Getting away from how much adams and the titans suck, some interesting free agency news that is kind of connected to us.

Seattle resigned Geno Smith to a 3 year 105M deal, so I would say that puts them out of the QB chase this year. With the Saints already signing Carr, I would put that as Indy, and maybe the Panthers as potential teams that would make a move up for a QB.

Looking at the top 10
1 Chicago Bears
2 Houston Texans
3 Arizona Cardinals
4 Indianapolis Colts
5 Seattle Seahawks
6 Detroit Lions
7 Las Vegas Raiders
8 Atlanta Falcons
9 Carolina Panthers
10 Philadelphia Eagles

Yeah, maybe Atlanta would take a QB, or the Raiders, but I don't think either would trade up to get one. More like if one fell they would take them. So with each day that bidding war for the Bears is going to have people bowing out.
I don't think Atlanta is ready to give up on Ridder that quickly right?

Gotta say, was looking through some comments on some of the news articles about this and I would say the one that summed it up best "Wearing Oilers gear vs the Texans would be like the Indianapolis Colts having Johnny Unitas appreciation night vs the Ravens."

It's just such a **** you to Houston, and I'm sure the NFL will play it up as some kind of reconnect to the roots of the organization bull*****
Adams wanted to wear throw backs in Houston but got shut down by the NFL, that's how spiteful that man was.
They are wearing throwbacks this year when they play Houston.
I get that, my point was that Bud Adams wanted to bring the Titans to Houston and have them wear Oilers uniforms. I can only imagine how pissed I would have been, along with every other Oilers fan, had the NFL allowed it to happen but fortunately they told him under no circumstance would that be allowed. I think it's incredibly low class to wear it against Houston regardless of location, the fact he wanted to do it in Houston demonstrates the bitterness the man harbors, well the feeling is mutual. This would be akin to the Ravens going to Cleveland and wearing Browns throwbacks. But at least they got their name back.

I wish the NFL would step in and tell them if they want to wear throwbacks that's fine, but pick another team to do it against.
Agree 100%

He was only a 3rd round pick, so it's not like they invested a lot in him. I think they would be tempted if one of the QBs fell to them.

Agreed, after Arizona gave up on Josh Rosen after one season to draft Murray I don't think it's ever off limits for a team to draft a QB in the first round if they think a better option is there. If a better QB than Ridder is there at 8 they could very well draft one, especially since Carolina needs a QB and drafts one slot after them. Though I still think Carolina is highly likely to move up in the draft, I'm just not sure how far they plan on going.

Conspiracy theory time: is it possible that the NFL has stepped in, and has told the Titans organization that they must give the Oilers name, logo, and colors back to Houston by 2024? The reason behind the NFL stepping in could be the result of fan engagement in Houston being at an all-time low, so maybe they see the Texans rebranding as the Oilers once again as a way to inject excitement for the city. I have no idea if the NFL has the power to do this, so maybe someone can answer that.

Perhaps the Titans wearing the throwbacks this season is the last hurrah for them to wear Oilers uniforms. This would line up with the new "Texans" uniforms being released for the 2024 season. The Houston media that got a chance to view the uniform mock-ups were "sworn to secrecy", so something tells me it's more than just new uniforms...

As much as I would LOVE for this to be true, I don't see that happening for a variety of reasons. The Adamses are petty, awful human beings who would rather see the Oilers history fade away than have it celebrated by the people to whom it actually means something. Plus, it seems like the McNairs are quite proud of the Texans franchise and would probably see that as somehow erasing or at least diminishing what Bob did in getting a new franchise here to Houston.

I suspect the new uniforms will be some kind of mashup of the two. Basically, a Texans uniform with Oiler colors, and I would be happy with that. Not a dramatic change, just a different shade of blue, and as I've said before, it's not like the Titans own the rights to the color blue. Even if we can't use "columbia blue," there are shades of baby blue so close that you probably wouldn't notice unless you're holding the different jerseys side by side.

I also suspect they will have an alternate logo which is basically an old English H. They've loved selling those H-Town t-shirts.

