Reading this thread is like watching Aggie football. There is anticipation, excitement, disappointment, hope, more disappointment, followed my more hope.

Good luck finding your buck or getting on another one!

With all those missed shots, maybe we can call him Tandy Bond.

For The Win! But we expected no less from "Jawn Dough"
Bond makes 1/2 his attempts though…..

Awesome!

I'm impressed your toy lab was able to retrieve the ducks that are as big as her.

My buddy and I were packing up and I look over and it's the perfect pic. I had him call his dog so she would turn her head and I snapped it! Great day, done in 40 min.

So tandy's thread ends in disappointment for him, and then turns into a brag thread for others. Damn.

Unforced error on his part. If you weren't going to post a picture, just leave her out of the story…

Did not kill. Going home empty handed. No one's fault but mine. Had opportunities, just pissed down my leg when it mattered.

This will sting for a while.

nothing wrong with that, hunted all season when I was younger with a rifle before and just didnt see the deer I wanted to kill (or missed a few) went several years without taking a buck on our own 1200 acre property, it just happens. But we drank plenty of beer and wiskey while hunting... sometimes its not the hunt, its the good times and fun you had while doing it! better luck next time... and yeah I eventually shot some good bucks out there on our property

I don't mean to say this in an accusatory tone, so please don't take it that way, but how much shooting had you done at the ranges you were shooting at on this hunt?

A lot…. Most of the 3900 arrows were from 60-80. Not a ton at 100, but I wouldn't have ever had to take that shot if I had made a better first shot. Also wouldn't have taken a 100 yarder if it wasn't a deer that was already wounded. At that point you're just trying to get an arrow in them.

I don't know. More likely that it was me. Would have definitely liked more time with it after making changes to make sure I was still on all the way down the tape. Knowing what I know now I would have gotten new strings back in Aug/sept (they would have been broken in)…. I knew these strings were going to be getting up in arrow count and should have fixed preemptively instead of waiting. Couldn't have done anything abt the limbs.

Also wish I would have gotten either a different sight or a different pin housing…. Having 3 pins would have helped a lot, as I could have had 20 yds covered at a time without re rolling sight.

Dropping it off tomorrow to get restrung and the right color limbs

Just got back from vacation with limited internet access. See this thread with about 200 replies since I last checked it. Assumed there was a dead mule deer. A little disappointed, but it was fun reading this thread.

I think #3 is super important and most people don't train for that. At least I know I didn't when I went elk hunting.

Yep. That and standing motionless, half crouched, for minutes at a time were hard. Walking over all of the rocks was a PITA also, but i dont know how to train for that

Yoga. It comes down to core strength, and yoga is great for that.

If you want to find out how weak your core is, do yoga. It's absolutely eye opening… I don't do it regularly but aside from getting called gay by the bros, there really isn't a downside.

It's also important to remember than most people that have back problems are extremely weak in their cores and generally are carrying extra weight around their waist. The more you work on your core, the less likely you're going to have back problems

I have done all kinds of crazy work outs. Most of the time day 1 I feel as if nothing prepared me for the environment I was in. Noted It would have been worse had I not and second just shows how hard it is to substitute the real deal especially at altitude.

That said the hardest workouts, which also involve the mind (patience, grit) are going dead slow at the low ready weapon of choice.

Set up a 100-200M distance in the woods with some slope and hopefully deadfall. Than stalk it and take an hour+ to do it. Making it real as possible. Every small muscle required for balance will be screaming at you. Even better have somebody at the finish line back to you wearing Electronic Ear Pro and have them call you out.

The grit, no shortage of times spent exhaustive efforts to get into range only to snap a hidden stick below the moss at the very end. Just have to laugh it off and try again.

Probably, but you'll be better off going to classes to start with and finding an instructor to get you on the correct movements/poses. I'm not sure I'd tell them exactly what you're doing, but just tell them you're wanting to strengthen your core. They'll get you on the right path. Classes are usually cheap.

Aren't you in El Campo? There's definitely one there. Yoga with Abby.

But if not, find someone that does online classes. If you just stick with youtube videos, it will be a waste of time because you won't be working the right muscle groups.

This hunt was your Rocky I moment - you came close, but Apollo Creed/the hunt was just too tough for you this time. But some good advice from Mickey/the Outdoor Board, a couple of training montages, and you'll be ready next time to outbox a deer/shoot Carl Weathers.

I may have mixed something up there.
