Assuming this is true, which it's very likely not, what happens next year when the state decides not to kick in 4 billion again? Or worse, they are forced to fund it again.

New Yorkers that don't live in NYC should be worried - and irate.

At some point there will be a break between Hochul and Mamdami.

Actually, I think this confirms (as if we didn't know) that the Mayor of NYC has more power than the Governor of NY state.

And that's a structural problem.

Imagine living in Utica or the Finger Lakes district or any Upstate area knowing that even more of your tax monies are going to bail out the money pit known as NYC!

Help me understand….

NYC Mayor Zohran Mamdani unveiled a budget that closes a $12 billion inherited deficit with no property tax increase and no major service cuts, while adding a first-ever pied--terre tax on luxury second homes worth over $5 million.

So a tax that they estimate to generate $500 million plus a $4 billion handout from the state….is going to wipeout a $12 billion deficit? How?

2 + 2 = fish

It's simple math you dolts.

He applied Bidenflation percentages agains 2019 tax revenues, discounted the NPV of 2038s proposed budget, divided by CPI, plus interest, square-rooted by the numerator with two of those carrot sign thingies to arrive at a perfectly balanced budget.

Makes sents to mi tu puede.

And the left is spinning this that the commie mamdani has balanced the NYC budget with no programs cut.

My only problem is that ultimately they'll go to federal government for a bailout and the rest of us tax payers will be responsible for the bill. If a state government is too big to fail it means the net tax payers are ultimately slaves to Commie Mamdani's spending even though we live in completely different states.

The next time I democrat is in the Whitehouse,, you can bet that's what's going to happen

The next time they're going to do things that make the 4 years with comrade xiden a picnic.

This is like me going online designing my G700 then closing the tab without buying. I just saved $90 million and $9 million in ongoing expenses. Since I didn't have it before, there was no change to the life style of my family.

"Out-year gaps under Mamdani's own numbers:

FY2028: $7.1 billion
FY2029: $8.5 billion
FY2030: $9.8 billion

The hole grew $5.4 billion in three months.

So the real headline. Hochul cut a check. Future workers eat the pension bill. The structural deficit is BIGGER than the day he walked in.

They didn't fix anything. They moved it.

The math: $4.69B real gap. $8B from Hochul. $1.64B pension can-kick. $25.9B in future gaps.

He didn't balance the books. But he's gambling your future and kicking the can down the road.

So maybe stop celebrating."

Can't remember the specifics right now but that is true. There is a quirk in NY law wherein NYC is exempt from County and even state control as we would usually see in the hierarchy governing municipalities.

Back during covid, Cuomo could quarantine New Rochelle, New York but not a single borough in NYC. Only the mayor could do that.

Budget FY25----$850B. Spending $862B
Deficit = $12B

Budget FY26----$920B. Projected outlays $920B.
Deficit Gone.

This stuff is easy.
