My entire work life I have been in danger of being laid off, as has my wife, and we have both been shot in the back of the head a few times and never because of performance.

Me too.

Laid off once due to an Anderson Consulting study. Again due to an acquisition. Again when a partnership dissolved. And then again due to an acquisition, this time a distant holding company deal that led to duplicate offices in Houston.

It was always traumatic and challenging.

The backlash that these liberal media sob stories inspire is much deserved. Most Americans recognize that these DC elites have long been immune to the forces that impact the rest of us while they enjoyed scamming our tax dollars to support their lifestyles and politics.

I've been thru numerous RIFs, probably 10-11. Got nailed in one of them because I would not transfer. Most got RIFed; I got offered a transfer or hit the road. Seen many friends get nailed. That is normal in our world.

It should be normal in the Federal government world too. There are many more like her still employed by the Federal government not doing a ****ing thing!

I've worked in the tech industry for 20+ years and at least half the people I know whether it's Cisco, HP, Dell, Palo Alto Networks, Fortinet, MS, Apple, IBM, etc. have all been hit with an RiF.

Sometimes people have hit their numbers for years, but somebody wanted to shake up a territory or vertical and there wasn't a place for them.

When people were bellyaching about DOGE last year, it fell on deaf ears.

In the real world you can be a casualty through no fault of your own.

People were acting like every single government employee held the fate of the world in their hands and a reduction of one person would send our country spiraling.

I honestly feel more for a welfare queen getting her SNAP reduced more than I do an NGO losing their $272k/year job

You make a good point.

It's not her fault, someone offered her 272k and she took it. I would do the same. The system itself is effed up where someone thought it was okay to blow up so much public money on this.

I differ on you on a small issue that people who don't pay IT are the issue here, it is not. It is just the people enjoying a great life on public money.

Why are you happy that some people are unemployed for so long? This just means more debt, more foreclosures, more homeless and more unemployment welfare paid out from our tax money.

If you haven't looked, the job market is sheet right now. It's hard to even get a burger flipper job much less HVAC and plumber gigs.

The administration is lying about job numbers.

It demonstrates that the no-skill, worthless class that operated within USAID was nothing but a leech on our tax dollars. They have no discernible skills that make them a valuable contributor to society. Time for them to do something with their lives besides suck the taxpayers dry.

The bolded part is absolutely BS. My business partner has literally had a posting for two HVAC techs and two installation teams for his commercial AC/Heating company for over six months. He is booked until summer '27 with jobs. He is turning away business.

My best friend, who is a plumber, is booked out until the end of the year.

Just because someone couldn't get a job for a year doesn't mean they are no skill and worthless. This is a horrific take and shows lack of empathy for human beings. Yes, it could mean so but it in most cases it is because the job market is crap and has been sold out to foreigners. My entire work life I have been in danger of being laid off, as has my wife, and we have both been shot in the back of the head a few times and never because of performance. A lot of industries and professions operate cyclically with little buffer so you have to look out for yourself. That means living below your means, always showing value, and keeping your skills fresh in case it happens or you see a better opportunity.

It's called the "real world" where most Americans exist unlike NYT idiots and worthless DC bureaucrats who seem to think that they are entitled to lifetime employment with increasing salaries and benefits and a great retirement program with no expectations of actually being productive. It never ceases to amaze me how these people really think someone like this is a sympathetic character. It's not quite as bad as the former pro athlete who made millions but blew it all on having an entourage and buying 6 cars while never saving a dime but it's not that different either.

I remember when I was in school the tradeoff was always presented as "work in education or the government and you get more security but less pay". Then gradually because of public sector unions and corrupt politicians that flipped to where working in federal government especially allowed you to actually make more than the private sector but still get the security. That's how the system collapses because you are encouraging people quite literally to be a cost to society instead of being a productive force for society. It would be like paying your HR Department more than Sales.

Yep. That little layoff cloud always hangs over my head being in O&G. It never goes away.

Hell, I've been laid off twice in an industry I thought was relatively safe. I almost feel like everyone should get laid off at least once so they can learn that lesson and get it over with.

I seem to recall a certain "learn to code" quip while the liberals were destroying blue-collar jobs. I was laid off during that time. So my empathy is offered at the same level of empathy I received from the left back then.

I started my career working in chicken farms with a college degree. That's where I started, but I worked my ass off into a white-collar job.

If I had kids, given the demand for HVAC and plumbers, you're ****ing right, I'd push them towards that career path. Early 20s, earning 70-80k/yr with no six-figure college loan debt! Within three years they'd be able to sit for their own professional license to start their own company. Sign me the **** up!

I would too. I hire a lot of blue collar workers and I can tell you that after their 4 year apprenticeship($43.00hr), an electrician in our shop will come on at $63.18/hr. Go over to the lineman side and you are at $63.90/hr. Not many of those engineers/finance are making that kind of cheese after 4 years of college along with their loans to pay off.... HVAC? Don't even get me started, that is where the real money is in my neck of the woods.

One of the issues we have had in the past two decades is a devaluing of the trades versus getting a degree in something that does not lead to a well paying job. So, now a kid graduates with a degree and massive college debt but with a job that may not be sufficient to offset the debt and life's cost. Not that we should turn colleges into trade schools, but families need to understand that just getting any degree may not lead to prosperity. I had a welding company rep tell me that he goes into high schools to promote welding saying that he can take a kid out of high school, teach them to weld and get to where they are a certified welder. Thatthey can make 6 figures within 3 to 4 years. The demand is there for trades.

