good a time as any to watch the mythical doomsday video. RIP, RC Christian

Sorry, but what's this?

CNN has a canned video they will show when the world is ending.

Search for it on YouTube - it's out there.

Funding Gettysburg and Gods and Generals was one good thing he did.

Too bad G&G got nuked by the racial grievance industrial complex so The Last Full Measure was never made.

Gettysburg was good. Gods and Generals was a lost cause melodrama.

my only thing to contribute to this is that my FiL loves civil war movies and went to see this and I asked if he liked it and he said...

"it just really ended short. there was a lot more story I thought. it was supposed to be 4 hours but just ended after 2."

i replied, "You did know there was an intermission right?"

"A what?"

In the words of Robin Williams, "Ted Turner and Jane Fonda broke up. Jane found God and Ted found out it wasn't him."

While I'm sure Ted had a huge ego and may have been a bit of a narcissist, I think the person in this group with the God-like complex was clearly Jane. Of course, letting her get away with treason and/or giving aid and comfort to the enemy in Vietnam sort of fed that.

I think she came by it naturally. The more I read about Henry Fonda, the less I think of him.

Interview with him from last year says he spent most of his time in last several years at his Tallahassee home.

F that but I'm guessing he wanted to be closer to civilization due to his age but that's me speculating.

He was ill. Had Lewy Body Syndrome. Something like Parkinson's with dementia type symptoms too.

Well, there you go.

Remember, Trump is actually kind of a political ret@rd and isn't and has never really been a true conservative. Then his post will make much more sense.

Ted Turner was a flaming liberal and enemy of the Republic. He was married to Jane f'ing Fonda for crying out loud.

Would you put Clay Travis in the same boat as Trump? Clay essentially posted highly about him today as well.

Yes, both men are lifelong democrats, until very recently.

I met him in Atlanta when my father sold him MASH (syndicated by 20th Century Fox). I remember loving that show, looking back I'm not sure I could watch it now. Did Klinger start the whole trans movement? :-)

Once, years ago, I was eating in the downtown ATL Ted's Montana Grill, not knowing anything about its ownership or history. The waiter was all "Ted this. Ted that. Well, as Ted says…"

I thought "whoever this Ted guy is, he has the wait staff bought in."

I finished the meal and as I was walking out, I ran right into Mr Turner. I said "Oh! So you're the Ted behind Ted's Montana Grill. Well, let me tell you, your staff is 'all in'. They do a great job."

He flicked me like a booger. I returned to my tiny hotel room and pondered my relative station in life.

Gettysburg was good. Gods and Generals was a lost cause melodrama.

That's only because people don't understand how the books are written.

G&G focuses more on the South from their point of view.
Gettysburg focuses on both sides at the pivotal battle.
The Last Full Measure focuses more on the North from their point of view.

Not portraying all of the Confederates as horrible, evil people, is not the same as Lost Cause pseudohistory.

That said, its a topic for another thread.

Turner had one of the few genetically pure bison herds (no cattle interbreeding) and donated bulls to save other herds.

He had a fairly large impact on bison conservation in general.

I read this randomly on PBS a minute ago:

https://www.pbs.org/newshour/nation/cnn-founder-ted-turner-a-brash-and-outspoken-television-pioneer-has-died-at-age-87

Quote:

Perhaps Turner's greatest love was for the land. He acquired millions of acres in ranches complete with roaming buffalo and was Nebraska's largest private landholder. He spoke often of reviving the West's bison herds, and in 2002 started a restaurant chain serving bison burgers, Ted's Montana Grill.

Researchers at Texas A&M University credited his donation of a few bulls in 2005 with helping increase the genetic diversity of the last herd of southern Plains bison.

Back in the land before 100-channel cable TV (which to kids today must sound like the Land Before Time), TBS was one of the few afternoon TV options. I'll never forgive them for interrupting "Tom and Jerry" to show his dogs of summer, the loser Atlanta Braves, for afternoon games.

In the early 2000s, in response to a question about whether or not he believed in God, Turner was quoted as saying something like "God? Every day when I wake up and look in the mirror, I see God."

He was a pompous ass.

I read a book about Ted. Good read. Dude worked his ass off. He lived at CNN and drank Ensure rather than eating so he could work harder. Towed a sailboat with a Ferrari. Mananged the Braves one game.
