If I'm not imagining, Amazon is using a new drone. Seems significantly bigger than the prior one, and radius is expanded and well west of the Bypass. Watched one head towards Harvey and Texas and disappeared,,,, I'm sure it's not half the size of a medical helicopter but it looked so in a clear blue sky ….

I'm in Castlegate and get regular emails from Amazon urging me to order drone delivery. One of these days I'm going to order something just to see it in action over my house.

I don't think you have to sign up for it anymore. I didn't. I've done a search, while logged on my Amazon Prime account, for small household items or snacks. If weather conditions are good and drone delivery is available for a specific item, it will show up during your search. I checked earlier this afternoon for bar soap and it showed Dove soap available for free 1 hour drone delivery.

It's the Mark 32 drone and it's 40% quieter than the first model they had been using. I've had deliveries at the house to see/hear it. Amazon has worked hard to mitigate noise issues for the folks nearby the droneport.

Right now I'm ready for any delivery system to replace the USPS! For several Saturdays and Mondays the USPS decides to just forget to deliver mail!?

What happened to "Neither rain, heat nor hail shall keep the USPS from delivering the mail!"

Was 4 or 5 miles up until this newest drone expansion. We were just outside the range before. But now, my dog is losing his mind when one delivers a package to the backyard behind our side of the fence.

I can't find much information on it outside of the link I posted and the About page linked from it.

The FAA approved delivery area is larger than they are delivering to as they carefully expand. The Mk30 drone has double the range as the original model and the FAA now allows them to lose "line of sight" of the aircraft whereas previously they had to have eyes on it at all times.

City of Bryan recently approved deliveries there and they can traverse highway 6 now too- so it's just a matter of time until perhaps the majority of BCS will be eligible for deliveries.

The new drone is a game changer no doubt. It was engineered from scratch by Amazon. Interesting information in this link:

I think it is funny that people complain about the noise from these drones. Feels like they complain just because they are new/different. There are other things that create as much, if not more noise (train, etc).

I have these fly over my house almost daily. I don't think they are a bother at all and as someone else said it is a better alternative than the USPS. We live in the 21st century. These are the types of things we should expect. Each year we get closer to living like the Jetsons.

Many agree with you, but the folks immediately around it do not. As constituents they made their position clear and I am duty bound to listen. Since intervening and adding the discussion item to the agenda before FAA approval was given I've stayed in touch with the neighborhood and with Amazon.

I feel like everyone is in a much better place and I'm grateful for that.

If you know me, you know I'm a tech head, but I have a gut feeling this coolness + convenience will be overshadowed in the vey near future when the low flying sky traffic becomes crowded and we miss the days of clear skies, whether enjoying a sunset or getting some peace in your backyard, traffic will soon be in 3-dimensions.

Count me out.

My wife caught one on video a few weeks ago delivering to our house in Pebble Creek. She just had to approve the drop spot on our driveway no target or anything needed. It dropped it exactly on the mark. I'm guessing it was an older drone because it sounded like a swarm of bees.

I just ordered delivery to our home in Bryan, we shall see what my cameras pick up. All I had to do was approve the drop point, and it gave me several options.
