What did y'all shoot with today? Cartridge/gun/bullet?

Funny story my son was at the range with me this weekend and I was jacking with my very finicky REM 760 in 30-06. He said 'let me shoot it'. I had a box of the Hornady custom light 125gr SST that I bought years and years ago. He shot a good enough group with it and smiled really big. I said 'yea man you can take it on Tuesday'. Shot the spike at 140 yards and the exit wound was vicious. Going to post the pictures on that thread from a few weeks ago about Hornady Custom Light. That SST likes those speeds.

We had a four point yearling, a 7 point 2.5 yo with a funny rack, and th spike he shot which was actually a pretty big spike but just a crap rack. All running together. We shoot and eat about five deer a year so they are not all going to be big mature bucks. Sometimes we just need the meat. So now we have a good buck, this spike, and two doe in the freezer. Going back in January for the last doe or two.

6.5 Bleedmoor, 143 grain ELD-X/Precision Hunters

Thats my next bullet to try in my 30-06. Got to find something that it likes.

Ruger American .308 with 150 grain Remington Core Lokts. In fact, this particular box of ammo was given to me by my dad who had it sitting around for years. The box itself is green and white (no yellow) with cartridge info stamped in red ink on the end flaps.

The deer was quartering toward me at about 80 yards, 5 yards off a brush line. Upon impact it hit the dirt, kicked, got up and ran into the brush. Fearing the worst i waited and hour, not seeing any blood on the ground through binocs from the blind. Turns out he was piled up a couple yards into the brush. No exit wound, no blood, but the internal damage in the boiler room was considerable.

Nice. That old Core Lokt stuff is legit.
