Ryans is my #1 choice. He has excelled at everything put in front of him since the moment he got into the NFL. Scheme wise has been awesome, he knows how to motivate his players, he has the respect of his players and peers, and he knows what it takes to win at a high level.

He would be a home run hire if they can bring him home.

San Francisco 49ers defensive coordinator DeMeco Ryans is considered the favorite for the Houston Texans' head coaching job, sources told ESPN's Adam Schefter.

After overseeing the NFL's No. 1 defense this past season, Ryans now is the front-runner to be the next head coach of the Texans, who cannot conduct a second interview with him until after the 49ers play in Sunday's NFC Championship Game.

The Texans also think highly of Philadelphia Eagles defensive coordinator Jonathan Gannon, who has strong support within the Houston organization, sources told Schefter. Gannon interviewed with the Texans on Jan. 14.

Things have been looking more and more positive with DeMeco since the interview. Hopefully we close the deal.

Another thing in that article that stuck out to me was Philly fighting to keep Brian Johnson as their QB coach. I'd love to get him even with DeMeco. He has a very good track record with QBs and that offense would fit at least 3 of the QB prospects. Plus he's from Houston, and I believe he coached Anthony Richardson for a year.

So the 49ers are on their 4th QB (and now he's hurt). They had injury issues last year too. It's not like they have a bad OL, so you have to wonder if maybe they all the play action, misdirection, and games they do up front over exposes their QBs.

Then again, they're in the conference championship game so maybe it's an acceptable tradeoff.

Running the west coast, you need someone that knows all that stuff. Just reminds me of when Schaub went down. Honestly good for the eagles but this game is terrible.

Kind of strange. I mean, if you're an up and coming Coodinator , likely to have HC options, why would you build a house (with all that entails, time, etc)? If he gets the Texans gig, he's not going to have alot of free time to spend in SF. It's a full-time "be here" gig.

Come to think of it, I don't know why almost any NFL HC would build a custom home, outside of a Super Bowl winning coach (who earns at least 3 more "guaranteed" years).

Not hating on the Eagles, they are a good team.

But what a path to the SuperBowl. Get the #1 seed on the easiest schedule in the league, then play the 9-7 Giants and then the 49ers with their 4th string QB.

Maybe one day things will break for the Texans like this.

Investment, if he got through the red tape to build a home in San Fran, it'll probably be worth triple in 10 years due to investment real estate strategies in higher end areas

We aren't hiring someone to run one side of the ball or the other. The HC is responsible for the whole team. Strategy, scheme, player development, coach development, all of it. Sure, you still need skilled coordinators and assistants, but it starts at the top.

DeMeco has been incredibly successful as both player and coach due to his intelligence, toughness and leadership. He's easily the candidate I wanted most. No one is a sure thing, but I really believe he'll be successful so long as the front office can do their job.

I'm just glad this coach search was a real search.

From the names they vetted, guys they interviewed, and the whole process was light years better than how it went down last year.

Did they even do multiple interviews last year?
