100% tired of it. It has made it absolutely impossible to get an interview anywhere.
Can you expand on why you think that is?
(1)Because a job goes up and 100s of applications flood the system in a matter of minutes. I saw this when I was on the other side hiring, and got swamped with garbage applications. While they may have fit the role through bypassing thr filter, when I dug a little, they were not even in the USA, or had not graduated yet, or weren't even in the same field.
(2) AI filters out applications in the ATS systems that aren't setup perfectly due to spam above, and I have yet to crack the code to get through myself. I know real humans aren't looking at my resume at all unless I have a reference on the inside.
I think the use of AI in recruiting is probably overestimated. For many if not most companies, it doesn't really make financial sense. To be clear, I don't consider filtering resumes for say a specific keyword or completeness of an application as AI. Same thing for running a script to auto apply for jobs, I don't feel like that qualifies as AI.
To your second point I think you are probably right in that a real human isn't looking at your resume, but maybe not because of AI. The demand for jobs is insane right now. Its not uncommon for me to get 1000 applicants in the span of two weeks for my open positions. I was on a call with LinkedIn last week and their own internal data was showing applications through the roof for the past two quarters. The labor market has really shifted towards employers as of late. If I get 500 applicants, 350 could easily do the job.
To that end, if I could offer any advice to a job seeker, spend the money on a resume coach. Specifically one that works in the field you are in. I'll spend around 20-30 seconds looking at a resume before passing or deciding if I want to learn more about a candidate. If the resume is poorly formatted, hard to read, messy, etc. I'm skipping it.
