Re: networks for job placement.

USAID was gutted and as a result, so were many of the consulting firms that benefited from the grift.

So these people have no network any more. It's all been upended. They are now no different than the many flyover Americans they use to laugh at.

My entire work life I have been in danger of being laid off, as has my wife, and we have both been shot in the back of the head a few times and never because of performance. A lot of industries and professions operate cyclically with little buffer so you have to look out for yourself. That means living below your means, always showing value, and keeping your skills fresh in case it happens or you see a better opportunity.

It's called the "real world" where most Americans exist unlike NYT idiots and worthless DC bureaucrats who seem to think that they are entitled to lifetime employment with increasing salaries and benefits and a great retirement program with no expectations of actually being productive. It never ceases to amaze me how these people really think someone like this is a sympathetic character. It's not quite as bad as the former pro athlete who made millions but blew it all on having an entourage and buying 6 cars while never saving a dime but it's not that different either.

I remember when I was in school the tradeoff was always presented as "work in education or the government and you get more security but less pay". Then gradually because of public sector unions and corrupt politicians that flipped to where working in federal government especially allowed you to actually make more than the private sector but still get the security. That's how the system collapses because you are encouraging people quite literally to be a cost to society instead of being a productive force for society. It would be like paying your HR Department more than Sales.

How could you not know that the "grifting market" in DC is cutthroat, off the charts, and the most grifty of grifty places in all of the U.S..? It is not Des Moines, Iowa. Dishonest work is hard to come by these days, unless you are a somali. sheesh.

P.s. Let's not fight; let's all just bask in the warmth of all the schadenfreude this firing and all those faux NGO firings are producing.

Never heard of Penzey's until a close friend of ours gave us a gift box of their spices plus a $25 gift card. Went to their web site and had a good laugh. That guy is bat sheet crazy!

My father was USAF Civ Service and he told me throughout his career that he could have made more money in the private sector (he could've - he was in IT before it was called IT) but stayed with USAF b/c he wanted us to be able to stay where we were (his childhood involved moving every 2 years). The last 20 years that equation has flipped - as government jobs were handed out disproportionately via intersectionality and became simple patronage. DOGE only got a few of these jobs - it will take decades to dump it all - and we all know that isn't going to happen.Still, I will absolutely celebrate madame spice's new career.

Penzey's are very good spices, especially their blends. As a foodie, they were impressive. As a cheap Dame, they were too expensive. As a conservative, they were BSC leftists who should have kept their mouths shut and I might have continued to order a few now and then.

No thanks, I'll stick with Fiesta now.

I had a non-profit reach out to me when I was still in Oregon about a position that was relevant to my experience so decided to interview just for fun. It actually ended up seeming like an interesting gig and I asked about compensation and they said they were thinking $275k-$325k. (Wow!)

During the second interview it seemed to be going well until one person brought up my Texas background and it soured from there even though I had direct relationships with people at the agencies they were wanting to work with.

I didn't get the job, I was probably a little too ginger.

If only you had shaved your head!

Seriously though, that is a lot of damn money. Insane.

Checking my math...272k/2080 = 130/hr govt vs 19/hr private.

This lady was working for a non-profit funded by USAID. The grift ended because of the GOAT and now she is left without income and skills. She was offered a job - that is obviously below her - at $19/hr at Penzey's Spice store (which is a hardcode liberal company btw). Why does Penzey's not pay more? Libs?

NY Times doing good work here.

$272k??????????????????

WTF man. I've never made that much and I am sure I am much more capable than she is. I should have gone into non-profits, I would have been a bazillionaire today.

apparently you are unfamiliar with the salaries of college presidents:

  • Stephen Klasko (Thomas Jefferson University) topped the list at over $8.4 million in total compensation despite an 87% acceptance rate, far exceeding presidents of far more selective schools.
  • Carol L. Folt (USC) received $3,696,442 in 2022.
  • Paula S. Wallace (SCAD) received $2,710,704 in 2022, reflecting her four-decade tenure and transformation of the institution.
  • Amy Gutmann (former Penn president) had an exceptionally high figure because her contract included a deferred compensation plan depositing $1.12 million annually into an account accessible only after 18 years of tenure a retention incentive.
  • Lawrence Bacow (Harvard) earned over $1.3 million in 2021, while Princeton's president made just over $1 million

NGO non-profits. Democrat money laundering operations.

Most non-profits are not lucrative at all. Even a huge organization like the Salvation Army doesn't have anyone paid that much, and it is a legitimate non-profit charity.

But society has no shame any longer

I have a feeling she didn't realize there was anything unusual about her life at all. The folks who started the NGO knew they were grifting, but she may have actually thought she was doing big things, just like all the other high paid execs in the business world.

    But I could be wrong.

The backlash that these liberal media sob stories inspire is much deserved. Most Americans recognize that these DC elites have long been immune to the forces that impact the rest of us while they enjoyed scamming our tax dollars to support their lifestyles and politics.

I worked in management for a large non-profit in Austin for about 6 months. Took the job because I was moving and they gave me the best offer at the time. I left because I could not stand the stupid amounts of red tape and sheer incompetence of most of the employees. The people you hire at non-profits are mostly bottom of the barrel who couldn't make it in the private sector and are working there because they have no other options.

Got outta there when I had a better opportunity come up and don't miss being part of that money drain. Most non-profits, especially government funded, are as bloated and useless as the government itself.

I've been thru numerous RIFs, probably 10-11. Got nailed in one of them because I would not transfer. Most got RIFed; I got offered a transfer or hit the road. Seen many friends get nailed. That is normal in our world.

It should be normal in the Federal government world too. There are many more like her still employed by the Federal government not doing a ****ing thing!

MANY non-profits, and almost 100% of them that only exist due to government funding, their Sr. Level officers and C-suite make an OBSCENE amount of $$$, while doing very little work and accomplishing very little. Most of them they don't truly care about the purported mission of their non-profit, they care about their paycheck and benefits. This woman is a classic example just one of many thousands.

I have reviewed audited F/S and met with C-suite members at numerous non-profits and the whole thing is obscene propped up by USAID and other federal govt. BS programs.

On the banner of the web page they have a link right next to "About us" called "About Republicans". It's quite the manifesto, summarized by this gem:
    ----------------------------------------------------------------
Going forward we would still be glad to have you as customers, but we're done pretending the Republican Party's embrace of cruelty, racism, Covid lies, climate change denial, and threats to democracy are anything other than the risks they legitimately are. If you need us to pretend you are not creating the hurt you are creating in order for you to continue to be our customer, I'm sad to say you might be happier elsewhere.
