I'm going to snag one from Best buy, a couple questions

This one plugs right into an outlet, correct?
What happens if I just don't pay the $5 standby? I'm guessing I have to reactivate my account. Use case would be for the camper with the kids, but we usually only go a handful of times a year.
Mini should be fast enough for multiple devices streams and maybe zoom?

Thanks, how much is the activation fee for roam? I can't find anything reliable in terms of amount
If I remember right there is no activation fee. Buy the Starlink and you just activate it by turning on the service. I think you have 30 days to activate it.
I just got a standard kit for our lease. You will burn through data if you have 4K streaming and multiple devices. I am doing what others have suggested by getting unlimited data for the active months and then pausing it for the rest of the year. There were times last weekend where I did speed tests and got over 400 mbps. The setup is an absolute breeze as well.

Has anyone been able to use a referral code after purchasing the unit? I didn't realize I had to use it during the actual purchase.

I think you have to buy from the Starlink website for the code to work. I had the same issue.
How do they charge if you run over - force an upgrade to the next level plan for that time period? Doubt I'll ever get there since this is for Saturday game watching only but also plan on this being a backup for big weather events since I'm deep in the country .

He's getting a pass. That pic he's puffed up pretty good telling another buck not to come out. He's 4.5-5.5 at best. Great deer for us though
You do have to use the app to opt in for data overages at $1/gb. If you're likely to use a lot of data for the month, upgrade to the $165/month roam plan for the month to take advantage of the priority data.
Does anyone have recent experience with shipping times ordering from Starlink directly. Have an urgent need to send one with a field crew on a real long road trip. DFW retailers are strapped for supply.

We do a lot of laser scanning and photogrammetric surveys all over the country. Hotel wifi shuts down uploading those datasets real quick. We need to be able to push 20-50Gb without having to worry about it pretty regularly.

A few thoughts about the mini after catching up on it thread.
Streaming works great and wifi is solid.
Right now, these new residential lite plans aren't available on a mini.
You can run it in the car on the dash. You'll probably want a quality cigarette lighter adapter cable. Look for one with good reviews on Amazon.
If you plan on being in the country or using it for an emergency, you might want a good battery. It can run off of good usbc battery pack but it needs to be able to output enough power.
A silicone sleeve cover will help keep it from getting banged up.

Pretty impressed. Getting 25-50 Mbps on my cell yesterday while watching CFB one 1 TV and Peppa Pig for the 2 yr old on another lol
This is with the Mini just sitting on the ground with a very small obstruction. I definitely need to get a flagpole mount on the camper before next trip. I have a massive flagpole but a little concerned it might be too tall LOL. It gets up to 26 feet.

From someone who has Starlink out of necessity, I'm genuinely curious why folks who have access to fiber/cable internet want to move over to Starlink. Musk himself has stated it was never meant to be a replacement to cable/fiber internet.
