Does JetBlue perform better with less competition from spirit or is it more a factor of costs/debt load for jet blue?

My ex boss did this with her husband and three kids for their annual trip to Florida. Main reason was time with family but now it's flight prices for 5 round trip vs renting a car for a week and a hotel stay somewhere in MS is better.
FTR, this isn't news. Those of us that grew up in the 70s and 80s didn't fly commercial for vacation. We drove the family truckster. We drove to Florida every summer from Texas for vacation. One year we drove from Texas to the Smokey Mountains. Another year we drove from Texas to California and took US66.
SWA democratized the skies over the course of the 90s making air travel affordable for the masses so this is a pretty recent phenomenon to travel via air like everyone does.
Not a single dime for a bailout. If they can't operate any longer, then fold up.

I don't know about that. I used to be willing to pay slightly higher fares with Southwest bc of their customer service and no bag fees. But now that they're charging bag fees and customer service has gone in the toilet, they're STILL usually on the higher end of fare prices. So I don't fly with them at all anymore. They'd have to come down a LOT on their prices to be considered affordable enough to take the clientele that typically flies Spirit.
