I heard from someone at the meeting that Austin needs somewhere to dump their trash.....and they want to reopen this landfill...out on Kathy Fleming Rd. owned by the county. Austin?
I know of nobody "deciding to confiscate" a person's land but I'm not a landowner in Brazos or Grimes County & didn't sleep at a Holiday Inn last night.woodiewood said:I don't like the government deciding to confiscate a person's land, like the high speed rail, but we sure need to built more reservoirs so that we can capture rainwater. Well, we're an hour into the meeting & no report? What the hell?
Someone mentioned the water, heard that a few years ago but it was related to doing something w/the Navasota River as I recall. There is a BMA(at least the 1 that I know) who owns property in that area. The talk was a lake/reservoir west of 6, SW of Millican/Wellborn/CS to help w/the growth in Brazos County.
But what do I know?
Looking at the Navasota River and it's flood plain, I would think it would be easier to develop a reservoir on the east side of Hwy 6 just before it crosses six almost into the city of Navasota. Whereever it goes it would affect people and that should be kept to a minimum if at all possible.
To me when the state in involved in forcing private landowners to sell their land to another private person or they will use eminent domain to do so, it's state-sponsored confiscation of private land.12thMan9 said:I know of nobody "deciding to confiscate" a person's land but I'm not a landowner in Brazos or Grimes County & didn't sleep at a Holiday Inn last night.woodiewood said:I don't like the government deciding to confiscate a person's land, like the high speed rail, but we sure need to built more reservoirs so that we can capture rainwater. What I do know is that water rights is an issue that flies under the radar for many. T Boone Pickens started many years ago trying to secure water rights in West Texas, in fact at 1 point being the largest holder I believe.
Again, I have no dog in the fight, other than looking to move that way in a few years & curious about where would be a good place to be.

So you hear it's a good meeting and still have to be negative. Some people just won't ever be happy

It's amazing how many people on here are perfect
So what keeps the county from selling this property to someone/entity that wants to put a landfill there?regularjoe said:

Here's the KBTX article. If Brazos County doesn't have a designated landfill spot, then a private individual could get a permit for a landfill. The County doesn't intend to use this spot as a landfill (even though it was used as one in the past), but they want to prevent one from coming in.
