Went to Amchor Bar for the second time. Both visits were during Cowboys games on a Sunday afternoon. Compared to Pluckers and Wings n More, I prefer Anchor Bar.

I'm curious how Anchor Bar is doing. It was very empty both times I have visited. Today, I saw about 5-6 servers hanging out at the hostess stand with no tables. For most of our visit, we were the only table in the main dining room.

Service and food were good. But I'm worried about how slow they are.

Even though it's branded as a wing place, my granddaughter wanted to know how they made their pizza so delicious. It was definitely the best kids' pizza I've seen locally.

Unfortunately, I think Anchor Bar is not long for this area. That stretch of road just isn't what it used to be.

Which is a shame. The medians don't affect entering or exiting the parking lot at all. It has its own turn lane when turning left from Harvey Rd.
I wish them well.

A lot of places chasing the same dollars with similar menus.
Even pizza places have wings.

The location is good enough if the price value proposition is good.
If pretty much the same as the rest of all the places, then the pie is cut into too many pieces
and not enough biz to survive for very lomg.

If it was not for TexAgs I would not know it was there.
It is a nice place to go on a cool spring evening for wings and a walk in the park.

I don't think its a terrible location, I think its a matter of demographics. Specs, The Tap, Rudy's, Fazoli's and Sweet Eugenes are all there, along with a lot of things that appeal to students. It still remains a major arterial in the community. The same demos that never go there are very likely the same that never go to Northgate. Alternatively, the demos that go to Harvey and Ngate are not spending a ton of time in Tower Point or Austin's Colony area.

Wife and I have gone to Anchor Bar the last two Saturdays and we have enjoyed it.

They run some great beer specials during football season (follow their Facebook page).

They had $2 domestic pints and $4 domestic talls both times we were there. We sat at the bar and the service was great both times.

We split an app and a 10-piece wing and walked out full both times. Wings were meaty and we like their sauces, especially the buffalo lemon pepper.

I know on Thursday nights during the NFL season they do $1 traditional wings.

Hope they stick around.

I don't do wings but I used to really enjoy the Buffalo Sandwhich at WnM until they changed the bun. I did not realize how much the bun made that sandwich. I've tried it three times with the new bun and I'm out. Can't stand it.

So if anyone has a place that has a good Buffalo chicken sandwich I'm listening.

Walk-On's has a good buffalo chicken sandwich. It's huge - 2 full size chicken filets. They'll bring you a second bun if you want to make second sandwich.

I went to Plucker's last week. Two lunch wing menu items (I think it was 8 wings and a side for each) and 1 drink. It was around $43. It was not worth that. The wings were okay, but nothing special.

I went to Wings N More Saturday. They allow smoking on the patio. The one smoker made the whole patio stink so bad. We switched tables 3 times trying to get away from the stench. It was terrible. The food was consistent and worth the cost. The wings are so tiny.

I still say I make better wings at home. I still need to try Anchor Bar.

I know it's not local, but I love Wing Stop's garlic/parm wings and their ranch. And extra seasoning on the fries.

Those are just dry seasoned, right?

Yes sir, I prefer dry rub. They have a Cajun/Louisiana one too that's good.

Ask for extra heavy mojito lime. You won't be disappointed.

I ordered Anchor Bar wings for lunch DoorDash the other day and even after the driver took the longest route possible, the wings were the best I've had in a while. I also got the potato wedges with the cajun seasoning and those were superb.

Looking forward to eating there as it was a little messy at my desk.

Had the pizza at Anchor Bar during the Aggie game last Saturday. While their wings are very good, the pizza was fantastic. Highly recommend.

Tried Anchor Bar last night. Liked the wings and loaded tater tots were pretty good as well. Friend and I were saying if they tweaked it a bit more and added more bacon it would be ordered every time we come in future.

It was good enough to make it in our rotation for game watching places to eat but I worry that it won't make it with Pluckers opening at the same time. It was deserted last night at 7:15pm when we arrived.

i was there last night trying it out too.

their tenders where good. Beer was cold.

I'm not sure it would knock out WnM though.

The family next to us had pizza and it looked damn good though. Will be going back to try that.

We went last Saturday during the 2nd half of the Aggie game. It was very busy. When the game ended, I thought that a lot of folks would leave. But many stayed for the tu game.

Went there today at 2:45 for the first time ever and it was completely dead. Cool spot and would seemingly be great for sports watching. Bartender said business has been hit or miss and that they've still never even had an official grand opening yet (not sure if that's already been covered here).

Their loaded tots were the bomb and enough to feed a small army. Medium regular wings were very good, much more meat on the bone than Wings 'N More, but I still love the taste of Wings 'N More over anything.

However, the Lemon Pepper wings were inedible. I've never tasted something with so much lemon and so much pepper.

Will definitely go back there.

With 3 kids 10 and under, Pluckers takes the cake. We eat on the back patio where the kids can run around once they are done with their food (which is fast because they eat like birds).

The kids love their mac and cheese, however, they also love WNM's mac and cheese, as well. I like their sauce options better than any of the other places. We will still frequent WNM, though.

Have yet to try Anchor Bar, but we'll give it a shot.

I've only been to Pluckers twice. The main negative was the hard sell for their loyalty program. Both the server and a manager did their best to convince us to join. It's a recurring cost and the benefits didn't seem that good. I did not appreciate having multiple sales pitches while trying to enjoy my meal. This was shortly after they opened, so maybe it's better now?

Before visiting Anchor Bar, I went online, signed up for their program (for free) and was immediately given a $10 reward. Definitely a more positive experience.

I'm surprised nobody has mentioned bb.q Chicken on University yet. They're a little different than your usual wing fare, but they're big and tasty.

Finally visited Anchor Bar last night (yes, name checks out).

The queso was bland. The wing flavors we tried were okay but nothing special. The French fries with the dry rub were good. The service was great.

Overall we would go back if someone wanted to go. But wings n more is so much better even though their wings are half the size.
