Pinkertons bbq is fantastic but as mentioned before, mike the bar tender is hilarious and the brown liquor selection is the reason me and my friends go every week. That tiny bar gets wild Thursday through Sunday.

Ya it's my end all be all for BBQ. Certainly are other great spots but between the food. The bar and the atmosphere it's just freakin awesome. Glazed ribs just can't be beat.

hit up Pizzitola's for dinner Thursday night - ribs and smoked cabbage great; brisket much better. Than i remembered and their "frito pie" was a good if messy appetizer

I did that one time when I was in town for a convention and remembered all the SA kids at A&M talking about it. These were the same people who were excited about Rudy's coming to CS, and when I was not overly impressed by Rudy's, they said Bill Williams was the real place locals went to. Not sure if I got "clowned," as the kids say.

The original Rudys, in Leon Springs, was fantastic back in the day.

As was the original Coopers in Llano as well (15-20 years ago). Although I do wonder sometimes if it was just great compared to the other options available at the time. I wonder to myself how it matchup against all the top quality spots that are around nowadays.

I went to that Cooper's quite a bit, and it was pretty damn good, even by today's standards.

Went to Feges long point yesterday. Man, I still don't understand the hype.

It's a good bbq joint. Brisket is fine, pork ribs were awful, some unique sides that are good (sweet and spicy sprouts) but it's no where near top tier status for the Houston BbQ scene that I feel it gets reviewed/rated by most.

It's also always super cold in there and sometimes my plate is on the lukewarm/colder side which just doesn't work for bbq.

I don't hate the place and it is very good BBQ by old or even normal standards. I guess it's more of "much more superior top tier options out there" as opposed to its lack of anything.

Rant over. Just 4th time giving them an open slate to impress and just falls in the middle of good Houston BBQ

This seems to be the general consensus. Average to above average meat with great sides.

I will say they've added a smash burger that is top notch. For me, Pipers Burgers was the best in town but it shut down due to the Shepherd construction. Not sure if they ever opened up the other location they were planning.

With Pipers closed I'd put Feges at the top of the smash burgers in Houston.

Sucks to hear about Pipers. They were up there along with Post on N Main for top smash burger imo. Gonna have to try that Feges burger now

Agree on Pipers. Hoping they can get back open soon once the construction is done.

Not sure if they ship out of state but Snow's BBQ ships.

I've done it a couple of times and it was pretty good. Obviously not as good as getting it fresh off the pit but still had good flavor and not totally dry and overcooked after re-heating.

If you have a sous vide setup I've found that best for reheating BBQ.

Hit up Pizzitola's for lunch today. I had my standard base line of brisket and sausage with a couple of sides.

I had Roegel's yesterday and I don't think they compare.

It was good BBQ as a whole but I'd put it in the second tier as I don't think it compares to Roegel's, Truth, Pit Room, and Pinkerton's. Those are my best in Houston since I'm mostly ITL.

It really reminded me of Luling City Market more than anything as there seemed to be a ton of regulars that frequent the place. Thats not a bad thing.

I do planning on going back and trying some of the other items like the pit smoked burger, brisket enchiladas, BBQ fajitas, and BBQ biscuit.

I also need to give the ribs a go as that seems like their speciality for BBQ. I saw two tables order them as appetizers right when they sat down.

I have to baseline every new place with brisket and sausage though. It's been a decade since I've been so wanted to start fresh.

That whole area right there is unique with old school restaurants like Cadillac Bar, Jax, and Pizzitola's. I know it's a Saltgrass now but even that place still feels like Hoffbrau other than the name.

Still feels like when I moved to Houston in 98.

Indeed.

Speaking of that place, I play softball on Tuesday nights with some folks I didn't know before. Somehow our favorite bartender from there got brought up and a guy on the team is good friends with him.

We've been talking about all getting together but our favorite bartender lives in Katy, the other guy lives in The Woodlands, and I'm in the Heights.

Might as well live in San Diego, Boston, and Miami…

Finally in the right part of town at the right time to pick up the brisket enchiladas at Pizzitola's today.

Think they only have them on Friday and Saturday. Got a nice surprise when I walked in and saw the A&M/Mizzo score. Got home and was not disappointed in the enchiladas. Wasn't sure what to expect, but they were basically enchiladas stuffed with chopped beef. I put a little more sauce on them, pretty good.

Oh, I wasn't sure if you were replying to the more recent comment about Pizzatola's.

Generally, no, it's not a problem. But it used to be pretty distinct at Brisket House. Others have said they fixed the ventilation. But back in the day, I could go in there at lunch and smell like barbecued chicken for the rest of the day.
