficult to find a pastor alive, who isn't familiar with these phrases. If you could find one, I'd suggest he's not a Christian pastor, because he wouldn't know/understand the faith he supposedly teaches, or he's purposefully being deceitful.

...which brings us to Talarico.

Talarico apparently doesnt know/understand Christianity 101, or more likely...decided to twist the meaning of basic scripture to bash Christians, yet again.

can someone point me to the stats for all the thousands (millions?) of people killed in the name of Christian nationalism in the past few years?

I know it's a vary scary and emotional existential threat to socialists. I just can't find the murders or the violence from it in the news. ...but we do live in two completely different worlds so maybe CNN has good reliable stats on the Christian National murderers out there.

Keep in mind a leftist will always presume and use the most politically useful Interpretation of any statement and completely out of context if they can. They will grossly deviate from context, common meaning, and pick the worst possible interpretation to use for anything a conservative might state.

This is exactly it. A Christian pastor would not do this, but a politician would run over their grandmother to do it. It's just confirmation of what he really is and what his "faith" really is - a prop.

If that's the case, he isn't doing it very well. Beto at least had a youthful appeal and knew to keep things as generic and non-committal as possible. This guy is just flat out awkward, which isn't going motivate the Dem base, and has been more honest about his actual views which are far from the middle. He's banking on people hating Trump so much that they'll vote for him even though he contradicts the views of most voters in Texas.

Not sure if this you talking, or you are paraphrasing what Talarico said, but Gabriel didn't give Mary a choice. Mary's quote is an acknowledgment of God's purpose for her.

Just to be clear, a pastor should know this intimately which is evidence that Talarico is a dishonest liar in that particular case as he is in this one too.

There are a lot of distasteful adjectives I could cast upon various lefty archetypes, but the 'scripture twisting pastor' earns 'loathsome' from me.

I'm hoping this is just because we don't have a GOP nominee yet and a lot of people are non-committal. I wish Trump would get off his ass and endorse one of them. The other needs to do the right thing and drop out, but, I know that won't happen.

I guess the plan all along has been to dumb us down and get control. this has been mentioned here for years. I can't believe what politicians get away with saying-- and also how what they say doesn't amount to much more than 6th grade rhetoric . People are so easily led and ignorant and gullible.
