This is a good breakdown post Joe Mixon release cap situation for when FA starts. Probably a few more moves still to go to free up some more space.

Looking at that, some of my thoughts with the cap situation and listening in on more podcasts is that we get 2 new guards and a new center in FA next year.
  • Top name I've seen for center here has been Cade Mays from Panthers
  • Top Guard that seems to always be there with us is Wyatt Teller
  • Heard a bunch of other names at guard but nothing consistent.
At RT, coming out of the combine, I'm going to log my guess for the 1st round pick with Blake Miller. That would give us Trent Brown to start and Blake Miller to come on quickly (has over 50 starts in college).

This makes the most sense with the moves we made the last 2 years. Tackles demand the most money, and we were paying a guy top 3 money and another top 10 money with the line playing like ass.

We dumped Tunsil and reclaimed the top 3 money, then dumped Howard, who wanted to be paid like a tackle still, and we can actually reset the line. This puts the focus on Tackles in the draft, since you pay top money for average tackles in FA and the focus on the Guards in FA, where you can acquire a good one pretty easily if you're not overspending on tackles. The only wildcard is center which seems to go back and forth between draft and FA.

This seems to be an accurate summary of where we are with the o-line. They almost have to draft a right tackle early, but having Trent Brown means they don't have to force the draft pick to start right away. They have to get at least two offensive lineman through free agency, and Teller and Mays are the names you keep hearing consistently.

I'm going to be really disappointed if they don't make a splash on Monday and Tuesday with offensive linemen.

QB gets the big contract. But your biggest investment should be your OL. If Caserio is clearing cap space, that's the place to spend it.

Good resigning, reasonable contract amount.

Completely agree, and a great way to kick off free agency.

Tua released, $99MM dead cap hit. It'll be a post-June 1st designation so the cap hit in 2026 is $67.4MM and $31.8MM in 2027.

I wish Tua would retire for his own sake. Guy could get a cush job at Alabama tomorrow as a brand ambassador or something and stop destroying his future body/brain.

That's another good get at a good price

No complaints so far. Re-signing decent players to reasonable contracts.

Waiting to see how much KC spent for Walker. That Montgomery trade might look pretty smart.

Alec Pierce staying w Colts for $114M for 4 years. Bummer, was hoping he'd leave.

That's a lot for a good but not great player. I don't think Walker is a substantial upgrade from Montgomery.

They just traded Pittman Jr away to be able to afford Pierce.

Wow, went over 30 million a year for him, he's still repping those individual accolades for big money. But I still question how someone who is supposedly "that good" as an individual player has never anchored a good offensive line.

WOW, but I guess the Raiders have money to burn, and that's not a bad place to burn it with a rookie QB?
MelvinUdall

Yeah, while I would love to have him on the Texans, but that is way more than what I would want to pay for a center.

Would have loved Linderbaum, but not at that price. I would have been ok with Mays, but I don't think he is anything special. Looks like center will have to be addressed in the draft.

Go sign a legit LG.

Oh definitely....paying premium tackle prices for a center is the definition of begging someone to come to play for a suck ass team. But, for the raiders, why not...although it's gonna be tough if they finally get any tackles worth a **** and they have to negotiate a new deal with them.

That's a tough one on the value. But yeah, I guess bring back Andrews and try to find someone in the draft to upgrade the spot.

Still some guys to go, but not getting a quality C hurts. And we still have RT to fill. Barring a Trent Williams trade, doesn't seem like we're going to upgrade the line significantly, at least not short term.

I get not wanting to overpay but this is why drafting is so important. If you don't draft well, you basically have 2 choices: overpay or have a crap line.

My guess is they will sign a FA guard, retain the current center and draft a tackle and a guard/center, thus paving the way for a Ersery-[FA Guard]-Andrews-Ingram-Brown starting line, while letting the high round tackle push for the RT job (along with Fisher potentially) and the drafted interior guy push Andrews and the other FA at those spots.

I agree that that is most likely where we end up. I'm not optimistic that that line is good enough.

Huge splash signing here.

Actually pretty interesting that he was a QB converted to WR in college. Didn't start playing DE until his senior season

As pessimistic as I am in their ability to identify and target OL, I'm equally optimistic in their ability to identify and target DL.
