uncover is that 109 days from the date you mailed the app, or 109 from the day you noticed it said 'processing' online?

also, does anybody have any experience of moving while they are still processing the app? I imagine that could be a major setback in the registration process if you move and give them a new address while they are trying to process your deal...

It took 109 days from the time they received the application via certified mail. I don't really know when they posted the "processing application" online because I didn't check it until it had been in their office for over 2 months. The law says they have 60 days from the time they receive a completed application (not from the time they start processing it), not that they follow the law though...

Found this on AR15.com and thought it would be worthwhile to share.

quote:
Any bill that hasn't cleared one chamber by Monday, May 11th is dead. We're about to lose both campus-carry bills (HB1893 & SB1164). If the Calendars Committee doesn't send HB1893 to the floor in the next day or two, it's dead. If Senator Duncan doesn't have his committee vote on SB1164 TODAY, it's dead.

If you care about campus security and the campus-carry bills, then stop what you are doing and get on the phone to everyone on the Calendars Committee and to Senator Duncan. Send faxes also, if you can. As always, be polite, but it wouldn't hurt to politely advise them that you are aware that they are using delay tactics to avoid even allowing a debate on this issue.

Two years of very hard work, as well as an interim study, is about to go down the political drain. I cannot overstate the importance of everyone getting involved now! Waiting until later or hoping others will make the calls and send faxes will guarantee the demise of both bills.

I'm almost certain that I'm going to be buying a Beretta 92FS in the next few months.

I've shot a few handguns in the last couple years and have completed a CHL course (paperwork was sent off in March) but this will be my first personal handgun.

Is this a reasonable concealed carry weapon or it is too big?

I haven't shot one but I've shot a Beretta 84 or 85 (don't remember) in .380 Auto and have read MANY good things about the 92FS (and my guy had nothing bad to say about them). Just seems like the common theme is they're a bit too "clunky" for concealed carry.

Thoughts?

tia

Stros, if you like Beretta, check out the PX4 Storm (model F)

functionally similar to the 92, readily availible in .40, and while not a compact, it's easier to conceal than the 92

I wanted a 96 (the .40 version of the 92) but due to the military contract, I bought a PX4 this weekend and am pretty pleased with it

Well I pretty well decided on the 92fs. I just wanted to get a little more info.

I've heard of cracked slides and problems the military has had with the handgun. Any substance to these?

I was told at a store today that the 92s made in the 80s are better than the guns made more recently. Guy didn't give a reason other than they are made more cheaply. I know about the plastic guide rod but is that really that negative?

I rented a beretta 96 at the range and wasn't that impressed. The accuracy was sub par IMO. I just racked that up to being a rental but the guy at the counter had made the comment that 92s had poor accuracy (moments after a different guy in the store had said the 92 was the best gun he'd ever owned).

I did like how the 92 shot and felt in my paws. Trigger felt REALLY light. Shot a S&W M&P for comparison sake and it was better accuracy wise (and lighter obviously) but I prefered the 92 in all other aspects.

Has anyone moved out of Texas and kept their Texas CHL?

At the end of this summer I’ll be moving (permanently) back to Kentucky. Kentucky and Texas both have reciprocity for CHL holders. I plan on getting a Kentucky CHL but I have to be a resident of the state for 6 months before I can apply for a Kentucky CHL license. During this 6 months I’d like to use my Texas CHL so that I can remain legal.

Looking on the Texas CHL website there’s a change of address form but there’s nothing that says there’s any restrictions on an out-of-state address. I’ll end up contacting both states to be sure but I wanted to see if anyone here has gone through this process.

I'm fairly certain that you have to be a legal resident of the state of Texas to hold a Texas CHL, but I could be wrong.

Texas does have a non resident license, but I don't know the process to switch it over to that.

Check the regulations on it too, some states reciprocate a resident Texas CHL, but do not reciprocate non resident CHL's. I know Colorado is one of the states that does that, but there may be more.

Will the shoot school do passport pictures and fingerprints?

When can I take the class?

I suspose when I get the shooting class finished I can mail the entire package to Austin and wait about 100 days?

1. Most places will do everything that you need for the license except for providing the gun and ammo..

2. I took the call before I paid the $140. So go take the class ASAP and get your paperwork into the state

3. After you have finished mail the complete package to Austin. It took them more than 130 days for mine.

spadilly,
I have an LCP and love it. hope you do too. If you are looking for ramge ammo then I cant help you, nobody in town has any of it. With that said Collectors Firearms at the corner of Fondren and Richmond usually has some high dollar self defense ammo that you can use for the time being.

How do you get a pin number if you processed everything through snail mail (check) instead of on-line (credit card)?
BradC34
How long do you want to ignore this user?
AG
They will mail you a letter with the pin number. After sending my application off in March, I didn't get the letter till mid May. So they started processing on May 9 after I mailed it around March 15. And I'm still going to be waiting till September for it to go through. Just glad I went ahead and got the handgun now...

OK. Since I sent mine off in mid-May...I'll look for my letter some time in August.

I spoke (in person) with the individual heading up the processing of apps yesterday. Renewals are taking 4 months minimum. New apps are going to be longer -- probably 5 months minimum and more likely 6. And that's only IF you have ALL your information correct and have no outstanding info requested.

what disqualifies you from getting a chl (criminal)?

i have a dwi pending... dont know if a conviction will take away a chl (havent got it yet) or make me ineligible?
Streetfighter 02
How long do you want to ignore this user?
AG
Conviction will prevent you from getting a chl for a number of years. I forget how long. Any disorderly conduct conviction will also prevent it, although DC is a class C misdemeanor.

do they get ticked off if you call to check the status? I sent mine in just under 4 months ago. I hope it comes in soon!

>>i have a dwi pending<<

Don't bother applying until you resolve it, and if its not resolved with a dismissal or acquittal, you'll be out for at least 5 years and maybe longer. If a CHL is something you plan to get, you need to get very careful legal advice before you plead to anything.

Anything recent is fairly cut and dry -- at least if the offense is in Texas. If it is something out of state, it is much trickier. Still even more difficult is an offense that happened years ago that has been reclassified by statute (say, from a felony to a misdemeanor). But you better have FULL documentation and prove that the offense actually would have fallen under the new statute. An example is a drug felony conviction from the '70s may now be a misdemeanor -- depending on the amount of the narcotic or illegal substance. If you can show actual records that the amount possessed or used was what is now classified under a misdemeanor. But virtually no one can actually show that.

Bottom line: if you want a CHL, STAY OUT OF TROUBLE. Period.

The previous page on this thread had some good discussion about ammo caliber for self defense. I'll share a funny comment from an instructor years ago, when our class was debating .45ACP vs 9mm - "Would you rather get hit by a Mac truck going 40mph or a Volkswagon going 80?".
