Pizza hut hasn't been good since the 90's

I'd argue that it was never good. It's just that Americans discovered what pizza is supposed to taste like.

Kinda like the difference between a burger from McDonald's and one from a Mom&Pop that grinds their own beef, hand shapes their patties, and sourced their buns from a local bakery.

On the other hand, when you produce a product that is worse than a competitor that has your single topping pizza ready before you order it and only charges you $6 for it, yeah, you've probably gone downhill over the past few decades.

did they really bring back the summer book program that used to get you a personal pan pizza?

You may be right but when I was a kid, getting my dad to take the family to Pizza Hut was a big deal. Dad would even order two extra supremes and have mom freeze them.

I just found out some interesting information.

You know the Aggieland Credit Union on University Drive? In the early 80s, it used to be a Pizza Hut! Does anyone remember this and has anyone eaten there?

501 University Drive

What was there in the late 80s/early 90s? I don't seem to recall. I know the building to the right of it was a bicycle shop, then FedEx/Kinko's to the right of that. Maybe it was already the credit union and I just don't remember.

The bicycle shop and the Kinko's were there during my time in the 90s. The Kinkos is now a Fedex and still operates but the bicycle shop is gone. All as per what I saw on Google Street views.

Psst! Private equity firms know squat about the restaurant business. Things will go further downhill as they cut costs. That is their bottom line.

They do know real estate.

I have very fond memories of Pizza Hut as a kid, but their food is absolutely terrible now. I wish they'd resurrect the old style sit down restaurants with salad bars and lunch buffets, but maybe that's just wishful nostalgia. I don't know if that would work any more since it doesn't seem like many other restaurants do it. But I will say one of the most popular restaurants near me still has a great salad bar and there's almost always a wait for tables. Either way, Pizza Hut needs to start from scratch with their pizza like Domino's did several years ago, because their current pizza is trash.

Pizza Hut, when it used to be a sit down restaurant, was quite a treat as a kid back in the 70's-80's.

Since Pizza Hut doesn't really have much real estate, how much do they know about an important thing here like franchising?

This times eleventy billion.

They nailed the interior with the checker board tables and the red plastic cups. Other than that it was below average pizza.

Up until 2-3 years ago ... in Plano (on Ohio) Dr was a stand-alone, old school Pizza Hut. They completely razed the building and in its place built a kiosk-sized building with maybe a few tables as a waiting area... basically a drive-through-centric.

No telling the $$$$$s spent on the raze and rebuild.

That was a corporate-owned store just down the road from their HQ where they were trying out a new concept.

Jersey Mike's sucks now. They cut the amount of meat on their sandwiches, slice the cheese translucent thin, and raised prices.

They still have inside stores where you can sit and eat. There is one in Hempstead and Magnolia

Yes, it was something else first, but it was a Pizza Hut when I was in school. I ate there several times.

Maybe because:
1) Double Dave didn't start franchising until '97 and most folks on here didn't grow up in BCS?
2) Double Dave's isn't very good either?

Its funny to see this because I was just talking about this with my parents and my teenage kids last night at dinner and I told the kids that they could thank the millennials for the death of the chain food restaurants. I think it was brought up because we passed an On the Border with an empty parking lot on our way to a small brewery/restaurant for dinner. One thing millennials have done right is up the food game.

Our small town PH (been here forever) is actually pretty good and our preference, although I'm sure my standards aren't super high. A Dominoes moved in and they both seem to be fairly busy, but have no idea how profitable either are. PH was forced to offer delivery of course.

Wonder what the future holds. PH has been here forever and they've recently cleaned it up somewhat. Rarely does anyone eat there however.

Someone mentioned Shakey's(sp?) which brought back some fun childhood memories. They had a shrimp pizza that was something else.
I don't think you know me.

Exactly.

Yum Brands wasn't exactly setting the menu bar very high either Pizza Hut, KFC, or Taco Bell.

This is a strange post to start.

In my 20's pizza hut, dominos, papa johns, godfathers, cicis and the other cheap brands would get my business.

Now that I am making adult money, I go to locally owned family joints. Sure I spend a few dollars more, happy to do it.

RC's pizza in Kingwood gets a lot of my business.

I loved Last National Bank in the old Aggie Bank building on corner of Uni and Texas.

Great horseradish Bloody Mary, with a basket...basket of nachos. Chips (thick) on the perimeter, beans, meat, cheese, jalapenos.

Just down from that was the strip center that held a Subway (still there) and a 31 Treats (not Baskin-Robbins). There was a cute girl in my economics class that worked at the 31 Treats, a definite missed opportunity.

To who? There's an old PH where I live that has been vacant for at least 15 years. I don't think there has been another restaurant tenant in there during that time, either. If there has, it didn't last because I missed it -- and I go by there monthly at the least.

I've thought about making an offer on the building at like 20 cents on the dollar to gauge interest. I doubt they'd bite, but maybe I could get them talking. I'd open a burger place but staffing is a huge issue, so location is probably all wrong.
