Stingley extended - 3 years $90M, $89M guaranteed.

I like this deal and I like the fact that Nick signs these 2 and 3 year deals, it is good for the player and the team.

Yes - only nitpick, and it doesn't really matter, but if you're going to guarantee $89M, why not guarantee all $90M? I'm sure there's a reason, but seems silly to leave out $1M so that it's not "fully guaranteed".

Good contract, and great job getting it done now, before the Jets extend Sauce Gardner

That is a lot of guaranteed money but he has earned it. Glad we locked him up.

Makes sense for both sides.

Texans can get ahead of the market rather than react, also gives them flexibility and an "out" if it doesn't work out.

Player gets guaranteed money and an opportunity to lock up another contract at top of market in their prime.

3 year window. We now have CJ, Anderson, and Stingley all up for new contracts in 3 years. Better make some hay between now and then.

One interesting thing that I'm sure Caserio is monitoring...

The NFL TV rights expire at the conclusion of the 2033 season, but there is an opt-out clause for the NFL which allows the league to opt-out after the 2028 season if they want. Netflix and Amazon desperately want more share of the NFL and I'm betting there'll be a large chunk of money thrown at the league close to this opt-out date.

I'm not sure what this does to our window, but potentially extends it if the salary cap scales with the revenue increases. Presumably there's not a large jump, but rather a gradual increase.

saw it posted that this extension doesn't negate his current contract. Just secures him getting those 3 extra years meaning we still have year 4, the 5th year option and then these 3 years. Not sure if true but, would be great.

So it looks like we've locked him up for 5 more years.

Booker sliding in mocks, would love to grab him at 25 even if the draft pundits are moving him into the 2nd round.

Although if he is slipping, and if other OL start to look like they'll slip then this rumor would be very nice

SI has us trading 25 to New England for 38 and 77.

Okudah went to the Vikings and we grabbed Darby to try him out as CB3 (probably a good bridge and draft someone on day 3 to groom).

If all the LT's (Campbell, Membou, Banks, Simmons) are gone by 25 then I wouldn't have an issue with that trade.

We're still clearing more cap space, glad we're keeping Autry with a better cap number. He did look great in the 2nd half of the year.

I disagree. 25 to 38 is a long way to trade down, with only a mid-third rounder in return. Even if all of the LT's are gone, you can grab an instant starter at G or WR or maybe even TE. Not interested.

Dropping 13 spots for a 3rd rounder seems pretty MEH especially when youre giving up the 1st Rd pick 5th year option as well
Im looking for Ray Finkle.... and a clean pair of shorts. Im just a very big Finkle fan. This is my Graceland, sir.

Too late, also the patriots can overpay everybody right now

Wow, we're doing some extreme cap wizardry. With us restructuring this out for 3 more years it sounds like DeMeco and Caley have Howard as one of our tackles long term.

Do we need more cap room in 2025? Doesn't seem like there is anyone else out there worth adding.

Cap flexibility has typically been Caserio's best tool for getting his veteran's on board in the offseason and during the season

I would assume it's this and likely working out the cap for the next few years/extensions

I wonder if we're looking at a trade or something? I don't think we're signing anyone in FA for big money at this point

Part of me has a feeling (or maybe wishful thinking) that we are trading for Trent Williams.

Doesn't converting salary to signing bonus leave you at the mercy of your players, who can hold out without risking almost any monetary penalty?

Beat me to the post. That's an interesting signing, I wonder how he was for the Vikings last year.

PFF graded him as slightly above average overall (better pass pro). Better than rolling with an unproven second year.

Agreed, also gives us a lot of flexibility back at 25. So if they go BPA and it's not a OT, then we still have Robinson, Howard, and Fisher to battling to start next year.

cheaper contract but doesn't seem like an upgrade at all. Guess attitude is everything

MaxPower

He's not as good but this is about resource allocation
IrishAg

Cheaper contract is a little misleading since Tunsil was making 21 million this year and Cam has 12 that could go up to 14.5, so that's almost half what Tunsil was making for not that big of a drop off.

Agreed, they've pretty much laid down the gauntlet that no one is untouchable, everyone is going to have to work hard, and the front office is going to do what it needs to move this team forward.
IrishAg
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Also saw a good point that with all of the extra draft picks we have next year, we now can retool if none of these moves are a home run this year.

I guess we're all good with moving up from 141 to 132 on penalties in exchange for a worse blocker.

Oh well, not in my control. We'll see what things look like next year. Hard to say we've upgraded things on the line so far.
