The two phantom personal fouls accounted for nearly 15% of chiefs total yards. The o line was awful but it's so frustrating that despite all that our offense still ougained the chiefs and did enough to win. The refs, special teams, and situational plays are why we lost.

This game played out exactly like I thought it would.

KC not that great but made the big plays in the big spots and got plenty of help from the zebras.

So predictable. But...Uncle Goodell is happy.

My frustration with this game was directly with the officials. Those two qb hits they threw flags on lead directly to 10 points. The third down especially.

Special teams lost their portion of the game and the oline couldn't handle the blitz. I blame the last part on Slowik bc you need to have a blitz beater against the chefs.

FIX THE OLINE nothing else matters. I would like Diggs back too if we can get him on a friendly deal. He would have torched that secondary.

We were the better team.

Also, CJ needs to stop taking so many deep sacks. Offensive killer.

1st team in nfl history to lose in the playoffs while outgaining opponent by 100+ and committing zero turnovers.

I don't ever blame the refs, but they blew this game for the Texans, both of those roughing the passer penalties changed those drives for the Chiefs.

What did he prove ? Hes proven over and over again he has no pocket presence at ALL, he makes ooor decisions on throws on some head scratching interceptions.

Yes wonderlic scores do matter. Find a qb who has had a good career with a score as low as his.

He outplayed Mahomes.

OL, WR, and TE. Don't draft anything else.

100% this your defense is in good shape. Need to look at those same positions in free agency.

The only thing he didn't do is get two rouging calls.

Difference in the game, Stroud had more yard per pass, more yards, and better passing percentage.

Lamar Jackson got a 13 on the Wonderlic and is the best player in the NFL right now, bar none.

Your takes are as bad as tonight's officiating.

The thing that makes me mad is when analysts say, well the Chiefs ultimately made the plays when it counted. Sure is more likely to "make the plays" when you get do-overs and the defense has to stay out on the field longer than it should have.

If the Texans get the ball 3-3, momentum is entirely different, and we get them on their heels even more.

The refs directly accounted for 10 of their points, but could have easily cost us opportunity to score points and capitalize on their defense being on the field more getting tired.

Didnt expect us to win, but damnit this should have been our game. We outplayed em

Felt confident that Woods should have been traded/cut over Noah Brown before the season, and still feel that way. I know that Brown ended up having what is likely a season ending kidney injury late in the season, but felt he would have helped steady the ship more with our WR injuries than clearly washed Woods. He dealt with injuries last year, but when healthy, was essentially co-WR2 with Dell.

We've seen glimpses of the 2023 CJ the last few weeks carving up the middle of the field and making great plays on 3rd down, but the offense needs to find its way back to the one that can crank out explosive plays on a consistent basis like 2023. OL is simply too much of a conundrum to expect to win games with long drives.

Odd how when you give a good qb a free first down on what should be 4th down it generally leads to points…..

Injuries FINALLY caught up to Detroit. Honestly crazy how they've been able to hang in there through all of it.

A couple of the sacks weren't on the OL due to CJ not getting rid of the ball, but overall the pass protection was historically inept.

https://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/43472843/will-anderson-jr-irked-penalty-calls-texans-loss

Quote:

. . . Beyond the special team blunders, the Texans failed to protect quarterback C.J. Stroud, who was pressured on a career-high 23 dropbacks and sacked eight times, tying a career high from Week 9 against the New York Jets.

Stroud's pressure rate of 56% is the second highest in an NFL playoff game since ESPN began tracking pressure in 2009, trailing only former Denver Broncos quarterback Tim Tebow (63%) in 2011.

"In the playoffs, you have to win your one-on-ones," Ryans said. "That's what the game always comes down to. You have to man up and own your one-on-one. You have to have some pride in who you're blocking to get it done, to give the quarterback a chance to throw the football."
. . .
Still, whenever Kansas City blitzed, the Texans struggled to find answers. Stroud was blitzed on 10 of his 18 fourth-quarter dropbacks (56%), including a stretch of seven consecutive ones. Stroud was 3-of-8 for 41 yards with two sacks in the fourth quarter when blitzed.

The gaffes the Texans made were too much to overcome, as they became the first team to outgain their opponent by 100-plus yards (336-212) while not turning the ball over and lose a postseason game. Previous such teams were 49-0 in the playoffs, according to ESPN Research.
. . .

No one could have predicted Fairbairn would be a liability this season after only missing 3 FGs over the course of the prior two years. However assuming our OL was good to go despite not being able to run the ball last year and trading a 2nd round pick for a WR trending toward Jose Abreu were pretty bad maneuvers.

would point out that their coaching staff has decades worth of experience on offense and defense. Kliff Kingsbury's 1st year everywhere has been his best year.

Through their whole team you're seeing a ton of good vets, great interior D-line, and excellent play calling allowing their QB to make incredible plays. Good for them but, it's not a good comparison to the Texans.

Slowik is the difference. He's not experienced enough. If he leaves I hope the Texans go get a chip Kelly or someone like that. If he stays, I hope he grows into the role better.

There's been some other automatic kickers that haven't been able to kick in the cold / bad weather. Maybe that's who he is. Butker didn't seem to have the same issues with that side of the field.

The disappointing thing for this team is we have no cap room to make significant moves and no one we can really cut to make space. Paying Tunsil and Howard near $50M is just absurd. Thankfully we can eject Tunsil after next season.
