Anyone have an idea of when this will go to the Senate for a vote and what the likelihood of it passing there is?
Sen majority leader said his goal is to have the bill on Trump's desk by Memorial day.

Doubt that happens, but that's the goal anyway.

I believe this is the only mention of "silencer" in the bill that was passed but I'm not learned on finding the passed version. The below came from this bill.

I don't see any mention of the NFA at all, but again my search skills may be less than perfect. Not seeing where it was removed from NFA, only tax reduction.

As I understand it, weapons under section 5845(3) are those "any other weapon" greater than 12" but less than 18" in length, etc., etc., etc. Is that not SBRs? If so, looks like SBRs tax stamps just got a whole lot cheaper.

Bill tax reduction section:

SEC. 112030. REDUCTION OF EXCISE TAX ON FIREARMS SILENCERS.

(a) IN GENERAL.Section 5811(a) is amended to read as follows:

''(a) RATE.There shall be levied, collected, and paid on firearms transferred a tax at the rate of

''(1) $5 for each firearm transferred in the case of a weapon classified as any other weapon under section 5845(e),

''(2) $0 for each firearm transferred in the case of a silencer (as defined in section 5845(a)(7)), and

''(3) $200 for any other firearm transferred.''.

(b) EFFECTIVE DATE.The amendment made by this section shall apply to transfers after the date of the enactment of this Act.

On my drive to work this morning I heard on KTRH 740 AM radio that the HR 404 (hearing protection act) was taken out of the "Big Beautiful Bill" that passed and was sent to Senate.... so I thought it was dead for now????

I don't think all the amendments are on the site yet. The vote just happened 3-4 hours ago.

HPA is in. SHORT is not.

If somehow HPA language is not in there FPC and GOA will have a riot on their hands.

Now need to put pressure on the Senate…especially Cornyn. He'll be busy this weekend cooking brisket though, so you'll probably have to leave a message.

Suppressor thoughts…

Question, would this allow for individuals to manufacture their own?

I'm guessing demand would skyrocket short term. What would it do to prices long term?

I have heard some speculate firearms with integrated suppression could become a lot more common.

Thought I read that you would still need to file a 4473, so not sure on what that means for manufacturing your own.

If I had to guess, I bet supply dries up super quick should this be implemented. Don't think the manufacturers could initially keep up with increased demand in the short term. More suppliers enter market and increase competition/drive down prices long term.

I could be totally wrong though

Just like completing an 80% AR lower, I don't see why an individual couldn't DIY one.

I agree I see supply being really tight for a bit after this goes through
Texaspainter
How long do you want to ignore this user?

Yea I can see supply tightening initially as well as prices spiking short-term until manufacturers can ramp up production or more manufacturers enter the market.

Supply tightening was indeed the case when stamp times when down. That would occur again if this bill passes and everyone rushes out to grab one (or two or three). I agree, short term problem, though.

That language strikes silencers from the definition of firearms for the whole chapter, which includes the registration provision.
Quote:

5841 - Registration of firearms

(a)Central registryThe Secretary shall maintain a central registry of all firearms in the United States which are not in the possession or under the control of the United States. This registry shall be known as the National Firearms Registration and Transfer Record. The registry shall include
(1)
identification of the firearm;
(2)
date of registration; and
(3)
identification and address of person entitled to possession of the firearm.

Would the Secretary then, by the new definition of 'firearm', have to strike all silencers from the registry? That would seem to be substantially more difficult to undo.
schmellba99
How long do you want to ignore this user?
AG
No idea.

Seems that it would be simple to strike the entire registry though.

"from this date, any and all suppresors on the NFA registry are hereby stricken from the registry. The registry for suppressors no longer exists."

But I'm not in government, so not sure how the government hard way to do things would pan out.

So does anyone know how long this will take the Senate to get to the finish line?
President sign it?
When does it take effect?

In other words, when can i go buy a suppressor without all the $#%^&$ paperwork?

I think I heard on the radio this morning they are expecting it to be finalized by July 4th. The Senate may send it back to the House. They expect the some of the Senate conservatives to want to cut more spending.

And the RINOs will want to strike it from bill. Their existence is based on needing to fix stuff, not fixing it. If they ever fixed anything it would challenge their need.

I bet we'll see major firearm manufacturers quickly enter the market. No reason that Ruger (et al) couldn't produce them at $150-$200, each, if the volume is there…

If this passes where would be best to take some .22 to get the barrels threaded? I've got a Ruger 10/22 and a Ruger mark IV I'd like to shoot suppressed.

Maybe a 6.5 as well

If you cancel, you'll have to start over if this gets cut by the mature, genteel senate.

If you cancel, and this actually passes, everything is going to sell out incredibly quickly and it will be many months/years before things catch up.
