Quote:

Anthony Richardson on his arm strength, says when he takes off some of the strength his accuracy lessens. "I don't care if somebody complains about it being thrown too hard. They better catch it."
That right there is gonna lose him some draft "points". Gotta be able to throw with touch.

He needs to ask Brock Osweiler how that worked for him.

Calzada too. We all marveled at his arm strength until we saw that he was only capable of throwing bullets.

If those quotes are all from the combine it makes me think that Richardson might not have done much interview preparation. I'm sure that Young and Stroud have but the QB position in particular gets a lot of scrutiny when it comes to the ability to communicate, and rightfully so. They also have to sit down in a room with evaluators and explain what they see and why they did what they did. I still think there's a team out there that will take him based on potential alone but it's not happening in the top 2 picks.

In other news I'm kinda sad that Nolan Smith did so well. I was really hoping that he'd be there in the second round and I don't think there's any chance of that now. There are some other players out there that will be available but I was really hoping that he'd fall to the second round but his athleticism was outstanding.

I agree with you on Nolan Smith, but that will probably vault him into high teens/low twenties.

Honestly I was thinking Dline or LB for that 2nd round pick, but not sure if there's going to be a great value there anymore. Looking at value, I'm starting to think interior o-line, WR (one of the burners), or TE if one of those guys slip a little might be the value pick at the top of the 2nd.

Richardson's comment is irrelevant. If he tests and throws like people think he will, he will continue to gain momentum as a top pick.

And Stroud said he looks up to QBs like Mike Vick and Deshaun Watson

Who TF is coaching these guys on these answers?

it's really tough not to lump Stroud in with the other Ohio State quarterbacks.

they all feasted on so many horrible B1G defenses and played with a slew of future NFL WR's

I'm not a big fan of Stroud, but I watched him a fair amount this year and he is a very accurate passer. In the Shanahan/Kubiak offense, he should be successful. I worry about his ability to step up and win big games, but he can spin it.

Agreed, I wouldn't be upset if we went with Stroud, as I'm not sold on him or Young. So, while I would prefer an Anderson or a Carter pick, I'm at an equal level of happiness if they pick either of those QBs. If it's another QB at that #2 spot I'm really gonna need a hard sell on the reasoning.

On another note, speaking of guys that I was hoping to get in the 2nd that are moving up fast, Zay Flowers is on my list. I know he's small, but this offense is designed to find unique playmakers and put them in position to exploit the defense and I think Zay Flowers fits that bill. I'm starting to think I wouldn't mind him at #12

Accuracy isn't a concern but Ohio St QBs haven't been asked to read a defense in their careers.

Kyler at the combine was the same exact height and 3 lbs heavier than Bryce Young. Kyler and Russ Wilson are the only NFL starting Qbs under 6 feet. Who wants to take a chance on the NFLs shortest QB?

Jamarcus failed because he was a lazy POS. Pretty unfair to lump anyone with him unless you know the guy's character personally, which I doubt you do.

I expect Richardson to run in the 4.4s. While he may have a rocket like Russell with no touch, he is at least useable in the run game.

yeesh, 5'10" 204 is tiny by NFL standards

and he's not the runner or scrambler that Murray is or was

Not talking about the guys character. Talking about his 50% completion rating. Josh Allen is literally the only example of a guy with a low completion percentage in college who got better in the NFL.

NFL execs get enamored with size, how far they can throw the ball, etc (Levis, Richardson). They almost never work out if they haven't done it in college (completion %).

just for fun...the list of WR's in the NFL that recent Ohio State QB's played with in college:

- Michael Thomas
- Terry McLaurin
- Curtis Samuel
- Chris Olave
- Garrett Wilson
- Parris Campbell
- Noah Brown

and Marvin Harrison jr should be a 1st round pick next year

Jamarcus completed 68% his final year at LSU. His NFL failure was purely due to his character and drive.

I get the criticisms and risks with Richardson, just don't think Jamarcus is a fair comparison. Cam Newton would make sense though. Great runner with a great arm who couldn't sustain success due to his inability to progress as a passer.

Yeah, I don't get the Murray comparisons, they are completely different players outside of them both being short for a QB

Richardson apparently just jumped 40.5 in the vertical jump. Highest by a QB in the 20 years of combines.

Freak status even more confirmed, just ran 4.44

6'4 and 1/4 244, 40.5 vertical and 4.44 40 is insane. That crushes anything Cam Newton did.

Richardson put on a show…might be the most impressive physical specimen to ever play the QB position. Easy to fall and n love with IF you trust your ability to develop him.

That said, I was really, really impressed with the way Stroud throws the ball. He is a marksman. In the Shanahan offense, he could be special. I still want Bryce Young, but if someone trades up for him, I'm getting more and more comfortable with Stroud.

Richardson does not feel like a Caserio pick, but he is so physically gifted that I could talk myself into him, as well.

In the end, it's a gamble. Young is my first choice, but I'm ok with Stroud, and Richardson is really intriguing. Any body but Levis.

Those three will go in he top 10. Maybe top 5.
