Sportsradio 1310 the Ticket Announces Resignation of Hardline’s Greg Williams

Dallas, Texas – Sportsradio 1310 the Ticket (KTCK) announced today that Greg Williams, co-host of afternoon drive show The Hardline, has resigned. Mike Rhyner will continue to host the Hardline, heard weekdays from 3pm-7pm, along with sidekick Corby Davidson.

Williams has co-hosted The Hardline with Rhyner since the station first hit the airwaves in January 1994. Originally in the 11am-2pm timeslot, the Hardline moved to afternoon drive in 1996. The show has won multiple awards, including Sports Personalities of the Year by ESPN, Personalities of the Year by the Dallas Chapter of American Women in Radio and TV, Dallas Observer Sports Talk Show of the Year, and Best Radio Program by the Ft Worth Weekly.

Sportsradio 1310 the Ticket, a live and local sports-talk station located in Dallas, Texas, guarantees big name guests and breaking sports news first. The Official Home of the Dallas Cowboys, the Ticket can be found on the dial at 1310am and 104.1fm. The Ticket received the 2007 NAB Marconi Award for Best Sports Station in the country.

So they bought him out to bring closure and move on without a mess.

so what was the 5:15 announcement from the Hardline? What did Mike say about it?

or did they just read the press release?

meant to ask about the denise milano as a question? So she will be there, that should be the headline.

No ill will toward Greggo, but to be honest, I haven't missed him at all. I'll get slaughtered for saying this, but imho Corby and Danny provide more entertainment. Im not going anywhere either because they could roll just about anything in there and it would still be better than those jock straps over at 103.3.

My feelings exactly.

What have they been talking about since he read the statement. I had a phone call at work and couldn't listen til just now again. Damn work and phone calls.

After reading the statement they just had a general pep talk roundtable about how everything will be super duper going forward. Nothing bad said about Greggo. They will take their time finding a replacement host. Lots of apologizing and sympathizing with the listener - danny compared the ordeal to the listeners being kids watching their parents divorce.

Hmm, as a child of divorced parents, I think that's a bit extreme. But yeah, it has sucked. I liked Greggo, just like I think everyone else did in general. However, I agree with everyone else in that he needed to go, and I totally believe Mike about the fourth or fifth chance thing and I don't believe Greg for a minute (at least supposed Greg through a TexAgs poster) that he's the victim.

I still hope it's Kevin Scott that eventually gets the replacement gig, but for now I'm perfectly fine with Mike and Corby and Danny and Grubes (No. 1).

sounds like im in the minority, but i loved Greggo to his very last day on the air. i did not feel it was time for him to go. as a day 1 P1, he was part of what made the Ticket what it was. I dont listen to the Ticket for sports expertise. I listen to the Ticket to be entertained, and he did exactly that. He entertained me. I feel bad for him as a human being as addiction I wouldnt wish on my worst enemy, much less someone who i've spent the last 13 years getting to know. i wish him nothing but the best. The Ticket will never be the same.
Hong Kong Paul

That is all very true as well.

I can't believe that I just read 25 pages of P1 posts. I worked in Dallas in 1999 and 2000 and am now a avid podcasting and internet listening P1 in Houston.

Sucks for Greggo and the HL, but oh well. The little Ticket will continue to thrive.

I wish Greggo the best of luck going forward. But 3:00 PM is still going to find me by the channel.

It'll be interesting to see if they try and replace Greggo with someone like him or try something else.

Greggo was a walking bit and drop machine which can't easily be replaced because it's all personality without trying.

The worst mistake they can make is hiring someone that "tries" to be like Greggo. I've never been a big fan of Greggo but everything he created did definitely entertain.

As a child of divorce as well, I laughed when Danny said that but then realized it is a little true. I have felt a little pain, a little anxiety and a lot of remorse in these past few months that he's been gone. I always miss the regular shows over the holidays when they put the scabs in there. Having Greggo permanently gone has felt very much like a scabbed Hardline for a while now. Don't get me wrong, I still enjoy it a great deal and will continue to listen. It's just missing a little something. Greggo did not bring hardcore sports or anything like that, but the little things like his wild bartending stories, the tub club, his propensity for finding money and his completely bizarre, out-of-nowhere declarations and statements were such a cherry on top of the sundae for me.

I really will miss him. I will love the new show, I'm sure of it, but I will always miss the old days.

Kevin Scott will not get the job. That became clear a month or more ago, if not today.

Corby made public that he'd rather be free to do more funny bits than sports talk.

I was thinking about personalities that they might be able to run in there without disrupting chemistry too much, or having an awkward transition, considering this new guy will be Show Host. Is it possible that they go find an old employee who is still in the area like a Mark Followill? Is Ritchie Whitt sportsy? Please spare us Larry Brown and Razor. I enjoy them in limited doses, but not at length. Anyway, I would not be surprised to see them hire someone that we're all familiar with, and they've even worked with in some capacity.

As a P1 since Day1, it was a little sentimental hearing that segment today. I was actually part (a very small part) of the Ticket Stick-it walk-out during the Rangers game and the Hardline was front and center with that. Have been to countless remotes, GNOs and Ticketstocks since and gotten to know Greggo to a certain degree.

When they talked about it before drydock, Rhyner sounded pretty pissed off.

He probably still is, but today, he sounded a little sentimental himself. Reading the announcement and then having Rhyner refer to him as "Greggo" (rather than He who shall not be named) and what he meant to the show and the station seemed to bring a little closure in a positive way, even if everybody knew what the final chapter was.

Now, this will probably get ugly in the future, especially if Greggo gets a new gig in the market.

You know...I really liked Greggo! The Hardline hasn't been the same since. It's lost it's edge. The tone of the show no longer fits it's name. Greggo may not have been the best "professional braodcaster" but he was very entertaining to listen too. I understand why he was let go, or resigned, and rightfully so. He broke the rules more than once, so it had to be done. But dang it...The Hardline is NOT back. The name needs to change.