We can thank the Kenyan for making it super easy to borrow too much money, and the Dem higher-education machine for hyping the shame in blue collar work and the expectation that every kid needs a diploma no matter how useless it is. (Oh yeah, we'll go ahead and brainwash the stupid kids while they're in school and taxpayers will pay for that too).

Like every single damn thing they do, at the root it's about money, votes and power. Got to hand it to them, they are very good at stealing our money and carrying out all of these schemes.

FILTHY LIB

About Republicans
As we've now said on our first-ever
About Us page on our website, there's something unique about humankind's relationship with spices that time and again have caused spices to be a driving force for change. We live in a time calling out for change and for solutions to the very real problems our country and our planet face. There's two very different futures ahead for us totally dependent on whether we solve these problems or not. With so much at stake we feel obligated to use the unique position spices hold in our lives to try to help promote the solutions to these problems as best we can.
Watching the slow decline of the Republican Party over the last half century, and the steep decline/bottom falling out over the last decade, it can be easy to see the nonsense that has overtaken the party as pretty much random. Once you start seriously looking at the problems America and the world face and who and what are standing in the way of solving those problems, it quickly becomes clear there is nothing random to what the Republicans are promoting.
The Republican departure from conservative values and embrace of what, from a distance, looks a whole lot like insanity didn't happen by chance. All of it has been intelligently crafted with the goal of preserving the position of those who profit from the inhumanity that is at the very roots of pretty much every problem we are facing. From the environment, to racism/discrimination, to health, to saving our democracy at home and growing it abroad, half the time Republicans are intentionally blocking the solution to the problems we face. The other half of the time they are the problem we face.
The truth of our time is we've arrived at the point where there's no way to respect the nonsense the Republican Party is promoting and have any hope of overcoming the problems we as a nation and we as a planet face. Given the choice between saving America and planet Earth or saving the feelings of Republican voters, we are choosing to side with saving our country and our world. I'm sorry it's come to this.
And no, there is no HATE!!! in any of this. There is a whole lot of propaganda at the heart of much of how Republican voters have been steered away from conservative values to what they now seem all too happy to vote for. The thing to remember about propaganda is that it doesn't just misinform, it also works to make people immune from the truth by convincing them any facts that counter their propaganda are nothing more than HATE!!! But we really have no hate for Republican voters. None at all.
I actually like and respect most of you guys. Sure, there are a growing number that are there for the racism, but I still believe the majority of you have good hearts that want to help and do the right thing. I know you to be trustworthy, and honest, and funny, and caring, and good souls. The problem isn't what you are, the problem is what you are now voting to support. You guys have been turned around.
Remember when your distrust of big city types, and your deep rooted beliefs in paying your debts, respecting your marriage, raising kids willing to serve, honoring your word, and going to church every week had you voting for Donald Trump over Joe Biden all because Biden's son had a computer? Or how you couldn't vote for Hillary because she was over-prepared and used emails? I know that to you your actions seem rational and in keeping with your values, but when it comes to voting you are now consistently voting in people who are the exact opposite of you and the values you hold dear.
What does any of this mean? Going forward we would still be glad to have you as customers, but we're done pretending the Republican Party's embrace of cruelty, racism, Covid lies, climate change denial, and threats to democracy are anything other than the risks they legitimately are. If you need us to pretend you are not creating the hurt you are creating in order for you to continue to be our customer, I'm sad to say you might be happier elsewhere.
If on the other hand you still want the best spices and don't need us to respect what you now vote for to be our customer, Hooray! We are happy to have you here, but know that we will, on a regular basis, try to wake you up from this dream that has you believing there is anything conservative left at all to what the Republican Party has become. We can and will work without Republicans to solve the problems we face, but it sure would be nice to get back to a time where Republicans were equal defenders of equality, the environment, and democracy. We look forward to that day.

Thanks for reading. Thanks for being here,
Bill

You know what's crazy. My first job after graduating from A&M was with Oscar Mayer in Madison, Wisconsin. It didn't take long to realize the folks up there were left of center. But this was 1981 and things were different back then...left of center, but not insane.

I just don't understand how Democrats can be so far left as they are. Case in point...no need for ID's to vote, yet the state of Connecticut (where I was born and raised), now requires ID's to recycle. How can an intellectual reason through that?

The only way I can think that spice company's diatribe makes sense is if they're even further right than current republicans. Because I really can't think of anything where republicans have abandoned conservative values. They've always been pro-nuclear family, anti-abortion, anti-illegal immigration, pro-military/military spending, anti- LGBTQLMNOP, anti-welfare/social programs, more Christian/religious than the Democrats, pro-America first, in favor of tax cuts & regulations, tough on crime....all things they still espouse.

The ONLY things I can think regarding "values" is that a good portion of republicans no longer have a huge issue with gay civil unions ("marriage"), and a lot of them no longer see marijuana as evil. But that would be them moving more left, which should make the libs happy?

If she can't get another job paying more than $19 per hour now then it is a very clear sign that she was being hugely overpaid for her skills and capabilities at her USAID funded job.

Can't fault your post one bit.

I hope the woman saved well and invested even better.

Anyone really care about these people? She had no specialized ability nor skills yet was being paid $272,000 per year for no reason.

Right.

I am sure each one of us would have taken up that job had it been offered to us.

So can we blame her?

Blame the crooked system which creates a mechanism to hire her or anyone else for 272k for such a position.

It is very unlikely that I would've been interested in that job.
