Papas isn't bad rather eat that then wait in line for hours like a dumbass for bbq

I'm by no means a bbq expert but the three times I've had Pappas, the meat was terrible.
IMO it is definitely the loser of that restaurant group. If you are ever stuck there for some work or other required get together, order the burger which is really good or if you insist on getting BBQ get it on the baked potato so you can bury it in the rest of those toppings

The salad with the 3 meats is pretty good. Get the dressing to the side cause Esmarelda likes to drown the lettuce with it.

Speaking of, I hear that Hungry Farmer has taken over the old Thomas BBQ spot on 610 & Ella. Never had Hungry Farmer, but I imagine it has to be an improvement.
The place is near my house. I've often wondered about it.

I've wondered about that one and several other spots that aren't super well reviewed or talked about. Anyone ever been to the any of the following?

- Brisket & Rice (529 & Eldridge)
- Gabby's (Heights)
- Pizzitola's
- J-BAR-M (Eado)
- Aunt Pookie's (BW8 near 10)
- Demeris (pretty sure they're more known for catering?)

haven't been to Pizzatola's in years.

Back in the days when Houston BBQ options consisted of Goode Co, Otto's, Luling City, and Luther's; Pizzatola's was the place for pork ribs. No idea anymore.

It was a very popular BBQ place int eh late 80's and 90's for the business lunch crowd. Always jammed and Jerry Pizzatola was an Aggie football player.
What do you boys want for breakfast BBQ ?.....OK Chili.

Gabby's sucks, but the old timers in the GOOF love it.

Last time I went to Pizzitola's was under the old ownership/management. I thought it was pretty bad. Supposedly, they are better now, but I'm not gonna try.

Demeris is terrible. They mainly cater to the lunch crowd. Parking lot is crowded at lunch but barely nothing at dinner

I like JBarM - solid food, live music, nice bar - makes for a nice evening with the wife

Pizzatola's - used to eat there quite a bit, always about the ribs - its been awhile since my last visit, seems like the owner had maybe played for Bellard or Wilson?

Actually had lunch at Pizzatola's a few months ago. The brisket was decent but the ribs were really damn good. A definite improvement over the last time there probably 10-12 years ago.

Demeris was basically Luby's the last time I had it. Probably not even that good.

Three-way race to the bottom between Demeris, Dickey's, and Spring Creek IMHO.

Found a TM article on the history and changes at Pizzitola's, though the article is from 2020. Been longer than that since I've been there, so I'm overdue.

Thanks for posting that.

It's been a decade since I've been there mainly because I remember it as decent but not spectacular. Too many other options for great BBQ.

Sounds like some interesting changes and worth trying again.

Also, drove by The Brisket House today so this thread really hit close to home. Somehow survived smelling like smoke when I got home even though I was in an open air ride. I consider myself very lucky.

Do you really not go to top places in town to eat because it's owned/ran/started by someone that graduated from Texas?

Might be reading that wrong. If you are saying that in reference to the NIL post, then carry on.

If the first point is true, just wow.

Spring Creek is a horrible excuse for bbq. Can't understand how they have a chain a restaurants that manage to stay open.

We're on a website where people wonder how Bucc-ee's survives even though they found this great quirky mom & pop store that serves the best smoked pork sandwiches on the way to the Devil's Backbone. Mysteries abound.

I did that one time when I was in town for a convention and remembered all the SA kids at A&M talking about it. These were the same people who were excited about Rudy's coming to CS, and when I was not overly impressed by Rudy's, they said Bill Williams was the real place locals went to. Not sure if I got "clowned," as the kids say.

Yes it was in reference to the NIL. I love Pinkerton's bbq. Their candy ribs are my favorite in town. And I love going on Thursdays for $2 Lone Star tall boys. Their bartender is really cool

The original Rudys, in Leon Springs, was fantastic back in the day.

Its a DFW based place. That town will turn anything into a chain of mediocre spots.

I go for the ribs as well. Bartender is always having a good time. We are on the same page for sure. Probably bumped elbows with you at the bar before.

Pinkertons bbq is fantastic but as mentioned before, mike the bar tender is hilarious and the brown liquor selection is the reason me and my friends go every week. That tiny bar gets wild Thursday through Sunday.