FWIW McShay's latest mock draft is out. Has the Colts jumping to 1 to take Young, Houston then taking Stroud at 2. The really interesting part is he has Jalen Carter falling to Houston at 12. It's a mock draft so it's just for fun but that would certainly be something if Houston were to get Stroud and Carter.

I have a hard time believing he doesn't fall. I know he is only charged with two misdemeanors, but it's two misdemeanors that contributed to the death of two people. I don't know anything about Georgia criminal law, but if misdemeanor conduct results in death, it can often be enhanced to a felony. Appears the prosecutors decided not to pursue that route, but even if he can't be charged with it, it will be there in court of public opinion.

Do you want one of the faces of your franchise to be a guy whose actions are at least partially responsible for two deaths? If this is truly just a stupid, reckless mistake, Carter can probably get past this in time. However, if this is just one event under the larger label of "character issues," then you may want to stay clear of him altogether. If the Texans take him at 12, then it should be because they did their research and they think this was an isolated event. He may be a game-wrecker on the field, but he may be one of these guys who just lacks the maturity and common sense to stay out of his own way.

My guess is that he'll still go in the first round. There are several franchises like Dallas and Kansas City who are always willing to roll the dice on a guy with character issues. I would be surprised if he goes in the top ten, though.

https://www.cbssports.com/nfl/news/nfl-insider-notes-bears-may-not-stop-at-one-trade-in-2023-nfl-draft-plus-texans-eyeing-veteran-qb-more/

One big issue standing in the way of the above is whether Nick Caserio and DeMeco Ryans would be willing to trade up to No. 1.

Sources tell CBS Sports there's a push within the building to sign quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo and play him in 2023 while drafting a quarterback at some point in the first round with the plan to sit him for the year and grow.

Houston picks at No. 2 and 12 with more than $40 million in cap space right now, so the Texans could easily fit their quarterback of the future into the team beside the quarterback of the now if it's Garoppolo.

The Texans hired Bobby Slowik from the Niners to be their offensive coordinator. Who better to execute that offense quickly and efficiently than a healthy Garoppolo, who knows the head coach and offensive coordinator from his time in the Bay Area and the general manager from his time in New England?

Garoppolo will have to want to go to Houston, though. A free agent, Jimmy G can pick his spot. The Jets are waiting on Aaron Rodgers and are hopeful he's going to give an answer any day now. The Raiders could have interest in Garoppolo. But those places would seemingly be the top landing spots.

If the Jets get Rodgers and the Raiders opt to go another route, the best remaining chair for Garoppolo would be Houston. The Texans could get him on a heavily-incentivized deal (due to his injury history) that they can get out of for little to no penalty after the season when their first-round quarterback has developed into a 2024 starter.

Yeah, that would be an odd combo. We would have to give Jimmy G at least 3 years to get him, and then you would be in a Green Bay scenario where the understudy has barely played for the majority of their rookie contract and you have no idea if they're the franchise QB or not right before you have to shell out the big bucks.

If we get Jimmy G, I would believe that we pass on QB unless one of the top 3 fall to 12, otherwise we would go BPA with both picks.

Good post. Remember that there was some criticisms of Bob McNair that he would never allow criminals to be drafted. Has Hannah (or Cal) changed that?

And regarding Carter, whatever criminal charges he faces he will also face civil lawsuits that could drag on several years. That's a pretty big distraction for a young player and so the team has to decide if he can overcome that and is worth it based on potential.

When the Titans come to Houston this year, we should have a pre-game ceremony where we dig up Bud Adams' coffin, put it on the 50-yard line, and let Toro run it over with his 4-wheeler.

Lamar Jackson with the non-exclusive tag from Baltimore. If we weren't terrible I'd say try to get him but Houston has too many holes to fill, going to get Jackson makes more sense for a team that's much closer to being a killer with him on the roster. If Seattle wouldn't have resigned Geno that would have been a tremendous match, plus they have the extra pick from the Wilson trade.

Lamar Jackson is not an ideal qb for the Texans or a Shanahan offense. While he is a dynamic player and helped me go 15-1 and win our fantasy super Bowl drafting him in round 9 a few years ago, he has not been able to duplicate that success. If the Texans acquire a veteran qb I think it should and will be Jimmy G.

And I'm betting this is the NFL dinging the Texans for what went down with Deshaun.
