I thought Cal's immediate shortlist would be Josh McDaniels or Matt Patricia. Maybe give Joe Judge or Brian Flores a 2nd shot. Maybe even rehire Romeo Crennel.
Flores set to interview for the Cleveland DC job so maybe he and Watson wind up together after all. Not on South Beach, but on Lake Erie beach.

I don't think he would come here.....but.... maybe all that Caserio talk was to get him ready to decide if he wants to be here in a diminished capacity with someone like Sean Payton?

Ahhh, the offseason, where anything can happen...but, nothing usually does!

Texans have a ton of draft assets, other teams don't. Anyone here think Payton isnt worth the no 12 pick? It's at least worth a conversation. I don't think he'd come here but Denver, Arizona, Indy, and Carolina don't have a spare first round pick which is what NO wants.
I don't. Don't want to give up ANY of our draft picks for a HC when there are tons of solid options out there for "free". Think the #12 this year should/would go a long way to solidifying our roster.

Is Charlie Weiss not availble?
How about Dom Capers?

The Saints went 58-23 from 2017-2021. If you're only going to hire coaches who have won the Super Bowl recently, you're going to be shopping for a while.

Texans taking the Aggies approach. Just throw a bunch of money at anyone who's won somewhere before and hope they can replicate it.

That's not really a good way to look at this as it's very easy for someone in the NFL to replicate success from one team to another with the structure of the NFL compared to college football. Hell if college football had structure and could better control player movement like the NFL (which is absolutely nuts that I said that) and players could focus 100% on football then the old "Jimbo" would be a perfect fit for just about anyone. Since this is the NFL, Payton would be a best case scenario for Houston, but I think we would be just fine with one of the younger coaches on a long term play. Overall, comparing the situations would be a mistake when looking at the Texans coaching hire.

Bringing back the baby blue?
Also, Changing the primary logo is typically a two year process with the league, so I assume we won't see anything new on field until 2024 or 2025.

Pick your favorite young guy like Johnson, Ryans, the phily guys etc and keep all those valuable draft picks. If the WR is gone at 12, trade down a few spots and add more picks.

If you don't like the Kyler or Justin Fields type QB (Young & Stroud) then go with a veteran and get your QB next year. The Texans can really build the defense in this draft if it works out that way.

Adding Derek Carr, a healthy Metchie, another RB (Achane?) and drafting defense with the first 3-4 picks might lead to a division title.

If Cal would buy back the Oiler logo and unis from the Titans, I would buy season tickets to the Texans for the rest of my life.

the Texans would have to trade for Derek Carr (and his messy contract)

he's not a free agent unless the Raiders cut him...and they want to avoid doing that

Thanks. Same helmet that they unveiled this year and wore against the Eagles. And no primary logo change.

They have to, no one is trading for Carr's contract and the dead cap hit is only $5.6MM if they release him before the season.

And he has a large roster bonus due sometime not long after the SB that you'd think the Raiders would want to avoid paying.

Big news, Texans considering having a winning season in 2029.

I get the negativity toward the Texans, and they have to prove it. Cal needs to get this right.

My take after that awful presser the other day is that Caserio is out if the new HC doesn't want him. I wouldn't be surprised at all if we get a whole bunch of up and coming hires in the front office as well. My money is on them going with someone young and trying to pair them with another young guy. If they get an OC as HC then they bring in another young DC or vice versa.

I'm hopeful they will get it right as I want to see them win in the next few years but I am certainly not holding my breath.

Payton could be good but I worry that he's not who he once was.

Yeah, was about to post the same thing. It's the whole reason they benched him when they did. If he wasn't injured they could cut him before the superbowl and barely have any cap hit. So, yeah they're going to try to trade him, but I doubt anyone jumps on that when they can just sign him after he's released.

I do enjoy the battle red helmets and jerseys over the navy ones. What I would think is fun is if they took the cowboys helmet and jersey and switched it to a battle red motif. Not because I like the cowboys, but because I'd love to see jerry and their fans lose their minds. Just take the helmet pictured above, remove the logo, and put a white star in its place.

We could also do full rebranding with a name change like the Texas Texans, the team so nice they named it twice.

New uniforms: Red needs to be the primary color. Replace the dark blue with more of an Oiler blue...far enough away not to get sued but close enough for us who remember the Oilers to feel nostalgic.

They should just go with a full replica of the 1979-80 Oilers uniform but with the Texans logo (until such time as we can pressure the NFL into having Tennessee give us the rights to the Oilers logo/history).

Should just call them the Houston Football Team, but play all the old Oiler fight songs and have the helmets have something that looks exactly like the derrick but with some obscure changes.

Or give them a name that rhymes with Oilers

Houston Boilers

They could be called the Houston spoilers, because they spoil the atmosphere by sucking so much.
