When did this become a thing?
Is it not a health code violation anymore?

Twice recently I've seen people with dogs in restaurants. Not service dogs, the dogs had no vest on.

At Wings N More last week for lunch and a college aged couple had a dog sitting in the booth with them.
Yesterday at Mod pizza a college aged girl walks in with a dog on a leash and orders a pizza.

I'm not sure when we made the decision as a society to allow dogs everywhere but it's outta control.
Dogs do not belong in restaurants or grocery stores.

Service dogs aren't required to wear vests.

I have no problem with service dogs in public businesses. Vest or no vest. There is no required signage or registration for service dogs.

It's usually obvious when it's not a service dog. A barking dog sitting in an HEB cart is probably not a service dog.

My problem is that store management is either poorly trained on how to question owners about their dog or just don't care when ill-behaved dogs are brought into their place of business.

All of those that abuse the system makes it really tough for those with legitimate, properly trained service dogs.

Because businesses are too scared to offend anyone these days

Saw a woman in HEB a while back with a lap dog in a stroller that kept leaning out sniffing/trying to.lick produce. Was clearly NOT a service animal. Multiple employees walked by and said nothing. I left and went elsewhere to shop (and yes, I left my basket with food in it sitting there).

1) People don't dog parent any better then kid parent so if they leave the dog at home it'll destroy everything.

2) If you objectify the wrong dog, you'll find yourself dragged nationally and going viral because you didn't recognize the barking and squealing was the tell for someone who has some obscure, underdiagnosed ailment which requires a service dog. This person will then use their ailment to monetize a TikTok account to create an income stream for themselves belittling your business for years to come.

3) No one understands that Emotional Support Animals only have to do with housing requirements and was a poor government intrusion into landlord requirements. Businesses and people alike.

I notice now that HEB has signs up at the entrance on Tx Ave that only service dogs are allowed in and none can be in the cart. Now will it be enforced?

A few weeks ago I saw two college age gals both with small dogs in the the cart. I mentioned to the store manager how unsanitary that is.

I just don't understand why people want to bother taking their pets to the store?

I am thinking about buying another Llama and taking it.

Two quick things-

#1 I am a dog lover, have had a dog my entire life.

#2 I loathe people bringing their dogs to public businesses, especially restaurants.

We live in a world where everyone believes they have a right to do whatever they want, even inconveniencing others, or making others feel queasy while they eat, for their own selfish desires to have their pet with them. It has been my overwhelming experience, that, people who have codependent relationships with their pets usually aren't that great with human relationships and thus care more about their pets than the other humans their pets may impact. Pets can't talk back or tell you how they feel, they are safer relationships than actual people.

Its weird to me that people would bring a dog inside a restaurant. When I have my dog with me, I look for establishments with outdoor seating because my thought has always been dogs stay outside.

It all depends on the owner & dog. I have no issue sitting on a restaurant patio with other patron's well-behaved dogs. But I don't want to be in my own backyard if my neighbor's yappy little tornados are outside.

Worst thing about dog people is they expect for you to love their dog as much as they do.

Big dogs on restaurant patios are cool.

Little dogs anywhere are obnoxious.

What's the limit on service animals? Can I have a service bull? Monkey? Iguana?

I believe only dogs and miniature horses are recognized as service animals under titles II and III of the ADA.

I have two dogs and I love them very much. Would never take them to a grocery store or inside of a restaurant. I'll do a patio, but only if I know that it's a restaurant that's cool with it.

And just for clarification, anything smaller than a Great Pyrenees or a Saint Bernard is annoying.

Oh man, if you want to see the "Fur Baby Karen Mommies" out in full force, you need to check out Nextdoor when someone talks about wanting to give a way a pet or its fireworks time of year, or someone mentions something like this thread on that place.

I've seen people at a restaurant let their dog drink from their water glass. I'm not talking about a to go cup, but the glass that could be on your table next visit. I love dogs, but animals in food service environments is gross!

Hey what about, unless its a needed service dog, leaving the dog home?

I suspect that about 99.99% of the people who have emotional support dogs, could go to the grocery store or a restaurant without their dog and make it back home.

Report dogs in restaurants and grocery stores to the County Health Department.

I don't mind a dog on the patio or outside venue. If you can put up with pigeon droppings then I think a dog should not be offensive.

If you need emotional support, you should get a certified, trained service dog.
If your spirit animal is a dog, then you should check into a mental hospital.

With curbside service available, there is no reason to take a dog into a grocery store.

Unpopular opinion, I'm sure: I find dogs to be a lot less unsanitary and less annoying than babies/children. I have never encountered an annoying loud, screaming (barking) dog in a restaurant or grocery store, yet I have never not encountered an annoyingly loud, screaming kid in a restaurant or grocery store. And why do you think they're screaming? Probably because they're taking a **** right there in that H-E-B basket where you put your groceries, or right there at the restaurant dinner table. Never seen a dog do that! #teamdoggo

True, but you probably shouldn't leave your annoyingly loud, screaming child alone at home while you go to the store.

You don't get out much...
Walk softly and carry a big stick! Make sure the big stick makes big boom noises and flashy bright lights.

My dog is very well trained, but I'd never consider taking him to HEB or a restaurant. Besides, he gets a treat whenever I leave so he rather have that instead of constantly looking at me for approval!
