Well, the day is here. Headed to Az for my management Muley hunt. Have been prepping for this hunt for months, almost feels surreal that it's here. Heading to Tucson tonight, then will pick my cousin up from Phx in the morning and head to the ranch.

Yeah I got new limbs and got it back where it was speed wise. Got it re sighted at 20/30, should be on at distance since I got speed back where it was, but will confirm tmrw

Good luck with that. I humped an 80# pack 3 miles daily for 6 months prepping for a NWT Caribou hunt. Stepped out of floatplane at 7000' elevation and those hikes never mattered. I swore that if I do it again I'll just train in my recliner.

Yeah I've trained all sorts of ways for high altitude hunts and save actually running half marathons or more, nothing I have done in training has actually worked. When you come from 140' of elevation to 10k+ you're just going to get your ass kicked.

Doesn't help any that the guides are typically 10-15 years younger than my kids, making them 20-25ish and they have been there 3-4 months and acclimated.

That's the dang truth! I hunted with a 20 year old kid with the nickname "mountain goat" in 2022. It wasn't hard to figure out why they called him that about 5 mins into my first hunt.


Speaking of which - Tandy, is this a guided or self guided deal? I saw a little on the other thread in your prep but I can remember… also is this spot and stalk? Rut hunt? Share some more info if you don't mind (when you're not driving)

I've never hunted muleys - mine was on an elk hunt and we never went below like 9800' with most days 11,500 - 12,300. 8-10 miles a day of that sucks…

Once you get past Kerrville it goes fast. The worst part is 65 MPH west of Las Cruces.
