I actually know a number of people who just drive cross country. They take shifts as a family or group of friends. Many just rent cars to not put the mileage on their own vehicles. And these are not LOL poor types.
For example, Texas to Florida is not bad at all, especially if you have a teen or two that can drive. And scenic along the Gulf of America.
No bailouts for Airlines, especially the ****ty ones. Why should the American taxpayer subsidize people trips to Vegas for people who shouldn't be going there in the first place. Drive or don't go.
My ex boss did this with her husband and three kids for their annual trip to Florida. Main reason was time with family but now it's flight prices for 5 round trip vs renting a car for a week and a hotel stay somewhere in MS is better.

Oof, what a mess. United and American in merger talks, now this. Might soon be cheaper to call NetJets than fly commercial

Do you really want their customers on YOUR flight?

But then their customers will bring the ghetto to other airlines if Spirit isn't there.

The government should allow an expedited merger of Allegiant, Frontier,Jet Blue and Spirit
And should not allow a merger of United Airlines and American Airlines

Southwest is already headed down that road. Their hedge fund investor that is forcing all the big changes on them seems bound and determined to turn them into the next Spirit nickel and dimeing their customers with fees for everything.

Then those who travel on Spirit will fly with the rest of us. No thanks.
