Well, we're an hour into the meeting & no report? What the hell?

Someone mentioned the water, heard that a few years ago but it was related to doing something w/the Navasota River as I recall. There is a BMA(at least the 1 that I know) who owns property in that area. The talk was a lake/reservoir west of 6, SW of Millican/Wellborn/CS to help w/the growth in Brazos County.

But what do I know?
I don't like the government deciding to confiscate a person's land, like the high speed rail, but we sure need to built more reservoirs so that we can capture rainwater. Texas only has one natural lake.

Looking at the Navasota River and it's flood plain, I would think it would be easier to develop a reservoir on the east side of Hwy 6 just before it crosses six almost into the city of Navasota. Whereever it goes it would affect people and that should be kept to a minimum if at all possible.
I know of nobody "deciding to confiscate" a person's land but I'm not a landowner in Brazos or Grimes County & didn't sleep at a Holiday Inn last night.

What I do know is that water rights is an issue that flies under the radar for many. T Boone Pickens started many years ago trying to secure water rights in West Texas, in fact at 1 point being the largest holder I believe.

Again, I have no dog in the fight, other than looking to move that way in a few years & curious about where would be a good place to be.

To me when the state in involved in forcing private landowners to sell their land to another private person or they will use eminent domain to do so, it's state-sponsored confiscation of private land.

I have no issue with instances where the state has to obtain land for the good of the people and the state owns and manages the land and the development, such as widening a roadway or even building a new roadway, but I don't agree with the transfer of private land to be given to a private entity.

Knock down as many trees as you can out there and build with no design or plan.

So you hear it's a good meeting and still have to be negative. Some people just won't ever be happy

No Sir.
Just a realist. With a history of dealing with Mr. Peters.

So, riddle me this?
Why on earth was it important to keep this from getting out before the meeting? Did it really help keep down "rumors and misinformation"?

I doubt it. It was either:
1-a play for attention
2-terrible decision-making
3-for political gain
4-bad leadership
5-failure to trust your constituency
6-some or all of the above.

Did KBTX even cover it? Would love to hear the actual minutes of the meeting... or is there even a written record?

Absolutely not perfect here but you can take my word to the bank.

So they held a meeting and we still have no idea what it was about?

P. S. The original thread title was awesome

Here's the KBTX article. If Brazos County doesn't have a designated landfill spot, then a private individual could get a permit for a landfill. The County doesn't intend to use this spot as a landfill (even though it was used as one in the past), but they want to prevent one from coming in.

So does this prevent Bryan or College Station from building a "landfill" if they so choose to at any other point in the county anytime in the future? And I wonder what is defined as a landfill.

I thought it might something to do with a landfill, might as well assume that is where one will be in the future. Might be 20 years from now, but like any property owner, they can say anything they want and do anything they want. It's not like they have zoning......oh nevermind.

So what keeps the county from selling this property to someone/entity that wants to put a landfill there?

This is the classic "Look this way while I do this" maneuver. My bet is that there already is a plan to develop the old landfill.

I don't live in BCS, but I do live near the Waco landfill, according to Google Maps, I'm 1.12 miles northeast of the landfill. There are many homes a heck of a lot nicer than mine that are closer to the landfill than my house. If I didn't know it was there, I wouldn't know it's there.

There is no smell and the city of Waco pays Goodwill to pick up trash that escapes the trucks. I don't know if I'll be sad when the landfill closes in the next couple of years, but if I do have a truckload of brush to dispose of, it's not going to the the quick trip to the dump anymore.

Anyone know the story of what appears to be an old racetrack, directly to the west of the property in question? Looks like it was there in 1995 but gone by 2004. Can still see the oval on Google Earth.

There were a couple of groups who trained race horses off of 2154 back then.
