Yeah, but there are several really good centers available in the draft. With Shaq at RG, I'm really comfortable using a third rounder on a center. OL could be a real strength IF we don't trade Tunsil.

Tunsil/Chiefs rumors are still lingering. Need two 1's to feel good about that.

If we get a center in the draft, that could work. I had it reversed in my head: draft a RG in the middle rounds to compete with Cann and sign a center in free agency. While Cann wasn't good, he was a heck of a lot better than our center play.

I'd only feel good about trading Tunsil if we land someone in free agency. Picks alone would be a step backwards.

Tunsil is interesting

On one hand he's a damn good LT but on the other he wants to be paid like the best LT in the game and he's a bit of a locker room cancer.

IMO he's dispensable because he's gonna walk if you don't pay him anyways. I given his past behavior I imagine he'll hold out too. It's too much of a headache for a young team and young coach especially when you can turn him into something valuable.

I thought we were going to go after a big name on the d-line, but looks like we stayed conservative. Right now it feels like we might be going pass rush at 12. That would mean a guy like Myles Murphy, Lukas Van Ness, or Nolan Smith. Or they wait until the second round to see if Keion White, BJ Ojulari, or Derick Hall is there. None of the WR options is still a true no 1 so I still think WR is the most likely but I wouldn't be shocked if they went with a pass rusher. Outside of Carter there's not really any DTs in the first round discussion that I've seen.

Any chatter on where Carter may slot?

I'm still holding out hope he falls to 12 or close enough to move up and get him

No way is someone as idiotic as BoB out there and giving up two 1's, I would be ecstatic with a 1 and happy with just a 2.

I doubt anyone will know as there is going to be a lot of stuff put out there by teams to attempt to get him to drop to them. But I see him going anywhere between 5 and 15.

I think we're going after the 49ers C right now in free agency. If we sign him, then I would be OK with trading Tunsil and reshuffling the line. As Ag_07 said, odds are that we aren't going to give him the money he wants next year, so I would rather get something from him this year if we think we have 4 potential solid starters without him.

Centers coming off the board
-Vikings re-sign Garrett Bradbury
-49ers re-sign Jake Brendel

I don't think there's any chance he falls to us at 12. Right now my guess is he falls to between 5-9.

Does everyone think we stay at 2 or make a trade.

I'm leaning towards a trade at this time.

I would put it at 99% we're taking a QB at #2

If STroud goes #1, do you go with Young, Richardson, or Anderson at 2?

Would be dumb to take Richardson or Levis at 2.

I personally lean toward young but with this coaching staff I don't know if they'll feel the same way. Coming from SF last year they were decimated by injuries at the QB position. Lance went down, then Jimmy G, then Purdy as well. Those injuries weren't sustained because of their size, but I can't help but think that's going to play a part in their decision making. There's going to be teams turned off of Young because of his size, and others just don't care. I think Young is worth the gamble, invest in the offensive line and give him weapons to throw to. He's the fastest decision maker of the group, he can get rid of it quickly, and he can move too when necessary. He's the most well rounded QB of the top 4.

As much as I like Anderson, QB is the bigger need.

Perhaps reading into it too much, but Keenum is perfect mentor for Young style and size-wise

What makes you say that?

Keenum hasn't done much in the NFL and I'm not sure he's anymore qualified to mentor than any other journeyman QB.

I think Keenum is a great backup/mentor for any QB, not just a smaller guy like Young. He kind of reminds me of Kubiak during his playing days. Always prepared and can actually win for you as a starter and is very helpful in the QB room during the week. Keenum really is the prototypical "coach's son".

He's 35 and has been in the league a long time. That is a ton of experience on the day to day of being an NFL quarterback - being a professional athlete, working hard, contributing to the team, running an offense, etc. I absolutely dont think there is any argument to me made that "he hasn't done much." But if that is your opinion, you are certainly entitled to it.
Ag_07

Yeah he's good at working hard but he hasn't contributed to a team or run an offense in how many years?

I didn't even know he was still in the league.

They aren't bringing in Case to play QB. They are bringing him in to model how a pro QB practices and prepares. The fact that he has played in the league this long even though he is undersized and lacks top level physical ability suggests he is pretty good at doing those things.

Yep. Most of the signings so far are veterans that can lead and help shift the culture for DeMeco in Houston. They can and might still contribute on the field in small ways, but it's about culture and leadership on what is going to be a young team. No matter how good you were in college, the NFL is a different animal and is a full-time grown-ass man job and there's going to be an adjustment. Several of these signings are targeted at making that transition smoother and make the learning curve as steep as possible. Also add in that young position coach + veteran position back-ups helps make that transition as well and fills some gaps a more inexperienced coach may have.

And we all know we aren't making the playoffs next year (or probably the year after that), so this is a good signing. No one is expecting him to start or likely even play. I can't believe a back-up (or third string) QB signing has received this much negative discussion…

Looks like Dallas will be releasing Zeke. Wonder if Texans will kick the tires.

I know he's lost a step but he may be a good fit to bring in a vet to take some of the load off Pierce.

No thanks to Zeke. Use a draft pick on a RB and maybe look at someone like Sanders

That's a nice pickup and really good fit for this defense. I'm guessing he's trying to play for a large contract next year.

So Jalen Carter had an awful pro day today. Showed up 9 lbs heavier than the combine, only did positions drills, and failed to finish those with cramping and was gassed.

He's gonna drop like a rock.

I'd prefer a guy like Jamaal Williams if we take a veteran over Zeke or Sanders. He was great for Detroit last year, he's 28 so we wouldn't be willing to do a long term deal and I wouldn't think a back his age would look for one. Dan Campbell was a fan of his as well.

That is 9 pounds in less than 2 weeks....WOW

I was asking myself last week if he would drop to 12, now I'm wondering if I want him at 12. Tough call there, but I think I would still take him, especially with a coach like DeMeco

What an amateur. I can gain 9 pounds in an afternoon.

Carter strikes me as a low football character guy. There are many things I don't care for about Nic, but he doesn't clown around with these types of players. I don't see DeMeco caring for shenanigans either.

Very true, anyone that doesn't have the right motor isn't going to be a Texan for too long. DeMeco really doesn't strike me as the type of person who suffers people that don't give it 100% all the time,

My thoughts exactly

And yes while Demeco doesn't seem to be one to deal with this kinda crap I have heard that he's very big on taking guys under his wing and developing them and coaching then up.

I can't recall but there have been a couple of guys who he kinda mentored and redeveloped in SF. And not to mention Nick comes from NE where they would take guys on reclamation projects.

Could Carter be a candidate for that?
MaxPower
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Which guys are you referring to? There's a difference between guys who have been hurt, are raw and underdeveloped or who are dirtbags off the field vs those that don't love football.
Ag_07

I don't know and maybe your right but I just remember seeing or hearing somewhere that Demeco is big on coaching guys up and mentoring.

That was one of the noted differences in him and past HCs.
